There are not enough beautiful words to
describe Kimmy, truly genuine, gorgeous,
outgoing, enough personality for ten and ir-
replaceable. The unmistakable way she touched
so many peoples lives and the everlasting im-
pression she leaves behind. A beloved and devoted
mother of Joe, Kelly and Jim, a supportive sister to
Joan, Eddie, Jan and Debbie, the beloved daughter of
the late Edward and Katherine, and the Matriarch of her
World Wide Motorcycle Family. Kimmy was unlike no other in her ability to make
people smile and the unselfish impact she had in everything she set her mind to do.
An accomplished marketing, sales and advertising powerhouse she worked at major
newspapers and companies across the country before starting her own motorcycle
magazine Biker Information Guide that includes franchises in many states. Her in-
troduction into the Biker World was by none other than her Brother In-law Frenchie,
back when mostly rough necks and outlaws rode bikes. Never could he have imagined
where this would lead. From her being one of the few women in the day that Rode
her own to being recognized in the motorcycle community nationwide. Weather fit-
ting you and your ride with custom leather or coordinating a successful charity event
Kimmy was the Ultimate Motorcycle Enthusiast.
As one of the original sponsors of Arizona Bike Week in 1997 with Kimmys Custom
Leathers and her continued involvement every year since. Kimmy was duly recognized
in 2009 as the Arizona Bike Week Honoree for her unselfish, heartfelt and relentless
giving to the motorcycle community.
Romans 10:9 & 10
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved.
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with
your mouth that you are saved.
LORD, Help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and
I cant handle
We miss you already and will love you forever, God bless you and keep you. BIG HUGS

If you like motorcycles you will
enjoy visiting Morries Place at 5410
Austin Court in Ringwood IL. It is
like attending and indoor Vintage Bike
Show right on the showroom foor. You
will fnd Nolans, Triumphs, BSAs and a
1988 80 Shovelhead greets you as you
enter the building. For me personally
seeing these bikes under one roof, brings
to mind that the new bikes arent the only
ones to be admired and desired. Youve
got to ride em all at least once if youre really going to have a
favourite a friend once told me. I guess that is what inspired this
editorial on this local treasure house at Morries Place and what will
keep me going back. I want to know more about the vintage bikes,
and I am going to ride one and own one someday.
There is some cool history behind Morrie the original owner and a
story done by Lori (Eds wife) and Buzz Walneck is posted on their
web site at morriesplacecycle.com. Ed and his wife Lori bought the
business in 1993 and three and a half years ago opened the new
building at its new location where their
primary goal is to ... keep old bikes on the
road.
Ed is patient and happy to answer my
questions and show me around the shop.
A friendly, down to earth guy and the shop
offers a welcoming setting with bar stools
up against the counter where I have often
caught the visiting patron ponied up and having a chat with Ed. I
asked Ed if he ever does any clinics for his customers... he smiled
and laughed and said, everyday on the phone.
Motorcycles seem to be a family activity for the Zenders and the
winter doesnt slow them down. Who says the Midwest has a short
motorcycle season... Studs on Ice in Camp Lake, WI is one of the
many snow racing events in the area and that is where you may
fnd Ed and his family in the winter.

I was curious with all these bikes available to
him which one was his favourite... would you
believe he didnt have an answer for me! In
his personal collection Ed has a 600cc Panther,
a 41 Panhead, a 74 Ducati and a 1948 Indian
Chief (shown on the cover with a customers
1951 Vincent Touring Rapide). But Ed insists
he rides the one closest to the door on any
given day and enjoys them all.
There is a saying... We dont know what we
dont know and I want to ride them all or at
least learn more about them.
So if you have a passion for vintage bikes or youre just curious
about them plan a visit to see Ed and his team at Morries Place! If
you cant make it to the shop, Morries Place will be a vendor at the
Vintage Swap Meet in Davenport, IA over Labor Day weekend. Stop
by and say hello!

2011 summer issue of Wisconsin and Illinois Biker Information Guide
Finding things to write about is trying at
times to say the least, especially if you are as
busy as most people working, playing, living,
ya know doing the general bull called life.
