SECTION 1:
Information system is an organized combination of people, hardware, software,
communication networks and data resources that collects information and
disseminate information in an organization.

1. End-user ( managerial end-user) anyone who uses an information sytem
or the information it produces.
2. Knowledge worker – professional people who uses computer to perform
their jobs effectively and efficiently.

4. Global society – global economy – rely on interconnected global networks

IS plays a vital role ( Importance )

IS ( information systems ) and IT ( information technology ) as a vital


component (the central nervous systemthat help enterprise to meet its
business goals in today’s business environment.

1. The Internetworked enterprise refers to internet and its internet based


technologies have become the primary IT infrastructure that supports
business operation. Eg, electronic commerce, enterprise collaboration
system like groupware tools
2. Globalization /global enterprise – business is expanding to reach global
market for their product and services.
3. BPR ( Business process reengineering ) automate task from manual to
computerized process.
4. Competitive advantage – using IT for globalization and business process
reengineering results in the devt. of IT that help give a company a
competitive advantage in the marketplace.

SECTION II:

SYSTEM concepts – group of interrelated components working together


towards a common goal by accepting inputs and producing outputs in an
organized transformation process.
Dynamic system has 3 basic interacting Components or functions:
1. Input – capturing and assembling elements that enter the system to be
processed.
2. Processing – transformation processes that convert input into output
3. Output – transferring elements that have been produced by a
transformation process to their destination.

Cybernetic system ( self-regulating & self controlling system) a system with


feedback and control component.
4. feedback.- data about the performance of a system
5. control – monitoring & evaluating feedback if system has achieve its goals

IS resources and products:


1. hardware – includes machine and media used in information processing
2. software – computerized instructions and instruction for people
( procedures)
3. people – information systems specialist and users
4. data resources – alphanumeric, text , image, video, audio and other form
of data.
