Barnes Annie Jacobsens Area 51; An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base (Little Brown, Company), sheds light on previously classified work by the U.S. military at Area 51 in Nevada. While parts of her new book are a welcome addition to the historical record, unfortunately Jacobsen undermines her own credibility in one key area of her tome, and it is an important one: the subject of the Roswell UFO crash myth of 1947 and its connections she says, to both Joseph Stalin and Nazi Auschwitz extermination camp doctor or Angel of Death, Josef Mengele. Incredibly, Jacobsen claims that the real object recovered at Roswell in 1947, was not the remains of either an extraterrestrial spacecraft, nor was it a secret U.S. military project. Instead, it was the brainchild of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, who hired Nazi Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele after the war ended, to horribly disfigure via gruesome surgery or genetic manipulation, two small children to look like aliens. As if this werent bizarre enough, Jacobsen further boasts that these altered kids were then put into a special aircraft, one based on the Nazi flying wing design by the Horton brothers, and were secretly flown into U.S. air space where they met their demise by crashing in the New Mexico desert. Both of them, supposedly survived. Jacobsen claims she was told all this by a confidential source, a scientist at Area 51. We identify him in this expose. He denies her version of events, as do others.

Stalins motive, Jacobsen states, was to sew panic in the American public, because the Soviets lacked nuclear weapons. [They] were not aliens. Nor were they consenting airmen. They were human guinea pigs, she writes incredulously. Annie Jacobsen swears that a credible source told her this loopy story, and she repeats it uncritically in her book, even though it CANNOT possibly be true. In this expose we reveal his name, and prove that her reporting has credibility problems. Annie Get Your FACTS Straight - Do Basic Research The first obvious problem with Jacobsens factual reporting is the mere mention of the crash location being at Roswell. This ignorant claim is the first indication that this story is a hoax, because the REAL Roswell debris recovered by Major Jesse Marcel in 1947 was on the Foster family ranch, which was managed by Mac Brazel, who first found the material. It is located much closer to the city of Corona, New Mexico, and is more than 70 miles northwest of Roswell. If Jacobsens secret informant had any credible knowledge of this event, he would never have used the term Roswell, since the debris did not fall anywhere close to this small city. The only reason this event is even called Roswell, is because of UFO conspiracy nuts, and the fact that the military personnel stationed at Roswell Army Air Field on the outskirts of this small town got involved. There was no viable military authority in Corona, despite it being only some thirty-odd miles from the debris location. Brazel brought some pieces of the object he found which came down on the ranch property he managed to the local sheriff in Roswell when he went there to sell wool. Brazel was hoping for a cash reward from the military for doing this, since friends of his in Corona during one of his visits there had suggested that the material he found might be from one of those flying disks which were making news headlines across America. The military was offering money to anyone who could produce physical evidence of their existence, especially if the material was in the form of a piece of one of these disks. The town of Roswell has nothing to do with the actual location of the debris and where it was recovered, debris which was later identified by the Air Force as belonging to the Top Secret American (not Russian) military program known as Project Mogul, which was designed to spy on the Soviets and was as classified as the Manhattan Project during World War II, which oversaw the making of the worlds first atomic bomb. Nazis Always Make a Fine CONspiracy The most absurd aspect of Jacobsens fairy tale about Stalin being behind the mythical Roswell UFO crash event concerns the supposed involvement of Nazi Angel of Death Dr. Josef Mengele, who was one of the key doctors who personally conducted the most gruesome experiments on people at the death camp Auschwitz, in Poland. While Mengele certainly existed, he never did help Stalin, and numerous records prove (including Mengeles own written accounts), that he was never in the custody of the Russians, a fate which all high ranking Nazis, especially senior Schutzstaffel or SS men like Mengele, logically and desperately sought to avoid. Mengele escaped detection and identification when he was a prisoner in American custody after the war, largely because of one simple fact: unlike most SS men, Mengele never had the blood group tattoo inked on his skin under his left bicep, which would have indicted him as being a member.

This important tattoo, comprised of the letters A, B, AB or 0, (See Fig. 1) was marked on SS troops starting in 1935, thanks to the orders of Heinrich Himmler, the organizations leader. Located on the inner part of the left bicep area, or just below it, this spot was chosen on the body because statistically, based on German studies of injured soldiers, it was less likely to be wounded in fighting. The purpose of this tattoo was to allow doctors on the battlefield to easily identify the blood types of their soldiers whenever blood transfusions were needed. Its existence was logical, practical, and apolitical. The reason SS personnel were usually the only personnel who had it is because the larger general German army or Wehrmacht, resisted its use. Himmler had no such reservations, and ordered the SS which he commanded to adopt this recommendation which had been made by the SS Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ernst-Robert Grawitz, shown in the inset in Fig. 1.

There are numerous firsthand witnesses (including colleagues of his) who saw Mengele and worked with him both near the end of the war and up to the time he left for Argentina. Their accounts all agree on the important details and are also consistent with letters Mengele secretly wrote and sent to his family during his years on the run. Here are the specific details of his whereabouts, both as the war was ending and up to when he escaped to Argentina, which was years after Roswell occurred. Since Mengele was never in Soviet custody, he could not have helped Stalin.