Then it came to me. While fghting with yet another aftermarket part
manufactured in some far away land other than the USA. How would
any regular person be able to deal with this crap? I mean, we work
on bikes; its what our job is...its what we know. Then I think of some
poor soul gazing at the shiny parts in some magazine or catalog dream-
in of what that part looks like on their bike. Then they get it off the
delivery truck and it doesnt ft or the chrome is crap or falling off; parts
are missing, etc. It usually ends up in a pile in the garage or basement,
or at a shop like mine with the guy asking a thousand questions on
how to deal with it till they have fnally had enough and either bring it
to me or just give up. They always ask How do you make it work? or
Where do you get your parts? The fact is, there are good parts and
crap parts. Remember, you get what ya pay for. The difference is shops
like ours and other bike shops out there, usually have equipment, i.e.,
welders, mills, lathes, fabrication brakes, benders etc. If it doesnt ft
we can make it ft, or use some of it to make a better part. A deal is
only a deal if you get what you want for what you pay for it. This, nine
out of ten times is not what happens in the world of aftermarket parts.
So the next time youre at a shop and the guy behind the counter
says, I cant sell that part as cheap as the catalog, e-bay or a maga-
zine! try and remember this: Are you gonna be able to make it ft in
your garage if there are parts missing? Or are you going to call the
company and get the run around? Do you have the time to do that
with work, the wife, the kids, the car, the yard, blah, blah, blah and so
on? Probably not!... lol Ya see, theres allot more to a shops job than
just fxin your bike, theres ordering the parts, making sure they ft, and
if they dont, making them ft and work properly, and handling all the
problems so you dont have to. These are all things that a good bike
shop does but you never see. Most people just bring their bike in have
the parts put on pick it up and leave, and hopefully say Good Job!
Now even after you read this little page of mine, you still feel like ven-
turing out into the world of aftermarket parts, have fun, its kinda like
re-inventing the wheel in a way. I have seen people buy a crap part
make it ft do a nice job. Spend countless hours on the computer and
the phone, and then come up with the same end product as me. All I
can say is thats great and more power to ya! But for myself, if I want
some ice cream I wont buy a cow, milk it, spend hours with all the
other crap. I think Id just run down to the store and buy some. They
got people that make that shit... LMAO

There is a great advertisement out there with a teen-
age girl driving her car while on her cell phone, smoking
a cigarette and painting her nails stating Dont Drive
Distracted! The poster is amusing but terribly sad all the
same. Bikers face the challenge of driving with dis-
tracted drivers all the time. Our Brothers and Sisters are
killed or seriously injured every day in this country. 20%
of all injury crashes in 2009 involved reports of distracted driving and of those
killed in these types of accidents, 995 involved reports of a cell phone as a
distraction. The largest group of distracted drivers in this country are younger
than 24! There are three main types of distraction; Visual taking your eyes
off the road, Manual-taking your hands off the wheel and Cognitive-taking
your mind off what you are doing. Of all of these types of distractions Manual
Distraction is the biggest culprit. Texting and talking on the cell phone results
in more accidents and can impair your driving reaction time as if you are intoxi-
cated. Wow! What are we to do to protect ourselves out there on the road? It
is impossible enough to hope that other drivers see us; we have to MAKE other
drivers see us! I have a friend that when approaching an intersection, if he
does not see that drivers face turned towards his direction, he beeps his horn,
revs his engine, anything to let that driver know he is in the area. Of course,
my buddy fipping the driver off for not looking seems to shock the driver into
knowing he is there but, although amusing may not be the best tactic.
ABATE throughout the United States is focused on the safety aspects of our
mission especially with the issue of distracted drivers. Every year local chap-
ters visit schools driver education programs and senior centers and teach
the students or seniors about motorcycles in their area. The most important
lessons we teach them is how to see us and how to avoid us! By talking the
hard facts about cell phone and texting usage, along with graphic images of
the results of their distracted driving, goes a long way in getting the point
across. These Safety and Education Coordinators work tirelessly with schools
and senior citizen centers to reach out and educate the driver. We hand out
fyers, pamphlets, key fobs and now neat little thumb rings that state Texting
Kills all in the effort to get the message across that We Are Out There! Watch
Out For Us!
