5509058 VHA IMP Antenna Line Testing Antenna Test Work Instruction
Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide Subcontractors with a guideline and specifications for Project Galileo antenna system testing requirements. It is expected that technical staff have an understanding of RF technologies and are competent to use RF TDR equipment and analyse and record results. This instruction describes how to make Return Loss & Distance to Fault measurements on an existing Vodafone antenna system, using an approved Anritsu Site Master. Antenna system tests are performed as part of the antenna system works before the cable connectors are sealed or connected in their final configuration. This instruction covers the following systems: WCDMA850, WCDMA 900, WCDMA 2100 and GSM 900/1800.
After the test results have been saved in the Site Master, it is possible to obtain hard copies by importing the measurements to a PC. Necessary software and serial cable are enclosed with the Site Master. It is expected that results are available in both an open format ie PDF of the graphical trace, as well as the original sweep file recorded on the night in the form of the Anritsu DAT file. Sweep Test Bands All systems are to be swept across the relevant bands of the Antenna system being tested as follows; Eg. 850/900 MHz band 1800/2100 MHz bands 820 970MHz 1710 2180MHz

Annual Calibration - All test equipment should be calibrated as per the manufactures specification, and details provided in the relevant acceptance documentation. Calibration records must be kept and produced as required. On Site Calibration Technicians must calibrate the test equipment in relation to the pass band of the antenna system to be tested. This includes Start/Stop Frequencies, Velocity factor and attenuation characteristics of the feeder cable in that band. A sweep resolution of 517 data points is required.
3.1
To achieve accurate test results and to compensate for Test Port Extension Cables, the Site Master must be calibrated. The frequency band must be set before the calibration can be performed. A broader range allows a higher resolution of the measured result. Note: The Site Master must be calibrated each time the frequency band is changed. The Site Master must also be calibrated if one of the following symbols is shown in the display: CAL OFF or C. 3.1.1 1. 2. Setting the Display Resolution Press SWEEP button Press RESOLUTION soft key

The following Antenna Sweep system testing is to be completed for the PRE and POST test: System RL (Return Loss)
RL (Return Loss)- The purpose of the Return Loss test is to verify the antenna system all the way up to the antenna when it is completely installed. The test verifies that the Return Loss is not too high and that the signal is not reflected back into the RBS. The limit is -15 db for a complete antenna system The final RL (Return Loss) test is of the complete system with all components fully terminated in the system as per the RF Design. All tests are to be saved and labelled with site name or code, sector number, test type and feeder designation as per Section 5.2
4.1
The intention of the Huawei swap project is to ensure that the same or better performance is recorded post upgrade on all frequencies (including 850, 900, 1800 & 2100). The total system must achieve a return loss of less than -15dB and no more than the increase specified in table 1 below from the pre-sweep recorded RL value. PreSweepRL 21 20 19 18 17 16 15 14 13 PostSweepRL 18 17.5 17 16.5 16 15 15 14 13
Table 1 Where the pre-sweep return loss is less than -15dB, this would suggest an existing issue on site. Works are to continue and any site with a return loss less than -15dB pre-sweep is to be escalated to Huawei Project Manager and the issue reports to VHA Fault Management Center a TT raised and recorded. Sweep files in PDF and DAT formats to be provided so that a rectification team can be engaged to return to site to fix the issue post project work. RL to be measured from the output of the BTS including all existing passive devices, tails and antennas It is expected that technicians on site are suitably trained on the use of the sweeping equipment. All RL sweeps should be reviewed on site and any issues fixed during the installation phase.

Post sweeps To be performed once all tails/feeder & antenna work is completed. To follow the same frequency bands & markers as above in pre-sweeps. Any failures i.e. a loss of greater then specified in table 1 post installation will need to be investigated immediately and rectified where possible. It should be noted that both feeder paths will be monitored and diversity issue will be classified as a fail as well. Example below shows this. Example: On completing the sweeps if the main and diverse on the pre sweep were: Both at -21dB the post sweep on the main is -20dB and diverse is -18dB This would indicate a difference of 2dB post sweep between main and diverse. Even though this is below the limit of -15dB this will need to be investigated as to the cause of this and rectified where possible. The minimum expected investigation on the night of the swap would be: (i) check all connectors and terminations repair and replace where necessary (ii) check tails (iii) check combiners (iv) calibration of sweeping tool Contractors will be expected to carry with them spare materials and equipment so that issues are rectified on the night and revisits or rollbacks avoided at all costs. Materials and equipment contractors would be expected to carry would include, but are not limited to: - Electrical tape / Almagamating Tape / Heat Shrink - Various spare connectors o DIN & N-Type, Male & Female, for cable o DIN & N-Type, Male & Female, for 7/8 cable o DIN & N-Type, Male & Female, for 1 1/4 cable - Tools for terminating tails and feeders - Spare pre-made and known good tails in a range of lengths and connectors - Spare unterminated cable suggest 24m (enough for 6x 3m tails)
Sweeps to be completed Return Loss sweeps to be taken on ALL BTS, Main and Diverse on all sectors pre cutover. Return Loss sweeps to be taken on ALL BTS, Main and Diverse on all sectors post cutover. All sweep tests must pass specification for acceptance.
