Chapter 1 Introduction
Display
The display for the 460 Series indicators has two sections: a large numeric area on the left, and a smaller two-line-by-10-character dot matrix are on the right side. The six large digits display numeric data. The dot matrix area has several functions. The first two characters of the upper line show the weighing units of the displayed data, and the last three characters indicate a CENTER ZERO ( -->O<-- ) condition, when applicable. The lower line specifies the type of data, such as Gross, Net, Tare, etc. The dot matrix area also displays messages during operation and setup.
Press to reset the current weight reading to zero. Press to select the available displayed units, such as lb, kg, oz, g, etc. Press to select the programmed operating mode such as NET Weight, TARE Weight, GROSS Weight, Time-Date, etc. Press to send data to a printer, computer or other device. Press to establish a Tare Weight. This key also doubles as an [ENTER] key. These keys are used when making numeric and character entries.
[ZERO] [UNITS]
Press to reset the current weight reading to zero. Press to select the available displayed units, such as lb, kg, oz, g, etc. This key doubles as the UP arrow key when scrolling through the ASCII character set. Press to select the programmed operating mode such as NET Weight, TARE Weight, GROSS Weight, Time-Date. Toggle between enabled scale inputs. Press to enter, store and use the ID parameters. IDs are used for the Truck IN/OUT mode and also standard ID operation. Initiates macro number 4. Press to establish a Tare Weight. This key doubles as the RIGHT arrow key during data entry, enabling you to move to the next character position.
[PRINT]
Press to enter and store ID information. Press to send data to a printer, computer, or other device. This key is also used when making character entries to create Custom Transmits, etc. Press to accept or enter information to the indicator. Also doubles as a [YES] key for conditional operations. Initiates macro number 1.

Available Options
Hardware options available from GSE provide additional functionality for standard 460 Series indicators, helping you take advantage of their total capabilities. These options can be installed in the field. It is not necessary to return the indicator to GSE for installation of these options. Contact your GSE distributor for part number, price and availability of the options below. The following options are available for the 460 Series indicators:
Multi-Scale Option:
Adds the capability of having two scales.
20 mA Current Loop:
Replaces port 1 RS232 communications, TX-active or passive.
11
Dura-Shield
A clear weatherable film lexan that adheres over the keypad and display. Recommended when high-pressure washdown, petroleum distillates or harsh cleaning agents are present.
Splash Guards
A clear flexible vinyl cover for use in harsh environments. It will keep the indicator well protected and looking like new.
12
WARNING!
Make sure the Model 460 or Model 465 indicator is completely disconnected from the power source before working on it. Any operation that involves opening the indicator enclosure should be performed only by qualified service personnel and only after the power is disconnected! Hazardous voltage is accessible within the enclosure. Before you begin the installation of your 460 Series indicator, please review the guidelines and step-by-step installation procedures provided in this chapter. INFORMATION IMPORTANT!
Table-Top Use
Each of the standard 460 Series indicators comes with a swivel bracket that permits you to tilt the face of the instrument to any desired angle. The bottom of the bracket has non-slip rubber pads. These pads prevent the indicator from scratching and sliding across a table surface when you press the keys.
13
Permanent Mounting
Four mounting holes on the swivel bracket enable the indicator to be secured to a fixed surface. The holes are 0.28-in diameter (0.7 mm) to accommodate or M6 metric fasteners.
14
Figure 3: 460 Panel mount The Model 465 indicator is available in a panel mount version. The panel cutout dimensions are 8.00-8.25 height by 9.00-9.25 width. Once it is installed, the panel unit has full washdown capability. The panel mount version functions just like the tabletop version. Differences are in the enclosure packaging and the positioning of the main board and display.
15
Environmental Suitability
Each of the standard 460 Series indicators comes in a sealed stainless steel enclosure that can be used in a washdown environment. If the indicator is used in such a setting, be sure the AC power socket outlet is properly protected! The keypad is made of silicon rubber. Specifications are available from GSE for the reactions of this material to various solvents. The keypad can be cleaned with a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and mild detergent. The display window may scratch due to aggressive cleaning, care must be taken to avoid such damage. The display window is made from a polycarbonate material. The gasket for the display is a closed-cell polyethylene foam. The gasket is resistant to water, detergent, and alcohol, but it may be adversely affected by aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
Remote Display
When setup as a remote display, the 460/465 duplicates the display of the Master Scale. The 460/465 key-presses are directed to the master scale.. To Disable the Remote's keys, disconnect the wire from the Remotes TX on Comm 1 or Contact your GSE Distributor to reprogram the 460/465. To partially disable the keyboard, contact your GSE Scale Distributor.

Counting (Features)
Your distributor will set the following modes/features to your requirements. They might slightly change the procedures listed below. Auto Sample: The indicator will automatically assume the correct number of pieces has been added to the scale when the scale stabilizes. Auto Enhance: Works in conjunction with % Accuracy to allow the indicator to automatically enhance the average piece weight whenever the necessary criteria has been met Sample Size: The number of pieces used to calculate the average piece weight % Accuracy: The required piece weight accuracy for sample acceptance. Accuracy Displayed: shows the accuracy of the current average piece weight

Then the minimum achieved accuracy will be displayed. If a greater accuracy is desired, add more parts but not more than the maximum enhanceable quantity. As soon as motion ceases, the indicator will recalculate the piece weight and display the new maximum number of pieces that can be added while still accurately enhancing the piece weight.
5. Add parts to the scale, allowing the scale to stabilize for further piece weight enhancements as necessary.