The Non-Mysterious Wandering Whereabouts of Holocaust Doctor Mengele Dr. Joseph Mengele left Auschwitz in Poland on January 17, 1945, ten days before the Russians liberated it* on January 27th. Like most German soldiers, especially members of Heinrich Himmlers SS, Mengele feared capture, torture and certain death once in the custody of the Red Army. Mengele had seen firsthand what the Russians did to German prisoners, and he certainly knew how the Nazis tortured and massacred people, he committed countless acts of genocide himself, and was responsible for killing hundreds of thousands. Mengele not only shot people at point blank range, he even threw live babies into fires. As an officer in the 5th SS Panzer "Viking" Division, Mengele had fought against the Russians deep in Soviet territory where he served with distinction in one of the most eastern fronts of the war. He saw the extreme cruelty and barbarism both sides inflicted. Hitler and Stalins battles against each other were nothing less than a ruthless war of extermination. Mengele was an obedient Nazi soldier, and was repeatedly decorated. His stint fighting against the Russians ended with a transfer to Berlin, thanks to an injury and Dr. Otmar Freiherr von Verschuer, one of his former mentors. Once in Berlin, it was von Verschuer who told Mengele about the important opportunities at Auschwitz where he could experiment on and butcher people. Mengele eagerly accepted this assignment from his master, and was genuinely grateful. Mengele had delusions that he was a great scientist, and would make major breakthroughs in the study of genetics and German-Aryan racial purity and superiority, which of course has always and only been a racist-driven lie. The Nazis tried to keep members of its SS, especially, out of enemy hands. As the Red Army closed in on Auschwitz, Mengele was transferred to the Gross-Rosen (now Rogonica, in Poland) Concentration camp, which like Auschwitz, was known for its extreme cruelty. Jews and especially Russian prisoners of war were subjected to chemical and biological experiments there. On February 14, 1945, Gross-Rosen was liberated by the Russians. To avoid capture, Mengele and other Nazis fled the camp. Mengele dumped his incriminating SS uniform and changed into regular German army Wehrmacht clothes, and joined a unit of soldiers who were hastily retreating. Eventually he arrived in Saaz, where he met his colleague Dr. Otto-Hans Kahler on May 2, 1945, just five days before Germany officially surrendered. Kahler was now one of the senior medical officers in a German mobile hospital field unit, he had worked with Mengele during their term together at the Hereditary Biology and Racial Hygiene Institute under Dr. von Verschuer, before World War II started. This mobile hospital unit, Kriegslazarett 2/591, stayed briefly and then left Saaz, moving through Karlsbad, where they eventually set up a makeshift camp sheltering themselves in the forests of Erzgebirge.
*While campaigning for President, Barack Obama falsely claimed that his uncle had liberated Auschwitz and that the horrors he witnessed had so shocked him, that he would come home and stay silent and just go upstairs and wouldnt talk about it. It was a moving story told convincingly. While it swayed voters, it wasnt true! Although President Obamas uncle did serve honorably in the U.S. Army, it was the Russians (not the Americans) who liberated Auschwitz in Poland. If Mengele had been caught, he would have been deported to Poland to stand trial, since this area by agreement was under Russian control. Obama says he has a vivid recollection of this event and his uncles involvement, because of how it severely affected him. This story cannot be true, yet the media never called out Obama on it.

The area Mengele and his unit were now located in, was officially under U.S. control, which covered the southern part of Germany and the north region of Czechoslovakia. However, the American Army had halted its advance, while the Red Army was rapidly closing in from the East. Now situated between both armed forces, Mengele was literally in a real no mans land, sandwiched in the gap which existed between the two armies. During this chaos, an American military officer made contact with the field unit Mengele was in, and promised them that they would not be harmed if they stayed where they were situated while talks with the Soviets over final turf issues were being settled. Earlier, Mengele had lost contact with his friend, Dr. Kahler, who asked his colleague, Dr. Fritz Ulmann, to look after him. Ulmann agreed to do so, with both Kahler and Ulmann noting in their interviews and debriefings with U.S. intelligence, that Mengele seemed depressed, and spoke openly of being involved in the selections at Auschwitz. Ulmann was a neurologist, unlike Mengele, who was a general physician. For the next six weeks, as the Red Army and the American military decided what to do with the various areas in southern Germany and northern Czechoslovakia, Mengele and the mobile hospital field unit he joined stayed put, worrying each day that the Russians would capture them, despite American promises of safety. Finally, during the second week of June, 1947, the U.S. Army gave permission for Mengele and his men to head west and proceed straight into their custody. There is no disputing these facts, these events are confirmed by official U.S. military records, easily available if Jacobsen had checked, and the testimonies of Drs. Kahler and Ulmann. They are even stated by Mengele himself, who wrote the following: At the end of the war, my unit was in Czechoslovakia and on the night of the armistice we moved toward the west and reached the Saxony area where we were held by the Americans and where the Russians at first could not follow us. We were in a type of no man's land. As long as we had food, the only thing that worried us was when the area would fall. Finally as the food was becoming more and more scarce, and the rumors that the Russians would occupy the area