SUMMER JOB ANNOUNCEMENT


Research Assistant
The National Association of Peer College Advisors (NAPCA) is a southern California nonprofit organization
based out of the Rossier School of Education and part of the USC Trojan family. Our mission is to increase the
number of students, particularly low income, first generation, foster youth, and underrepresented students, who
aspire to prepare for, enroll, and attain a postsecondary education. The aim of NAPCA is to break barriers to
college access through empowering students to take ownership of their future aspirations. NAPCA is growing
steadily to become a multifaceted educational support system that prepares hard working students for admission
to four year colleges and universities nationwide.

NAPCA is seeking 2 Research Assistant interns for this summer. The internship program will entail
working on multiple aspects of our ongoing evaluation of NAPCA’s summer and high school programs,
including data collection, input, maintenance of research data, and administrative support. Interns must be
available from June 2011-August 2011 and hours are flexible.

Qualifications:

This position requires a strong interest in education and the social sciences and basic research experience. Our
desired candidate will be comfortable reviewing academic articles, and possess effective interpersonal, oral and
written communication skills. Regular access to a computer and internet is needed as the majority of work will
be done from home.

Job Responsibilities:  
• Responsible for maintaining and imputing data for assigned projects.
• Assist in a variety of research and analysis tasks by collecting, compiling, and checking data.
• Conduct literature reviews on post-secondary education, college access programs, and other related
topics.
• Transcribe audio of research interviews.
• Attend periodic meetings with USC Rossier faculty supervisors.
• The ideal applicant has great writing skills as well as solid technological abilities (e.g., Microsoft Office,
and other research search tools).
 

Educational Requirements: Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Preference will be given to
applicants who are currently enrolled in a graduate level degree program and have research experience.