On the other hand we can talk until we are blue in the
face about distracted driving. But the best defense
is to get involved! Call your local DOT and get Start
Seeing Motorcycles yard signs and posters, spend
some cash and make your own signs, or get involved
with your local ABATE chapter and help out the Safety
and Education coordinators and get into the schools to teach. Everything you
can do will get the message out! I do not want to bury another friend because
someone just didnt see him.

Brotherhood: n. the state of being a brother; a group or
society of people united by a common interest; a fraternity.
Every once and a while I like to see if Webster defnes things
the same as I do. Sometimes I think that one of us should
just write a dictionary for bikers. In the biker dictionary this
word alone could have a few pages dedicated to it. Now, Im
not saying that I disagree with the way Webster defned this
word. I just think it means so much more. Take a little time out and think what it means
to you. Brotherhood is what keeps us going. It is the essence of a bikers soul. In a
volunteer organization like ABATE of Wisconsin, its the glue that binds us and the fuel
that keeps us going. No matter what you ride, or what gender you are, brotherhood is
always there for you. Bikers truly defne brotherhood.
I spend a good amount of my free time attending meetings and events all over the
state. When Im not riding or spending time with my family or working, youll most
often fnd me reading something motorcycle related keeping up to speed with current
legislation and public views about motorcyclists. Sometimes this can get pretty over-
whelming because it seems all too often theres something to be upset about. There
is always somebody with a half-baked theory on how they can keep us all safe, happy
and alive. Unfortunately, all of these theories seem to take away my freedoms. Thanks,
but no thanks. So, just when Im ready to erupt, I remember that Im not alone. There
are almost seven thousand like minded individuals that have the same fears as me.
And thats just the ones that pony up the twenty fve bucks a year to stay informed as
bikers. Who knows how many bikers are out there unaware that there is an organiza-
tion, a brotherhood, that is already fghting for there freedoms every day. Im proud to
be an ABATE of WI member. That is enough to keep my sanity. Just knowing that Im
not alone and that someones got my back. If youre not familiar with ABATE of WI,
next time you see someone wearing ABATE clothing go up and ask what were about,
we wont bite. When were not having fun weve got our heads buried in legislative and
safety issues and help the politically motivated motorcyclist preserve the freedoms we
enjoy. ABATE of WI is not a club, is not limited to HD riders, and is about a lot more
than just helmet laws. This year weve sent our legislative team to Madison to lobby for
motorcycle safety funds in the state budget and to promote our enhanced penalties for
irresponsible inattentive drivers that kill and injure motorcyclists. We also are the main
provider of motorcycle awareness information in Wisconsin.
As the summer comes into full swing and there is more to do than you can
ever possibly make time for, try to take some time to visit an ABATE event. Take a few
friends along and enjoy the ride. Whether its for a party or a meeting, take the time to
introduce yourself to someone new. If youd like to fnd out more about ABATE of WI or
would like to join, please go to our website at www.abatewis.org or call 715-284-7415.
Find out what brotherhood is all about. Hope you enjoy your summer. Try to remember
those that fought so hard to build this nation and give us the freedoms that we too
often take for granted. And, resolve to hold onto the freedoms we still enjoy. Until next

staff column
I love food. But better than anything I could ever make in the kitchen, I
make great reservations. The nice thing about riding out to discover great
food is that you rarely need to make reservations. Which is good because we
never know where were going... well not always! And there will always be
someone who can make a dish better than me. So the column and the adven-
ture continues and I will continue to report my adventures here.