increased, we decided to take action. With a few vehicles from our medical unit, we formed a column and through a trick were able to drive through the American lines and reached the Bavarian area. In the neighborhood of the first large city, we were naturally stopped and were brought to an American prison camp. We achieved our goal just as we were running out of fuel. U.S. military records and the testimonies of Drs. Kahler, Ulmann and others prove that Mengeles basic account is correct, except for the part about falling into the custody of the American Army via a trick. Mengele may not have known the real reasons, but his basic story is true. The evidence is undeniable, and it proves that he was not in Russian hands, but was actually taken prisoner by the Americans. When Mengele first arrived, he was imprisoned in a POW camp in Schauenstein. All three of these Nazi doctors, Kahler, Ulmann and Mengele, suddenly found themselves reunited again, they were now prisoners in the same facility. This American POW camp had been set up rather hastily, but it was operating by early May, 1945. Now in the custody of the U.S. Army, Mengele told his captors that his name was Josef Memling, who was a well known artist in Bavaria. Not knowing any different, the Americans officially discharged him from this POW camp in late June of 1945, in what

would be one of the major intelligence blunders of the war. Mengele had a warrant issued for his arrest dating from 1944, and wasnt the only Nazi big wig to slip away under everyones noses, there were numerous others. The American ignorance concerning not only Mengele but other wanted Nazi war criminals already in their custody, men such as Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann, was compounded by the fact that no wanted lists had been sent to this specific camp facility. Since hardly anyone spoke German, the U.S. Army relied on a few, key German prisoners to act as translators and provide helpful assistance. It was a careless, stupid mistake, which Mengele and other SS men exploited to their advantage where possible. Many SS men were identified because they had the blood group tattoo on their arm. Mengele did not. Mengele used at least five different names while in custody, changing them as situations and opportunities presented themselves. Earlier, he had discarded his incriminating identity papers, despite the risk of getting shot for not possessing them. Mengele, Kahler and Ulmann remained prisoners at the camp in Schauenstein for approximately six weeks, after which these three men were then transferred along with other POWs for final processing and official discharge to Helmbrechts, where they remained for another couple of weeks.

The Circumstances of Mengeles Release by the U.S. Army While it is certainly inexcusable that Mengele was able to move around undetected while in the custody of the American army, it is also quite logical, considering the unusual circumstances which existed at the end of the war. The American military alone had more than three MILLION German prisoners of war. The means to incarcerate them, properly feed and take care of them in humane ways simply did not exist. It was General Omar Bradley who first alerted his superiors to their ironic but very real situation. In a communique he sent on May 16, 1945, Bradley was his usual blunt self, telling General Eisenhower, who was the Supreme Commander, that a post-war humanitarian crises was about to explode. According to declassified intelligence records, long available in the public domain and even published in a special report on Josef Mengele by the U.S. Department of Justice in 1992, the following notation appears: On May 16, 1945, General Omar N. Bradley informed General Dwight D. Eisenhower that the German army supplies that the Seventh Army had been using to feed the disarmed enemy troops would run out that day. He added that within four days, all of the supplies that could be obtained from civilian sources in the area would also be depleted, concluding that these disarmed forces will either have to be fed or released. Bradley asked for immediate authority to discharge German POWs. Although Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF) could not authorize a blanket release, it did issue directives to expedite the discharge of prisoners. Directive No. 3, issued on May 16, 1945, authorized the discharge of men over 50 years of age. Directive No. 4, on June 3, 1945, authorized the release, to their respective governments, of nationals of Belgium, France, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg who had served in the Wehrmacht. A report by SHAEF G-l [Personnel], dated June 14, 1945, revealed anxiety that the present rate of discharge is not sufficiently rapid to enable disposal of prisoners of war and Disarmed German Forces to be completed before the water and before the food situation becomes acute. By early June, G-ls attitude towards discharge, as reflected in an inspection report, was to discharge as many as possible as fast as possible without a great deal of attention to categories. This attitude was reflected in the 12th Army Groups release rate, which averaged 30,000 prisoners a day. The 21st Army Group hoped to increase its discharge rate from 13,000 to 20,000 POWs a day. The Third Army alone had released over a half million disarmed enemy troops by June 8. The U.S. Army found itself in a very difficult situation. with over three million German POWs in custody, dwindling food supplies, and with a significant and growing displaced person population with its own pressing needs and problems, the U.S. needed to discharge German POWs as quickly as possible. (Emphasis added.) On June 29, 1945, SHAEF issued Disbandment Directive No. 5 which, in effect, authorized what had been going on for some time: a general discharge of German nationals held as prisoners of war, except those in automatic arrest categories, SS men, and war criminals. From that date, the Army discharged German POWs at an even faster rate.

