Arthritis and Osteoporosis Prevention

What is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis is mainly a degeneration of the cartilage in the joints.
But it can also involve synovial lining (the lining of the joint) and the
underlying bone.

How is the joint actually damaged?

Cartilage is primarily made of collagen fibers, glycoproteins, and
proteoglycans. The structural integrity of human cartilage is
continually going through a cycle of building up and breaking down. In
other words, our body needs to be building cartilage at the same rate
as it’s wearing down in order to maintain healthy joints. Osteoarthritis
is an inflammatory disease.

Causes of Inflammation in our joints

Cytokines are some of the leading causes of joint inflammation.
Proteases, enzymes that cause the breakdown of proteins also have
been shown to create inflammation in the joint.
Phagocytes (Neutrophils) are attracted to the inflamed joint causing
further inflammation.

Another arthritis: Rheumatoid

Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto immune disease. This occurs when the
immune system begins attacking the cartilage and the synovial lining
of the joint. As a result, inflammation process begins significant
destruction of healthy tissue. It creates excessive free radicals and
attracts cytokines.

Traditional Treatment
The basic traditional treatment of both arthritis is the use of
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS) and aspirin. While they
reduce inflammation in the joint, they are also responsible for frequent
side effects of stomach ulcers and upper-gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.

Role of Supplements
Main Supplements:
• Glucosamine HCL with Boswellia: Glucosamine rebuilds the
cartilage, Boswellia is a natural pain killer (without any side
effects). Dosage: 2-0-2
• Omega-3: Reduces the inflammation. Dosage 1-0-0
Supporting Supplements:
• Bio-C: Is an Anti-oxidant which reduces the free radical damage
caused by inflammation. Dosage: 2-0-2
• Parselinium E: Is an Anti-oxidant which reduces the free radical
damage caused by inflammation. Dosage: 2-0-2

What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a silent killer disease which goes undetected in
patients till it reaches an advanced stage. Bone is not just a collection
of calcium crystals , rather it is an active living tissue which is
constantly remodeling itself through osteoblastic (bone forming) and
osteoclastic (bone resorbing) activity. Like any living tissue, bone has
diverse nutritional needs (and not just calcium!). In order to prevent
the risk of fractures of the spine, hip and wrist, we must pay attention
to several important factors:
• Preserving adequate bone mass
• Preventing the loss of the protein matrix of the bone
• Making sure bone has all the important nutrients to repair and
replace damaged areas of bone