Sobelmans - 414-931-1919 milwaukeebestburgers.com
Milwaukees Best Burgers in the heart of Milwaukees Menomonee River Valley
at 1900 West St. Paul Ave., is worth the ride or the drive for a great burger and
a unique experience. Just minutes from the Harley Davidson Museum and the
Iron Horse Hotel where the Thursday Night Bike Nights are in full
swing during these summer months. Im highly recommending
this as a destination for those of you who Live to Ride and Ride to
Eat. Dave and Melissa Sobelman have put a great deal into the
atmosphere of this unique building which was originally a Schiltz
Brew house back in the day. Its easy to get to and offers plenty
of street parking. And their burgers.. Oh
yeah! I had their signature Sobelman Burger
which has cheddar, swiss and american cheeses, bacon,
fried onions and diced jalapenos... yummy! The staff was
friendly and busy attenting the the many patrons attending
a regularly scheduled Biker Sunday (which on this particular
Sunday donated $1 of every burger to ABATE of Wisconsin,
a motorcycle rights organization. Way to go Sobelmans!) Bathrooms are clean
and there is seating inside or out. It was my frst of many visits to Sobelmans
but there is much to see on the ride into the Valley and when I go back, and
I will. I will defnately be stopping in again.
Captain Mikes 262-658-2278 mikelikesbeer.com
- 5118 6th Ave., Kenosha, WI. Close to the lake front and across from the
Best Western Hotel. Our ride to Captain Mikes was a lunch ride (and we were
hungry) so in addition to the monster stuffed burgers we indulged in a Garlic
and Egg French Fries appetiser which was amazing. The experience was fun
and unique. Ordering is somewhat self serve in that you each receive a menu
which you complete by selecting your bun, the type of beef, the style or theme
of burger, additional toppings, sides and more. Than you turn in your order at
the bar which has a very large an unique selection of tap brews as well as a
full bar. (offcially... dont drink and ride) There are so many options I cant
begin to explain everything we had delivered to the table that day. But trust
me. Its worth the trip. Tell them we said hi!
Well be discovering Door County, Madison, Janesville, Savanna, Chicago and
Rockford and many of the roads inbetween.

Custom Painted Vehicles
Its a beautiful sunny day, and youve just pulled into your favorite
stop for a quick lunch. Regretfully, the pavement is hot and soft, and it
only took a few minutes before the kickstand began sinking into the hot
asphalt. Its an awful feeling as you return to fnd the bike lying on the
ground, wondering how extensive the damage might be. Unfortunately,
an occasional dent, ding or scratch is part of owning a bike, even if youre
careful.
When your next ride takes you to the various biker gatherings this sum-
mer, theres no doubt youll see the creative work of the Wright family.
For over 35 years, Jay Wright, his wife Donna,
and their son Steve have owned and operated
Custom Painted Vehicles (CPV), located on
I-94 in Racine, Wi. From television Illusion-
ist, Criss Angels custom Hummer, to legendary
rock band, CHEAP TRICKs music-themed show
vehicle, the team at CPV has painted some of
the wildest and most attention-getting vehicles
on the planet. Often, local motorcycle events
can seem like a CPV showcase, with custom
airbrushed fames, murals, graphics, and specialty colors adorning many
of the bikes.
Best known for this type of custom work, most bikers are surprised to
learn that CPV has become one of the premier motorcycle repair centers
in the Midwest. This is not your typical paint shop! Their color-matching
experience and repair capabilities have attracted customers from all over
the country. This type of work becomes evident when you visit the CPV
facility, with shelves full of repaired fenders,
fuel tanks, and various bike parts ready and
waiting to be shipped or for customers to pick-
up. Over the years, CPV has enjoyed opportu-
nities to work with manufac-
turers like Harley Davidson
on special projects. These
opportunities have provided
them with frst-hand knowl-
edge of the various sunburst and specialty colors used
by Harley, which can be a paint-matching nightmare
for less experienced painters. Although its more fun
to talk about custom painted fames and fashy paint
treatments, its nice to know that if youve dented,
scratched or scraped your bike, theres a top-notch, lo-
cal solution. For more information, and examples of their custom work,
visit the NEW CPV web site, at: www.CPVehicles.com

Parts Tip:
You want to put what.... where?
Ron Oslon & Bones
When doing a bike build you may be looking to swap out
forks, wheels , shocks or...........
There is no master list for bikes stating what parts will
interchange. With the explosion of the web there are many forums discussing
the interchange of parts. The best way to fnd out about what may work for you
is on the forums, you will be able to gain from the knowledge and experience
that others have gained from trial and error.