On July 5, 1945, SHAEF issued Disbandment Directive No.6, which authorized the release of non-German nationals not covered by earlier directives. By the middle of August, the rush appeared to be over. The report declassified by the Department of Justice also states, "Disbandment Directive No.1, issued May 15, 1945, which authorized the release of Agricultural workers, coal miners, transport workers and such other key personnel as are urgently needed, and Directive No. 2, also issued May 15, 1945, which authorized the discharge of women who were not members of the SS, concentration camp guards, or German. According to Ulmann, he and Mengele were released at the same time. Although Ulmann's discharge paper is not dated, it was signed by Captain Claudius J. Walker, who was with the 400th AFAB. Walker arrived in the Helmbrechts area on July 31, 1945, and was transferred out on August 8th, a week later. His short tenure there gives us a time window of certainty for the dating of Ulmann release document. Ulmann was therefore set free during the first week of August 1945, along with Mengele. Together, the two of them rode in a U.S. Army truck destined for Munich. Mengele was dropped off in or nearby the city of Ingolstadt, just north of Munch, not far from his hometown of Gnzberg. Mengeles Whereabouts After Release by the Americans Mengele knew he was a wanted man. He desired to remain out of the spotlight, and was smart enough not to go back to his family town. The Mengeles were wealthy, his father, Karl, employed many workers in the small city, and had already been arrested and briefly detained by the U.S. Army because of the senior position he held in the community. To avoid detection by the Americans, Josef Mengele hid out in the nearby town of Donauwrth, which was located just east of Gnzberg. Mengele went to this location because a schoolmate friend of his, Dr. Albert Miller, and his family lived there. Miller was a doctor of veterinary medicine. Josef Mengeles presence in this town is undeniable. Otillie Miller, Dr. Albert Millers wife, testified that she vividly remembers Mengele showing up, unannounced, in the summer of 1945. The Miller family recalls that Mengele stayed for a few hours, ate a meal with them, and during his visit regaled them with details of how he was taken prisoner by the Americans, fooled them; was held for several weeks, and then released. The Millers could not have known this information if Mengele had not visited them. Fine details in their testimony confirm their story, such as Mengele having two official discharge papers with him from the U.S. Army. One of them was in his own name, the other was in Dr. Ulmanns, who the Millers did not know. Ulmann had been given two copies of his release certificate, likely reporting the first copy as being lost so he could get a replacement, he then gave Mengele one of them. After finishing his visit with the Millers, Mengele was given a ride from Dr. Miller in his car out of the town of Donauwrth. Miller offered to take the Auschwitz killer back to his hometown of Gnzberg, to be with his wife and family, but Mengele refused. Instead, he asked that a message be passed secretly to them that he was alive and well. Mengele next told Miller that he was going to the Soviet zone to a town called Gera, to visit a nurse he met and had became close to while in no mans land. Mengele had given her some of his files and specimens from Auschwitz, he now wanted them back.

NO Evidence Mengele Worked for the Russians, Especially Stalin Mengele was always a ladies man. He used people to further his own agendas, especially after the war when he was on the run. Before marrying his wife, Irene, he had even cheated on her, and remarked in his own writings that he was amazed at her loyalty. According to people who knew Mengele, he was vain, cocky, considered himself to be good looking as well as a great scientist. Mengele bragged to his relatives when he was young, that he would be the first scientist in the history of their family. He shunned the automotive factory business his father had successfully built, even though it allowed him to live life in his early years as a spoiled rich kid. While there is no question that Mengele feared capture by the Soviets, and rightfully so, his ego, vanity and sense of self-importance is beyond dispute. Mengele travelled at night, where possible, to avoid the Russians. He finally arrived at Gera some three weeks later, where his female nurse friend lived and his precious files were stored. Mengele writes that he did not stay long, for only a few weeks in fact. He retrieved his self-important papers and specimens, some of which were found years later after his death, and then returned back to the American occupied zone of Germany, using his false name and traveling right under the nose of the U.S. Army. If Mengele had been arrested by the Soviets and especially had entered into official cooperation, there would have been records somewhere. Instead, there are none! What Jacobsen and Roswell conspiracy nuts always avoid mentioning is that despite the end of the Cold War, which saw the defection of thousands of former Soviet workers and the release of millions of pages of once secret Kremlin documents, there is not a single Secret set of Roswell files anywhere, and there is no evidence that any ever existed. If Roswell really happened as UFO conspiracy nuts claim, and it truly involved the crash and recovery of either an alien spacecraft or especially a Soviet aircraft, there should have been by now, some 64 years later, several witnesses from the intelligence community, as well as leaked or smuggled out documents, confirming this. Instead, there is nothing. No defectors, no Top Secret files, nothing! The amount of information the U.S. intelligence community, including the secret services of other governments such as Mossad, MI6 and even Germany, have obtained over the years about the Soviets since the collapse of Communism and especially their satellite regimes in the former Iron Curtain, has been so enormous, that even Russian nuclear warhead designs and blueprints for their most advanced weaponry have long been in American custody.* Files from East Germanys STASI are just one example. Sometimes, absence of evidence is indeed evidence of absence. The fact that not a single defector nor worker from any of the former Iron Curtain countries, including Russia, has ever seen nor handled nor offered the Roswell-Stalin Secret UFO files is a damning indictment against Jacobsens loopy claim that such an event occurred.
