So what is it with the MIVEC
Lancer, you may wonder. To start
with, this car has the MIVEC (Mit-
subishi Innovative Valve Timing
Electronic Control system) en-
don’t need to do any major mod-
ification to accommodate this
engine to the chassis – just bolt
on and drive.
Originally, the engine is manu-
factured with an integrated speed
limiter, configured to choke the
car once it reaches 180kmph. Far-
han has stayed away from tam-
pering with the original settings
of the ECU, hence the car tops
out once it reaches speed limiter
specification.

awesome power of the MIVEC.

transplant and now, Farhan ex-
plains, “Brilliant!” The car accel-
erates real quick and it’s always
exciting to sit behind the wheel.
Believe me, it is exhilarating if
you are to go around for a ride in
this car. You will understand the
dynamics of a real G-force.
High-tech engine requires
high-grade fuel. As per specifica-
tion, the engine should run on
100 octane fuel, but due to non-
availability of the 100 octane, Far-
han fires up the engine with the
97 Octane fuel.
Farhan’s advice to all auto en-
thusiasts is to keep the modifica-
tion simple, take it one step at a
time in a phase-by-phase manner
and, most importantly, pre-de-
termine your budget before you
step into any upgrade project for
your car. ■

New Zealand’s national airline is planning to give the
bald facts on plans to speed up check-in queues for
passengers – literally. Air New Zealand said on Tuesday
it is looking for 50 people willing to be a ‘cranial
billboard’ with a message temporarily tattooed on
their shaved heads for two weeks advertising new
speedy check-in services. The airline said it will pay NZ$
1000 (US$ 666) per head. “How better to tell our
customers that Air New Zealand is going to do
something about (long check-in queues) ... than
through messaging they can read while they’re
standing in a queue themselves?” the airline’s
marketing manager Steve Bayliss said in a statement.

suing the hotel, developers El-Ad Properties and
brokers Stribling & Associates for breach of contract,

financier Andrei Vavilov, is asking for the return of
his US $10.7 million deposit and for an additional
US$ 30 million in damages.

letters in Germany
A Scottish postman working in Germany hoarded at
least 20,000 letters at home because he felt his work
was too taxing, police said on Tuesday. The postman in
Frankfurt was caught when a neighbour saw him

deliver mail addressed to himself either,” local police
said in a statement. Investigating officers found rubbish
bags and boxes full of letters and other post stashed
around the man’s flat and cellar. He told police he had
got behind with deliveries because of his night school

The final tests involved pumping a single
bunch of energy particles from the project’s
accelerator into the 27-km (17-mile) beam
pipe of the collider and steering them counter-
clockwise around it for about 3 km (2 miles).
The collider aims to simulate conditions
milliseconds after the ‘Big Bang’ which created
the universe around 13.7 billion years ago.
The collisions, in which both particle clus-
ters will be travelling at the speed of light, will
be monitored on computers at CERN and lab-
oratories around the world by scientists look-
ing for, among other things, a particle that
made life possible.
The elusive particle, which has been dubbed
the "Higgs Boson" after Scottish physicist Pe-
ter Higgs who first postulated nearly 50 years
ago that it must exist, is thought to be the mys-
terious factor that holds matter together.

Recreating a ‘Big Bang,’ which most scien-
tists believe is the only explanation of an ex-
panding universe, ought to show how stars and
planets came together out of the primeval
chaos that followed, the CERN team believes.

Was playing a lead guitarist as easy as it

looked on screen?
No at all… We all polished our skills for a
couple of months by learning the instruments
and nuances. The good thing was that I was
working alongside a creative bunch of people,
which was satisfying. I come from a family
where everyone loves music. I have grown up
listening to Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, Abba and
The Doors. So I always wanted to do a movie on
a rock band and I was ready to do anything for
that.

Do you consider this a chance of a

lifetime?
I really didn’t think this chance would come
so easily to me. It was actually Farhan, who has
been my long-time friend, to whom I owe it. He
came to me and asked me if I would do this film
and after reading the script I was blown away. It
was awesome and everything sounded so great.

Your onscreen chemistry with Farhan

looks great…
That’s a reflection of our friendship. We are
great friends and have known each other for
years now. I worked with him in Don but that’s
not the only thing common between us. Farhan
is one of the most talented people around today.
He has shown his skills as a director and now as
an actor and singer. But he is a brilliant writer,
too.

directors who do so. I am an actor who likes to
get underneath the skin of the character and
Rituparno is one who always wants his actors to

What do you play?
I play a director and it was another role which
I would say was completely different for me.

The Last Lear is a big film and you are

I am really hopeful and excited about The Last
Lear, too. I have worked with Mr. Bachchan ear-
lier in Ek Ajnabee and Aankhen but this time I
must say he was different. I have no doubts that
this is Mr. Bachchan’s best performance till
date. He was outstanding.
And what do you have to say about
Rituparno Ghosh?
He was the person who made look everything
so easy. This is an English film and it was the
first time for me as well as Preity (Zinta) and Mr.
Bachchan but Rituparno was always ready to

BIG FM’s Sangeetha, who is among the city’s top RJs,
knows her lingo, armed with a degree in Tamil
Literature. She talks to Ergo about her stint as an
RJ and how it all began…

How did RJing happen?
I was doing my under gradua-
tion from Bharathiyar Universi-
ty when I applied for a campus
interview where FM Rainbow
picked me up. I worked there as
a radio jockey for the next three
years and simultaneously com-
pleted my post graduation.
During my stint with FM Rain-
bow I was hosting a show called
Thirai Maalai, where I inter-
viewed celebrities from the film
industry, and also conducted a
breakfast show. Later, when I
joined BIG FM, I started hosting
Suprabatham, a devotional
show which goes on air from 5
a.m. to 7 a.m. Now I am doing
Chinna Chinna Aasai, which
goes on air from 11 a.m. to 3
p.m.
How did you develop your
RJing skills?
During my school days I used
to participate in a lot of orator-
ical competitions and this has
helped me tackle callers. I never
dreamt of becoming an RJ, but
with my teacher’s support and
encouragement I gained confi-
dence, and now that I am into
this field I am really very pas-
sionate about my job. I owe that
to her.
How do you work on your
scripts?
I usually prepare my scripts a
day ahead, soon after my show
ends. I get my information from
newspapers and the Internet. I
usually go for topics which will
attract people’s attention and
make it easier for the callers to
relate to. Sometimes, I get in-
puts for topics by observing
things on my way to office. For
special shows on days like
Teachers’ Day or Diwali, I pre-
pare myself two days in advance
and start collecting informa-
tion. I usually fix appointments
with the people concerned and
prepare myself for the show.
How do you handle
criticism?
I am very open to criticism
and have learnt a lot from my
critics. It actually helps me in
improving my speaking skills
and whenever I meet people I
ask for feedback. My biggest
critic is my mom. She points out
all my mistakes. A lot of credit
should go to her. My family is
happy with what I am doing
and they are very supportive.
Five years from now…
There are a lot of FM stations
coming up, with many talented
RJs like Suchitra and Dheena. I
want to top the list and create
an identity for myself as a good
RJ.
Tips for the upcoming RJs…
To become a good RJ you
must always have a presence of
mind. Even if one makes a mis-
take, he or she must know how
to handle the situation in a way
that people don’t realise it. If
any youngster has that capabil-
ity and a good voice, he can be-
come a successful radio jockey.

the Louis Malle Film Festival.
The director’s first film,
Elevator to the Gallows was
screened, for two main