On rims the trend is to change from cast wheels to spoked wheels, and larger
diameters in the front. Some model bike offered both cast
and spoked wheels in the same year, for those of you
lucky enough to have picked one of these for your project
conversion will be easy, you may still need to change over
brake rotors even though they where in the same model
year. To change over other rims you will need to measure
the axle diameter, hub with, rim diameter and rim with,
then start the long journey of comparing. You can also go
to a cycle parts store and ask to look at the cycle reference
sheets which list the wheel, chain and sprocket sizes for
99% of Japanese cycles, this will give you a list of bikes
which will have the wheel size you are looking for then you
will need to compare axle size and hub width.
When you are changing out your rear wheel the sprocket on the wheel will
most likely not match the drive sprocket on the motor. If you know the inner
sprocket diameter, the diameter and number of bolts holding the sprocket to
the hub, the bolt circle diameter, number of teeth you want and the size of the
chain you will be using with the motor a special sprocket can be made to work
with your new rear wheel and your motor at about twice the cost of a standard
sprocket.
When you are changing out the front forks you can go
after the complete assembly with triple trees and steering
stem in which case you need to compare steering stem size
to fnd your match which is a long process. If you are looking
to change out the fork tubes you can start by looking at fork
seals in parts books to make a list forks that have the same
seal size as yours, they would have the best chance of ftting
in your triple trees.
Shocks are much easier to swap out, you may be looking to
convert from air shocks to coil over shocks for the old school
look. You will need the distance between the bolts holding the
shock to the bike and the mounting style of the shock.
You can fsh on the forums for the answers you are looking for or bring your
ideas, sketches and old parts to a place like Milwaukee Cycle where we have
23,000 sq ft of parts and you are able to compare and measure to get the right
parts.
Milwaukee Cycle has been serving bikers since 1987. We are under new own-
ership, listening to our customers and bringing to the store what they are asking
for. We invite you to come in and help shape the riders store.

Dales Diatribe:
Ive shaken hands with the Devil...
and I think I liked it!
TEST RIDE : 2011 Ducati Diavel Carbon
Dale Lumovic, President, DRILL
How do you begin to explain something,
when all youre able to do is smile widely and
stammer adjectives about something that
makes absolutely little sense. Ducati? Makes a cruiser? Do they even
know how to do that? Dont those guys only know how to make World
Superbike winning championship Italian rice rockets and thats all???
I know that many of you will read this and say to yourselves, this is
blasphemy! Oh no my friends, Im talking about me taking a step closer
to loving something that I never believed could be possible, enjoying a
sport cruiser more than any Superbike Ive ever ridden before this time.
Last week after speaking to our local editor/publisher, Jennifer Knourek,
about what I should write about in this issue of WIBIG. She said, What
about that new Ducati Diavel? Why dont you do a road test and write
about it? Instantly a light bulb glowed brightly above my coconut. Yeah,
I thought to myself. Why didnt I think of that? Yet another reason we
have brilliant ladies in our lives, to remind us to do something we havent
considered before. So I ask you to consider this: Ducati is making a bike
to make the Fat Boy, the V-Rod and even the V-Max riders look over their
shoulders at what these creative Italian decided to produce. I told you it
might sound like blasphemy, but keep reading, trust me it gets better.
Many of you attended the Chicago International Motorcycle Show and
perhaps drifted into the Ducati display
to see what these Italians are able to
produce, just for curiosity sake and
perhaps saw this beast resting in the
corner. I did too, but for the fact that
Im a motorcycle fanatic, although
Ducatis have only really intoxicated
me for the past ten years or so. This
year Ducati chose to go in a complete-
ly new direction with something that
they have never done before, create
a sport cruiser that set a benchmark
that has not been done before. Pro-
duce a motorcycle that has the riding
dynamics of a Sportbike, the looks of
a American muscle bike and the power
that only a huge V-twin can produce.
After about 150 miles of saddle time
I think that they not only hit the
mark, they destroyed the bench-
mark they wanted to eclipse.