*One of the arguably dumbest secret missions ever conducted by the CIA, authorized by President Bill Clinton, was Operation Merlin. This debacle involved hiring a Russian scientist who was given the actual engineering blueprints for a Soviet nuclear implosion warhead, leaked to the Americans after Communism fell. His instructions were to give it to the Iranians in Vienna, which he did. The CIA altered the math on these blueprints to try to fool Iran. The idea was that the Iranians would use them to build a nuclear device which could never work. However, Iran was not fooled, they not only noticed the bogus math, it was even pointed out to them by the hired Russian scientist! The end result is that Irans rogue nuclear program received a tremendous boost. The files saved them years of engineering and billions of dollars. 10

Real Problems with Mengeles Engineered Aliens If Jacobsen had done basic research, she would have quickly discovered by examining the history of UFO reports and alien abduction claims, that the present day stereotype of visiting extraterrestrials some 3-4 feet tall, with large bulbous heads, dark wraparound eyes, DID NOT EXIST in 1947 and would not become a mainstream icon of pop culture until decades later, especially after Steven Spielbergs movies became hits. Furthermore, at the time of Roswell, most people did not consider the flying discs to be alien in origin, this idea had not yet matured. Instead, they were considered to be Soviet made, especially after the Air Force denied its involvement. This thinking was simple process of elimination: if the USA was not making them, it must be the Russians. However, a review of the histories of Russian aerospace technology and evolution, easily proves that the Soviets could not make the objects which were reported by millions of Americans and made media headlines in the summer of 1947, objects which most of the time were never described as disks at all, but as lights in the night sky, or even as green fireballs, which although unknown at the time, are now proven to have been meteors and astronomical in origin, not aliens visiting Earth, Captain Kirk style. If Mengele had worked under Stalins orders to create aliens from small children, he did not have enough time to carry out such a task. It took Mengele three weeks to arrive secretly in Gera, he stayed for only a few weeks, and it took him another three weeks to return back incognito to the American zone. He never stayed with his nurse friend to start a new life with her. As Mengele himself writes, he found living in the town to be unbearable. Life under Soviet occupation was never fun, and true freedoms did not exist. Mengele left as soon as he could, after securing his precious files and his arrival date back to his home area around Gnzberg is beyond dispute. Mengele Returns - The Farm Years: 1945-1948 While Mengele continued to receive secret financial assistance from his wealthy family after he returned, he also sought work. Using the name of Fritz Holmann, he secured a job on a small farm in the village of Mangolding, owned by Georg and Maria Fischer. The Fischers, including Georgs brother Alois, all described Mengele as a reliable, hard worker, but they suspected he had a past and was likely a former SS officer on the run. This did not bother them. Like many Germans in these post war years, they were sympathetic to their own soldiers. Mengele arrived at the Fischers and was hired in mid-October of 1945. He told the them that he had just returned from the Soviet zone in a vain attempt to locate his lost wife. In truth, Irene Mengele was still living comfortably in Gnzberg. Mengele would sneak away to see her quite often during the next few years, until he left for Argentina with help from the Vatican in Rome, aided by a pro-Nazi Bishop named Alois Hudal, who also helped Nazi Adolf Eichmann escape. In 1946, the Mengele family deliberately spread rumors that Josef Mengele died. Their scam was openly public. Irene not only wore the typical black dress of a widowed wife, she even managed to convince the Americans. In truth, he was very much alive, working for the Fischers until August 1, 1948, which means well before, during and for over a year after Roswell happened. Jacobsens claim, therefore, is just not credible. By this time, several Nazis had been prosecuted for war crimes and executed. Mengele himself writes about this. Through contacts with fellow Nazis who were using the famous rat lines to escape, Mengele left Germany forever, in mid April of 1949.

