The word µcommitment¶ holds great significance in almost every sphere of
human life. So how could corporate structure remain devoid of it? If the employees of a particular organization are considered committed, it shows highly of the culture fostered by the company. Committed employees are not exactly a rare breed but yes, they are definitively exclusive. We are living in a time where stories of employees¶ lay-off have become a common affair. On the other hand, employees have turned restless and aggressive as well in hopping from one company to another. Both the situations are far from comforting.
Employee commitment is a sign of employee loyalty. Actually, commitment is
not a new concept. In earlier eras, employees were committed and loyal to their masters and tales of generations of employee serving the same masters are very much common. Now it is more of a mutual need. If employers want their employees to be more committed to the work and organizations because of higher performance and lower turnover benefits, employee also expect the organizations to be more committed to them in terms of understanding their needs and providing right work environment.
The bottom line is whether it¶s a new start-up or a multinational giant,
commitment matters. The factor of commitment is very much subject to levels of employee motivation. If the staffs are motivated enough, feel c satisfied and display enhanced productivity, there is every reason to believe c that they are relatively more committed to the goals and objectives of the organization. Committed employees are precious assets for any organizations. They are always likely to stay longer with their organizations and for them; money is not all that matters.

Some of the most common factors that determine commitment levels of the employees are, job satisfaction, recognition, appreciation from the seniors, work culture, remuneration, job challenges, responsibilities and healthy competition etc. Committed employees have displayed better performance in terms of serving customers, willingness to accept new problems, high quality work performance and desire to stay for long periods with the company. c
The most striking aspect of committed employees is values held by them.
They have high personal values which, not surprisingly, are quite similar to those of the company. They possess a sense of attachment with the company and care about the future and fortune of the organization. Committed workers feel proud to be a part of the company and always have nice words to say about the company. Interestingly, many big organizations realizing the importance of commitment factor, have started to design and develop employee commitment questionnaire. These questions included in the surveys help companies in determining what are the factors that make employee committed and how best to provide them with right set of stimulus.
It is also important for organizations to distinguish between commitment and
turnover. The thing to remember here is that commitment is not merely a personality trait. It¶s much more than that. It is primarily a quality. It is job of the management to explain meaning and importance of commitment to the employees and should always lead by example. c