Diavel is Italian for Devil, the name
that a Ducati engineer upon see-
ing the prototype for the frst time
spoke under his breath when it was
presented internally to the design
and engineering group at Ducatis
factory in Bologna Italy. While standing with gaping mouths if front of
something that looked nothing like that the company is used to manu-
facturing, he said, it looks like something Demonic, like the Devil.
Ducatis designers came up with the concept as a styling exercise and
when Ducatis CEO, Gabriele Del Torchio witnessed it he told the entire
team, Its beautiful, make it!
What they produced was a 1198cc demon of an engine generating a
choice of 100, 142 or up to 162 horsepower controlled by switch that
selects electronic engine mapping selectable by a trigger on the handle-
bar cluster. Hugged by a trademark Ducati trellis steel tube frame sur-
rounding the engine, bridging massive 50mm forks, and a huge single
sided aluminum swing arm cupping a 240mm rear tire. 240mm is a
massive tire for a bike that handles with the precision and prowess this
motorcycle does and doesnt trip over its 456 lbs as it might have you
believe. Comparing it to many sport cruisers its a feather weight.
This is not something you see frequently on a production bike that has
the ability to turn corners with great confdence and swap lanes on the
highway the way this machine does. With an upright riding position
that is gentler to the spine than sport
bikes are, and the ability to lug gently
around town or head up to the sce-
nic back roads in Wisconsin that have
more curves than straights surprised
me like I never thought I would be.
I rode about 350 miles over a weeks
time and never stopped grinning until
my time in the saddle was over. The
saddle is deeply dished and a offers a
sweet spot that is a comfortable spot
to watch the world go by with riser
bars that are comfortable for the arms
and shoulders. The wide gas tank
holds 5.3 gallons that took about 125
miles of spirited (ahem) riding before
the reserve light came on warning me

that it was time to fll it up once again. Riding it the way it was meant
to be ridden its hard to imagine getting more than 175 miles from the
tank until its time to fll up again.
The version I rode is called the Diavel Carbon, with a
carbon fber tank cover airbox intake trumpets, side
covers, front fender and rear seat cover. It looks like
something thats hard to imagine not coming from
Milwaukee, and the rumble from it 90 deg. V-twin is
something that stirs the soul, particularly when you
twist your wrist harder and your behind slides hard
backwards in the saddle. Thank god for that deep
saddle. When it comes time to stop the Brembo Monobloc front brakes
have an anti-lock circuit to control losing control of the
front end in the rain or on surfaces with less than optimal
grip.
It has the heart of a superbike with an engine devel-
oped specially for this motorcycle. Its a de-tuned ver-
sion of the 1198 Superbike engine with a 11 deg overlap
in the valve timing versus the 17deg. of the superbike
engine. Making it more of a mellow power curve rather
that the brutal thrust of the Superbike. Ducati calls it
mellow; I call it ride-able. It was as much fun cruising gently, as ripping
around on it like a dirt tracker at the Springfeld mile. It did it all too well.
My friends found it odd to see me on it and thoroughly enjoying the Diavel
so much, being used to seeing me on nothing other than the polar oppo-
sites, a Superbike or a dirt bike. They teased that I must be showing my
age, late 40s, but I say oh no. I have no concern what youre age, youll
fnd something to adore and intoxicate you about this motorcycle. I love all
bikes, but this one has truly stirred my soul.
You may not think this is possible, but I want to encourage you to visit a
Ducati dealer and take one for a demo ride, because you too will be foored
as I am still picking myself off that very same foor. Want to shake hands
with the Devil? Go visit a dealer and ask for Mr. Diavel, and prepare for an
exorcism.
Id like to a offer special thanks to Pewaukee Wisconsins own, Ducati
Milwaukee and its owner Joe Meinerz and his staff for contributing their
Diavel for me to complete this road test and review. Ducati Milwaukee
is located about 25 minutes west of downtown Milwaukee just south
of I-94 at the Grandview Rd.exit. Theyre located at 2204 Silvernail Rd.
Pewaukee WI 54072, 262 408-5660. Visit Joe and his staff for some of
the best service in the Midwest regardless what you ride, and in-depth
knowledge about the Diavel and many other Ducatis.
