Inside Out & Upside Down

All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Pablo Picasso Today begins our annual Vacation Bible School (VBS), whose theme this year is Inside Out & Upside Down on Main Street. As always it is a great opportunity to teach the truth not only among ourselves who are part of this congregation, but to those from the community who may attend. Rarely does such a chance come along, when the seeds of the gospel can be planted in young minds that, Lord willing, may yet grow to become strong pillars of His church. The challenge with any teaching opportunity, of course, is planting an idea deeply and firmly enough that it takes root and bears fruit throughout the learners life (Matt. 13:3-9; Mark 4:3-9; Luke 8:5-8). For some who attend our VBS, this may be about the only encounter with God and His Word that they get. Others may have a cursory contact with religion that means little to them (or to their parents for that matter). Still others are those of us who attend regularly but who can, as always, have room for more admonition and more education in the Fathers ways. No matter what the situation, VBS presents a great teaching tool. The goal is not just to present scriptural teachings to impressionable minds, but to provide them the beginning awareness that (we pray) will endure and grow throughout their lives, and ripple outward to other lives as well, so that the Fathers kingdom spreads. No matter your age, youre invited to be here this week, today through Wednesday, for VBS. There will be classes for all ages (including adults). Todays sessions will occur at our usual Lords Day service times (though tonights session may last until around 7:00); Monday through Wednesday the sessions begin at 6:00 pm and should conclude around 8:00. We thank all those who have worked hard to make these four days possible. Be sure to help in your own way to make VBS a success!

Friendship The friendship of Jesus is ennobling. Consciously or unconsciously, we seek to live on the level with our best friends. Because Jesus is pure and good, we seek to be pure and good. Friendship begets friendship. If Jesus is our friend, we should become His friends. He once said, If you are my friends, you will keep my words. What a friend we have in Jesus! Author unknown