Annies Range Problem: Physics Always Wins Now that we have thoroughly accounted for the non-mysterious whereabouts of Dr. Josef Mengele before, during and after Roswell, proving that there is no evidence that he was ever in Soviet custody and therefore could never have helped Stalin, lets review the last parts of Jacobsens story that she says her confidential source told her. According to Jacobsens Area 51 book, the Soviets launched their Roswell craft in secret from off the coast of Alaska. This obviously means that it had to fly thousands of miles to reach the desert near Corona, New Mexico, where it eventually crashed. The problem with this claim is basic physics: the fact is, the Russians did not have any such aircraft which was capable of not only evading detection by RADAR, but could travel the thousands of miles in distance without refueling. Jacobsen further undermines her reporting by stating that the craft was piloted remotely, which is a technological advance that the Russians did not yet have. Its not surprising this excuse was offered, since altered children dont make for credible pilots. Another glaring mistake in Jacobsens reported story, is her claim that the outside hull of the Roswell craft, contained letters painted on it in the Russian Cyrillic alphabet. Not only was no such lettering ever reported by any Roswell witness, not even any of the hoaxers such as Glenn Dennis and Frank Kaufmann, but it makes no logical sense. If Stalins intentions were to cause confusion and sew panic in the American military and alarm the general public, he would hardly have left obvious clues visible on the outside hull of this imaginary craft, which said, From Russia with love. Annies Confidential Source: First Revealed in 1999! Although Annie Jacobsen says she has gone to great lengths to keep the identity of her confidential source secret, he was easy to locate, thanks to careless clues offered by Jacobsen herself, where she disclosed too many details of his arguably unique background. His name is Alfred ODonnell, who is 88 years old as of this writing. His identity was first published in a book called The First 100 - Portraits of the Men and Women Who Shaped Las Vegas (Huntington Press, 1999), written by two Las Vegas-Review Journal reporters, A.D. Hopkins and K.J. Evans. atomic bombs, otherwise known as nuclear triggers. When he started his work for the U.S. Government, because of strict Top Secret compartmentalization rules, he had no idea he was actually working on the Manhattan Project, which was the construction of the worlds first nuclear weapons. There is no question that ODonnell is a genuine hero of history and is certainly credible, as Jacobsen correctly notes. The question now becomes, is ODonnell telling the truth about Roswell, and is his memory of this truth, factually accurate? As a witness, it is vital to be factually correct. In conversations ODonnell has since had with not only this author via a third party, but other journalists as well, including ABC TVs Nightline, Bill Weir, the following facts have emerged: ODonnells story about Roswell is NOT based on any firsthand knowledge, and he adamantly DENIES that he told Jacobsen some of the more sensational details she claims (falsely it seems) in her book. In a stunning revelation, ODonnell outright denied that he ever held in his arms, any of Mengeles supposed altered children who purportedly survived the crash. These admissions do not bode well for Annie Jacobsen nor the professed objectivity or integrity of her investigative journalism. Annie Jacobsens claims are truly disturbing, but not for reasons one might at first think. Here is what she told Nightlines investigative journalist, Bill Weir, who found numerous problems with both the accuracy and truthfulness in her reporting. They were about 13 years old, (Mengeles supposedly altered children), and they had been manipulated surgically or genetically, to appear as if they were aliens. He (ODonnell) and four other engineers were the recipients of what he calls the equipment, the equipment and the people (the altered children). And as he told me, two of them were still alive. And he held them, and so the way he described them to me, many times hes described them to me, is always with this horrible sense of looking down at them, Jacobsen told Weir melodramatically. (Emphasis added.) Jacobsen Gets Xposed for Interpretations Instead of Real Reporting Nightlines Bill Weir saw obvious problems with what Annie Jacobsen was reporting. Weir stated on camera, When Jacobsen brought him (ODonnell) to us, he contradicted several of her claims. To us, this man (ODonnell) in his late 80s, seemed obviously confused and conflicted, so we promised to protect his identity. (Emphasis added.) Weir further added that, Hes afraid hell be arrested if he goes public, hes also afraid al-Qaeda might kidnap him for his engineering knowledge. He summed up his meeting with ODonnell by saying, Hes a genuinely likable guy with impeccable credentials, but given the few holes in his story and the fact hes almost 90 years old, its impossible to know whether this whole thing is something he witnessed, heard about, or imagined. Predictably, none of this is even hinted at in Jacobsens book, which must now be considered suspect, to put this issue politely. Incredibly, the following exchange took place between Weir and a clearly defensive Annie Jacobsen: Weir: (To Jacobsen) Surely you must have obsessed over how to double source this, how do you confirm this? Jacobsen: Well, Im not sure that its my job to prove it, I do know it was my job to report it, and thats what I, what I did.

Weir: He (ODonnell) told us, he never touched the people who were in that craft. Jacobsen: My interpretation is that he held them. (Emphasis added.) Jacobsen never tells her readers in her sensationalized book that she was interpreting things. As any first year journalism student knows, there is a distinct difference between reporting what people say, versus interpreting it. Real investigative journalists and reporters are not supposed to interpret things, they report on them, after they do thorough, competent and complete investigation, which clearly Jacobsen never bothered to do! When Weir asked what evidence Jacobsen had to support her version of events, since ODonnell had denied her claims, she defensively replied that she had documents, notes and audiotapes, but refused to show them. Even if she did, they might not be of any value. If Jacobsen wrote things down incorrectly, truth doesnt exist. Jacobsen says ODonnell was asked to not only reverse engineer the Russian craft, but also the mythical Mengele altered kids as well. This makes no logical sense. ODonnell is not a medical doctor, he wouldnt know how to reverse engineer nor conduct an autopsy on another human being, especially Josef Mengeles altered children. To make matters worse for Annie Jacobsen, ODonnell denied seeing any altered kids at all, therefore he could not have done any reverse engineering, nor was he asked to.

