Hybrid Simulation: Theory, Implementation and Applications deals with a rapidly evolving technology combining computer simulation (typically of a finite element model) and physical laboratory testing of two complementary substructures. It is a cost-effective
alternative to physical testing of an entire system, and allows for the improved understanding of complex coupled systems. Traditionally, numerical simulation and physical tests have been uncoupled and performed separately. In the hybrid simulation paradigm, the coupled nature of the simulation allows for improved understanding, and more efficient design since the factor of safety does not have to be arbitrarily inflated to account for uncertainties due to uncoupling. It is a multidisciplinary technology which relies heavily on computational mechanics/dynamics, control theory, computer science, and numerical methods and finds applications in aerospace, civil, and mechanical/automotive engineering. It is a truly 21st century technology which may revolutionize simulation.
the depth and breadth of knowledge that are needed to create usable and valid simulation models. To assist in illustrating the simulation modeling life cycle, actual case studies in modeling furniture rough mills are used. Keywords: System simulation, animation, modeling...
