ACADEMIC POLICY

Programme Code: 212 Programme Name: M.Tech (CSE)

1. Introduction

M. Tech computer science and engineering is a 2 years program for students who have mathematics/computer background in their related undergraduate engineering study programme designed to provide a sound theoretical and rich practical exposure to the students who want to break the barriers of conventional educational reach for that extra depth in terms of knowledge in the field of Computer Sciences. This programme is for engineering graduates who want to progress rapidly into a rewarding career. The orientation is towards a broad discipline that encompasses the theoretical and empirical study of computer systems, their construction, and computing applications Profile Highlights: To prepare students to have extensive knowledge of Core Subjects and to take up some kind of research work and write theses. Concept of Design Problems and Analytical Assignments. To impart conceptual, industry-based engineering education, this revolves around a scientific approach to study. Teaching facilitated by Real time exposure in technical areas including Networking, Neural Networks, DNA computing, Artificial Intelligence and other new techniques etc. Practical Oriented approach in delivery of courses In-depth study of different courses through specializations Syllabi based on latest trends of industry. Strong focus on presentation skills Highly qualified, experienced and innovative faculty. Dedicated departmental student computer labs with continuously updated software tools.

2. Academic Objectives

To impart in-depth knowledge of core subjects and different study areas in the field of Computer Science. To enable engineers to pursue continuing education in and participate in various research and development programmes. To develop professional industrial oriented skills that will prepare the students for employment in the relevant computer Science field. To make future proof engineers with both desire and ability to keep learning throughout life. To produce the professionals for the employability in industry, academics as well as the research based organizations.

To suffice to the need to design, create, operate and maintain specialized computer systems i.e. AI and Networking To make the students conversant in a multi platform and multi tool environment. To impart and develop the ability to recognize and appreciate the importance of ethical standards in the analytical and technical work. To create the professionals for the research areas in Computers with visionary approaches. To produce the research professionals for the employability in academics as well as the research based organizations .

3. The Challenges

There is a dearth of such programmes that impart advanced skills of a specialized nature. There is a shortage of faculty to conduct such programmes as the professionals are readily absorbed by the industry. Students of this programme are made well verse with the concept of design problems and emphasis is laid on research and practical orientation. Requirement of advance software tools. Stress and efforts are to be made for the Research Paper Writing and presenting the same in the conferences so that the students may not face problems. To maintain the knowledge of the student updated, some research based projects need to be present with the department so that the student may always be updated with the present and past technology both.

4. Strategies to Achieve the Academic Objectives and overcome the challenges:

Objectives & Challenges

Strategies to achieve the objectives and overcome the challenges

Courses that support/highlight this strategy CSE501, CSE523, CSE537

Curriculum structure

The course should focus on the needs of depth knowledge needed for a Post Graduation program and should also focus on the Industrial-approach. The curriculum will be designed keeping in view the depth and core requirements of the programme.

Application Core

Students will demonstrate understanding of the core areas of algorithms, theory of computation, operating systems, linguistics of

CSE509

programming languages, and architecture. Design tools like MATLAB can be used to implement Neural Networks & Fuzzy Logic techniques in Artificial Intelligence.

Professional Orientation

For those who aim for an industrial career, the program would give skills in areas like project leadership and insight in industrial problems. Those who aim for careers in teaching should get a deep insight in their teaching topics and pedagogical proficiency. For those who aim for an academic research career, finally, the focus should be on excellence in research.