Jacobsen: The U.S. Government is Mengele Inc. Annie Jacobsens conspiracy claims reached new heights of absurdity and extremism when she wrote in her book and even told Bill Weirs Nightline that, Experiments were done on people for decades, according to my source (ODonnell), they were handicapped children and prisoners. (Emphasis added.) Jacobsen is saying that the U.S. Government is now effectively Josef Mengele Inc., conducting gruesome experiments at Area 51 and medically torturing people. Not surprisingly, Annie Jacobsen has no firsthand nor any credible evidence to support this loopy, extremist claim either. When Weir asked ODonnell what his motives were, which Jacobsen claims are driven by a sense of patriotism, ODonnell replied that he wanted to help Annie sell her book, which is what he has now said to several people who have talked to him. Area 51 Workers Jacobsen Interviewed Also Slam her Work While it is bad enough that Jacobsens sole, confidential source denies her version of events, things get worse for Annie: the group founded by former Area 51 employees known as the Roadrunners Internationale who are quoted extensively in her book, have now also spoken up publicly. They are not amused. What they say about Jacobsen is extremely damaging. T.D. Barnes, the groups president, says bluntly, We were snookered by Annie Jacobsen. Barnes released the following written statement, precisely because he is extremely disappointed over what Jacobsen has done. Approximately two years ago, Annie Jacobsen, an established author and contributing editor for the LA Times wrote an excellent article titled The Road to Area 51, which described the beginning of our Project Oxcart. Because of the success of the article, Mrs. Jacobsen undertook to author a book about the projects and Roadrunner participants, which we embraced with open arms. We saw it as a great means of passing our stories and proud legacy on to our families, friends, and future generations. We took Mrs. Jacobsen into our homes and told her our life history that led to our being proud participants in the ultra secret activities at Area 51. We introduced her to our contemporaries, something that most of us had never done before. After 50 years of silence, we sought to allow our brothers the opportunity to finally tell about the major contributions recently declassified that we, as a band of brothers, made to our nations wars. In a domino like effect, each of us opened the doors of others who took our lead in the telling of their personal sacrifices and contributions to past wars, including the Cold War, and to our nations future wars to keep us free. When we organized the Oxcart Legacy Tour in September 2010, where we spent ten days in the Washington area conducting panel discussions at various intelligence agencies, the Air & Space Smithsonian Museum, the International Spy Museum, and the Capitol Hill Club, we brought Annie Jacobsen along as a friend and author writing our stories. Out of respect to us, these agencies allowed Annie Jacobsen to accompany us to these presentations conducted deep in the inner sanctums of agencies normally closed to those lacking security clearances and a need to know. seeking to associate our time at Area 51 with the so-called Roswell flying saucer crash in 1947. Unknown to us, she located an elderly former employee of the Atomic Energy Commission whose mind now recalls seeing a Russian-made flying saucer constructed by Stalin that reportedly crashed at Roswell packed with medically and genetically altered children as pilots. According to Jacobsen writing in first person and stating as facts, Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele worked with Stalin to create these alien-looking children and this unidentified witness, a nuclear engineer, was given the job of caring for the comatose child pilots incased in vertical tubular tanks filled with Jell-O-like substance and life support systems. Why, if Russia having this technology in 1947, we arent all speaking the Russian language today, or why a nuclear engineer would be called upon to medically care for comatose children incased in Jell-O-like substance is totally lacking in Jacobsens book. However, on the basis of the sole-source stories of an elderly, unidentified witness, Jacobsen and her publisher completely changed the focus of her book from one of heroics to one of horror and fantasy. When presented with discrepancies in her book and on her website promoting the book, Jacobsen refused to correct them, stating she stands by what she was told or wrote. The following discrepancies on the website could have been corrected, but were not: Bud Wheelon only went up in the trainer, its misleading to say he flew in a Mach 3 spy plane. Bissell resigned in 1961 and Wheelon didnt become DDS&T until 1963, thus it is misleading to connect the two events. Herbert Scoville, the Deputy Director for Research (appointed in 1962 to the position that preceded the establishment of the DS&T) would have been Bissells replacement as Mayor of Area 51. (A term not officially used to describe the position.) Referencing the JFK assassination in the Donohue character description is off the mark; it had no effect on the program. Nonetheless, Jacobsens book, Area 51 an uncensored history of Americas Top Secret Military Base has excited those who subscribe to activism, scandal, conspiracy, Nazi and Stalin atrocities, and child mutilation, and is racing towards being a number one seller. The scandal is not the veterans, named and unnamed, whom the public now affiliates to the wild, unsubstantiated gory facts contained in the last chapter of the book where Jacobsen ventures into writing as an activist in the first person. The scandal is Jacobsen who is fending off international condemnation by the media, fellow journalists, and the veterans of Nevadas atomic programs and DOD operations at Area 51 by now claiming that as a reporter it was her duty to report what she was told and that it was not her job to verify the truth. Instead of enjoying a great book that the DOD and DOE families can be proud of and share with their families, the aging Roadrunners are having to show up at Jacobsens book signings, not to promote her book, but to set the record straight and clear their names and legacy. However, take away the final chapter, Area 51 An Uncensored History Of Americas Top Secret Military Base is a great book that Annie Jacobsen put her heart and soul into and is certainly one that should be read. What Roswell REALLY Was - Project Mogul It is a fact that the original Roswell firsthand eyewitnesses who saw and handled the debris, never reported any spacecraft which could