Title of Project Anti-Jamming System Design Advisor Dr. Adnan Khalid Co-Advisor Not yet decided No. of Students 1-2 Abstract In this project, we aim to analyze jamming systems and formulate a method to design a transmitter and receiver that can transmit and receive data correctly under the influence of jamming conditions. We will discover methods that can be used to design anti-jamming system and present a performance analysis for these methods. The final designed anti-jamming system will be implemented using the best method discovered during the analysis Mobile IPv6 is specific to providing mobility in IPv6 networks. However, most of the internet of today is still IPv4 based. Hence, in scenarios where MN roams in IPv4-only visited network, the current specification fails to provide mobility support. This presents a major challenge for large scale operational deployment of Mobile IPv6. A mechanism is needed to allow Mobile IPv6 to work when access network is not IPv6 capable. Also, both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic should be able to flow from home network to the MN so that communication can take place with legacy IPv4-only CN. 3-4 A standalone ECG machine having sensors and all circuitry to represent the electrical signals in an electro-cardio gram. This project will be in cooperation with the second project where the ECG machine will be interfaced with a PC. Conventially ECG is presented on paper where detailed information is difficult to extract. This project will work on interfacing an ECG machine with a PC so that the obtained signals can be post-processed and statistical analysis can also be done on a collection of such signals Implementation of a stand-alone GSM jammer circuit which could jam the GSM uplink/downlink channels both in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. Using sensors and micro-controllers this project aims to design a circuit which could warn a driver of a car present in his/her blind spot. Cognitive radios have been recently proposed as radios that can adapt and act according to the environment to optimize performance or to fulfill policy. Cogntive Radio Networks can be thought of a network of intelligent nodes each equipped with one or more cognitive radios. There are many applications of such cognitive radio networks such as dynamic spectrum access, transmission power control, etc. However, the area is nascent and there are many unsolved research problems. In this project, we will be seeing how standard artificial intelligence techniques can be employed in the context of cognitive radio networks to improve performance in general. We will study in particular how these techniques may be used to solve MAC (or Routing) problems. Due to the lack of proper care of the precious Urdu literature in most of the libraries, the books are in danger of being unreadable after a few years. Digitizing such literature is therefore of high importance and will allow more people to access such rare books. The application will recognize the entire text, and will be able to know the exact word. In future, this project may be extended to convert this digital urdu text to speech. This project aims to buid a solution for the radiologists who want to see the complete patient data without having to scroll through each image slice one by one on a computer screen. This project will use the projector as the display, and a camera and IR sensor for the human interaction detection and the slide position and orientation. The idea proposed in this project is to invent and design a system that can utilize the weight and the flow of traffic to generate power with the help of an array of electrical generators. These grids can be placed and tested near an intersection to store the generated power so that the LED based traffic signals can get uninterupted power. Development of an algorithm which is efficient enough to segment human hair.In the second phase an attempt would be made to generate a bald 3d model of the head.In the third phase the goal would be to replace the segmented hair with other hair samples. Hyperspectral sensors have the capability of capturing images in a very narrow spectral range and being airborne have a decent spatial resolution. Since these sensors have a high spectral resolution these sensors are being used for effective monitoring of crops. An important aspect of this research is differentiating between different crop types and assessing their health.

The process of obtaining a high spectral and spatial resolution image from two images having either high spectral or spatial resolution is called pansharpening. Some recent pansharpening models have tried to solve the problem of pansharpening as an optimization problem. This project would focus on the optimization of one such model. An attempt to optimize the pansharpening model using an Evolutionary algorithm was not successful. In this project focus would be to modify the existing evolutionary algorithm to obtain the final optimized result. The project would use three cameras to capture the front and partial side views of an individual and generate a 3D face model from the given information. The project would focus on the following goals: 1. Generating a 3D face model from the images obtained from the three cameras. 2. Create a substantial database of 3D face images at SEECS. 3. Use existing 3D face recognition algorithms for recognizing faces in the created database. A major issue in face recognition is that under varying light conditions eigenface type methods fail. In order to remove this shortcoming illumination invariant face recognition methods have been proposed. The goal of this project would be to focus on the development of these methods and assess their improvement over existing illumination non-invariant face recognition methods. Generally, it is not possible to form 3D images from a single 2D image. However, recently a technique has been proposed in which pop-up type 3D images can be generated from a single 2D image. The 3D image generated is like a children story book pop up and not a complete 3D model. The 3D model generated is based upon statistical measures and not on true geometric information. The goal of this project would be to develop the proposed algorithm and test it for different type of images. Wireless power transfer is a hot research area because it facilitates powering up remote devices. Thus it can reduce cost of the wireless networks. Some efforts have been done in ISM-band, but less at higher frequencies. So there is a need to explore wireless power transfer at higher microwave frequencies such as X-Band. Communication link between portable devices is quite a norn such as in Walky-talky. However, an intelligent communication link between two mobile devices intelligently without the need of a person can have potential applications in defense communications. Hence is a proposed to be explored. Making a reliable clock distribution network to synchronize the entire multiprocessor System on chip (MPSOC) is a great challenge. This project tackles this design challenge by developing a Digital Phase Detector circuit for cross clock domains using Cadence tools. The expected outcomes include a comprehensive design methodology along with a proof of concept simulation. Design a tele-surgical Training Robot that is capable of provinding Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery