Prerequisites
This document assumes that you have the following items: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition CD Microsoft SQL Server 2000 license information
This procedure also assumes that you have: Prepared a Hedberg Installation Checklist Prepared your Hedberg PC for the installation. Please check your system for the correct Service Pack, Internet Explorer version, and disk partition sizes. See your roadmap and checklist for the appropriate steps. If you are installing Hedberg on a system that already has SQL Server 2000 installed, please note the following requirements: Hedberg must use the default instance of SQL Server. Sorting, character set Note: Hedberg recommends that other applications that run SQL Server 2000 be run on a separate server from the Hedberg server. Although, multiple SQL Server 2000 applications may work on the same server, you may be prohibited from upgrading to a new version of SQL Server (SQL Server.NET?) because all applications on the server are not supported under the new version of SQL Server.

Insert the SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition CD into the CD drive on your Hedberg SQL Server. If autoplay is turned on, the screen to the right will appear. Note: If autoplay is not turned on you can start the upgrade via windows explorer by running: <CD drive>:\autorun.exe Select SQL Server 2000 Components

In the Computer Name screen select the Local Computer radio button and then [Next] to continue.

In the Installation Select screen select the Create a new instance of SQL Server, or install Client Tools radio button and then [Next] to continue.

In the User Information screen enter the appropriate Name and Company. Select [Next] to continue.

In the Software License Agreement screen read the license agreement and select [Yes] to continue.

In the CD-Key screen enter the 25-digit CD-key included with you SQL 2000 CD. Select [Next] to continue.

In the Installation Definition screen select the Server and Client Tools radio button and then [Next] to continue.
10. In the Instance Name select [Next] to continue. Note: HDS is not supporting named instances of SQL 2000. HDS uses the default instance (same as server name) of SQL 2000. SQL 2000 does support multiple instances of SQL 2000 on the same server with each instance requiring its own license.
11. In the Setup Type screen select the Typical radio button. By default SQL 2000 will be installed on the operating system drive under Program Files. Select [Next] to continue.
12. If you are installing your Hedberg Server in a domain environment: In the Services Accounts screen enter the appropriate NT account used to start the SQL Server 2000 services. This information is found on your checklist. The screen at the right shows an example of using the account SQLAdmin. Use your domain name in the domain field. Select [Next] to continue.
If you are installing a single user or workgroup Hedberg Server, please do the following: In the Services Accounts screen, select Use the Local System account. Select [Next] to continue.
13. In the Authentication Mode screen select the Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication) radio button. Enter a password for sa from your checklist. Select [Next] to continue. Note: HDS uses both NT and SQL authentication which is why you need to select Mixed Mode
15. In the Chose Licensing Mode screen select the correct license mode (per seat or per processor) based on the type of license you purchased. The screen at the right illustrates a per seat mode of 15. Select [Continue] to start installation.
16. A series of installation screens will appear as SQL Server 2000 is installed. Note: You may encounter some screens that ask you to overwrite read-only files. If this occurs answer yes to continue upgrade.
17. The Setup Complete screen will appear at the conclusion of the SQL Server 2000 installation. Select the Yes, I want to restart my computer now radio button and then select [Finish] to complete the SQL 2000 installation. Note: Reboot the system even if the SQL Server 2000 install doesnt prompt you to reboot.
You have successfully installed SQL Server 2000. Please proceed with the next step in your installation roadmap.