have contained even one pilot, let alone two. No engine parts nor aviator seats were seen nor recovered. Instead, what was found were bits of debris and foil, wooden sticks and even balloons; string, and what was described as an O ring. Bessie Brazel is a prime example. She was one of the first eyewitnesses who helped gather up the debris with her father. Mac Brazels daughter clearly remembered what she saw and handled. She even put her wrist through one of the O rings she picked up, as if it were a bracelet. It looked like a balloon which had burst, she said in her original and first interviews she gave. Predictably, UFO CONpsiracy* nuts never talk about Bessie Brazels description, it doesnt look good if aliens are using balloons as a means of intergalactic propulsion. Instead, Roswell sensationalists and pro-alien diehards always focus on the sensational testimony of their most credible eyewitness, Major Jesse Marcel. Specifically, they cite Marcels claims of seeing strips of foil which were so tough that they could not be dented with a sixteen pound sledge hammer, (Marcel later admitted he never actually witnessed this firsthand) or of metal which could magically unfold itself without leaving a single crease visible, so-called memory metal. Unfortunately for UFO enthusiasts, Major Jesse Marcel was not a credible source. There is ample objective evidence that he grossly exaggerated events, and had an undeniable history of doing such things. Here are a few examples which prove it: Major Marcels now declassified military file, which was first published in my book The Roswell UFO Crash: What They Dont Want You to Know, shows that he was evaluated by his superiors regarding his performance in the military right after Roswell. Colonel Payne Jennings, the officer who was second in command at the base, specifically dinged Marcel for having a tendency to magnify problems he is confronted with. The date of this evaluation was only a few days after Roswell because Marcels original misidentification of the debris caused the Air Force great embarrassment. Marcel never recovered from this humiliation, his career in the Air Force ended on a whimper. He received a hardship discharge so that he could return home to take care of his mother, Vivian, who said that no extraterrestrial spacecraft was ever recovered by her son. Naturally, UFO nuts ignore her words and other inconvenient truths, such as the following: Claim: Major Jesse Marcel lied and said he had a Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Physics from George Washington University. FACT: Marcel never attended GWU and never earned any degree. Claim: Marcel said he was a pilot. FACT: He was never a pilot, but he did fly aboard aircraft as a reconnaissance officer. There is a difference between being a passenger on a plane, versus being a certified, rated pilot. Claim: Marcel boasted that he personally flew the Roswell debris to General Rameys office in Texas. FACT: Marcel did not fly the wreckage, he was a passenger on the flight which carried it because he was the officer who had initially recovered the material and was asked to report his story in person.

Claim: Marcel said that he was shot down in the Pacific during World War II and was the only surviving member of his air crew. FACT: Marcel was never shot down. Claim: Marcel said that he was awarded five air medals during his career. FACT: His military record shows only two. Claim: Marcel boasted that he had shot down five enemy aircraft during World War II which would have made him an Ace. FACT: Marcel never shot down anyone. In 1997, after my book exposing the false claims of Major Jesse Marcel, every other significant Roswell witness and 24 other books which have hyped and exploited the myth of a crashed spacecraft for decades, Marcels son, Jesse Jr., wrote an email admitting that, My father did have a tendency to exaggerate on occasion. No kidding. While Major Marcel, in all fairness, never knew about Project Mogul and the U.S. military certainly did cover it up because they did not want Stalin to know that we were spying on him from high up in the atmosphere some ten years before Sputnik was launched, it served the pentagons interest to encourage brazen disinformation. As the CIA admitted publicly in 1997, everything from the SR-71 Blackbird (which was painted silver when it first flew) to the U2 spy planes, were the source of countless UFO reports which are still listed as Unknowns in the files of Project Blue Book. In 1997, the Discovery Channel was the first network to do a breakthrough TV special on this subject, called Secrets of Area 51 Revealed. I was one of the main stars of this documentary expose, along with famed author Tom Clancy and Popular Science writer Jim Wilson, whose major story first broke open some of these myths. Much of the basic data Annie Jacobsen now claims are new revelations, not only were first disclosed in this show, but they have long been in the public record since last century. Jacobsens book on Area 51 contains so many errors, it would take an entire booklet just to cite and correct them. While mainstream media outlets have praised Jacobsen for her meticulous research, her book is no such thing. To cite a simple example: Jacobsen writes that Pakistan is west of Russia. Every map in the world, proves that it is East. Conclusion: A Historic Opportunity Lost, Forever Tainted The information cited in this expose, has been declassified and available in the public domain since at least 1992 concerning the proven whereabouts of Nazi Auschwitz Dr. Josef Mengele, and since 1997 regarding the truth about Roswell and Project Mogul. Jacobsen failed to verify even the most basic of facts, which is inexcusable for anyone who boasts of being an investigative journalist. Her failure is deliberate, since no one forced her not to do a proper job. Instead of her new book being a completely positive, genuinely welcomed, historic addition to a fascinating chapter in American military aviation history and innovation which needs to be told, it is now forever blighted and cheapened by the inclusion of a series of careless mistakes, interpretations which are unbecoming of a true journalist, and outright falsehoods. Thanks to her provably bogus Roswell story, her inclusion of which sinks to new lows, Jacobsen has now infamously redefined new boundaries for advancing one of the most extremist and loopy CONspiracies ever conceived. When Annie Jacobsen writes that ODonnells explanation about the child pilots inside the flying disc answers the riddle of the so-called Roswell aliens, shes couldnt be more arrogant nor wrong, since no aliens were ever recovered at Roswell.