excercises. The project includes the development of a robotic arm, micro-controller based arm control, controlling the robotic arm via internet communication link using an input device connected to a PC. This project aims to develop an affordable next generation multitouch interactive table top system where multiple users are able to colloborate interactively over an LCD or projected screen similar to Microsoft Surface. A successful deveopment shall result into an interactive display system for Meuseums, Geographical Military/Stretegic Plannings & Board Games. The project will take input from Webcam/IR Sensors to predict the gesture and touch. Video Registration; stitching of multiple vieo frames; is one of the prime requirement of aerial video survilance. This project aims to achieve Real Time Video Registration by employing Xilinx Xtreme DSP Video Starter Kit. The required hardware is available and the project shall require extensive challenge in the Digital System Design for the project. The demo shall be real time generaiton of Registered Video of a handheld video camera. This project aims to achieve Real Time Object Tracking by employing Xilinx Xtreme DSP Video Starter Kit. In this project you will be developing a system that will generate the path traversed by an object being tracked in a mosaic video. A mosaic video is a video constructed by augmenting several different videos in a wide view single merged view. The tracked path will be stored as a GIF image, thus saving considerable storage space for surveillance storage. One practical deliverable shall be to judge the free parking space available for a car entering the parking lot. GNU Radio is a free software development toolkit that provides the signal processing runtime and processing blocks to implement software radios using readily-available, low-cost external RF hardware and commodity processors.Open source implementation of many protocols like GSM, WiFi, Zigbee and bluetooth is available. In this project our aim is to explore ways to make devices, using different communication protocols, communicate with each other using this open source platform. Electrocardiography (ECG) is one of the most essential tools of diagnostic medicine. However, due to the high cost of ECG monitors, they are only used in emergency situations or in Intensive/Cardiac Care Units (ICU/CCU). The result is that patients with severe arrhythmic abnormalities in less severe circumstances (General Ward, Out-patient) are often misdiagnosed or mistreated. This situation becomes worse in rural areas due to unavailability of expert cardiologists and/or ECG monitors. The aim of this project is to design a low-cost system that can detect arrhythmias without the need of costly ECG monitors. With the current boom in communications and networks, nowadays there is more emphasis laid on application oriented algorithms and protocols. The proposed project aims to design and implement wireless airborne platforms (WAPs) for sensing different applications. Furthermore, these WAPs collaborate and coordinate during their flying mission. Each sensing platform is equipped with sensors to take the necessary measurements for specific applications. Subsequently, these sensing platforms send their measurements to the base station for analysis and necessary action. For example, they can be equipped with camera sensors to capture/stream video of desired target. Each WAP is equipped with radio for communication with base station and extended memory chip to store the sensed information. This each WAP can either store the sensed data or transmit it to base station whenever it comes within range of base station. The WAP should exhibit the following design characteristics; Low complexity communication and sensing algorithms, Compression of sensed data ( if it is of large volume), Basic obstacle avoidance mechanism, Robustness against communication losses Design and implementation of a printer that is capable of braille printing for blind people Position tracking of wireless devices is a leading area of research. In outdoor environments GPS is the prime source of positioning, however, in indoor environments GPS is unavailable and position tracking is carried out using various techniques. In this project an indoor positioning system for SEECS will be developed and positioning will be carried using two techniques namely Fingerprinting and Wi-Fi positioning. A performance comparison of both the techniques will be investigated by changing the geometry and the number of access points. The wireless device will calculate the position and will send the required information to a central server where the information will be displayed on the map of the school. In the last part of the project some indoor location based services will also be developed. 2nd Co-Advisor : Ammar Karim The ultrasonic haptic vision system enables a person to navigate hallways and around large objects without sight, through the use of an ultrasonic rangefinder that haptically interfaces with the user via tiny vibrating motors mounted on the users head. The idea of this project is to design a delta-sigma modulator for Switched Mode Transmitters using Cadence. Such modulator will act as a heart of Switched-Mode Transmitter and improves the efficiency to a great extent. This architecture also provides facility to change RF frequency without changing complete architecture. In the first part of this project, the System level Model of Delta-Sigma Modulator will be designed using MATLAB. Such model will give quite good understanding of different RF Front End components. Also parameters will be extracted for Circuit Design of different blocks. The second part is to implement behavioral model on Cadence using Verilog-A. At the end Circuit level implementation will be carried out. The modulator would be simulated on IHP-Microelectronics design KIT, which is a 250nm SGB25GOD technology from IHP. The students will have the chance to further continuo in the given area in collaboration with IHP, Germany

MPPT is a famous technique for efficiently using solar pannels for charging batteries. This project will deal with the development of MPPT based charger alsong with developement and improvement of previously designed solar system at SEECS. A car will be fitted with a system that is power by solar pannels. when a car is parked on moving and AC is not ON, temperature of the car rises very high which becomes uncomfortable especially when the windows are closed. Inorder to maintain the temperature of the car to a certain level a sytem will be developed which will automatically control the flow of hot air out of the car and also controlling the amount of humidity . The design requirements for the antenna include bandwidth of 2 to 18 GHz and VSWR of less than or equal to 2:1 for 50 ohms reference impedance. The project comprises the development of a three-dimensional antenna model consisting of a series of printed dipoles distributed on both faces of the substrate, electromagnetic simulations in CST Microwave Studio, fabrication, measurements in an anechoic chamber and comparison of simulated and measured results. The plots of simulated and measured return losses, gains and radiation patterns would be presented. The proposed antenna finds its applications in airborne platforms due to wide bandwidth, high gain, and compact size properties.
