Lesson Planning Waynesburg University Writing the lesson plan: Translating thoughts into a plan of action _____________________________________________

Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s) addressed during this lesson: (Provide Standard number and statement) Mathematics 2.1.5.G. Develop and apply number theory concepts (e.g., primes, factors, multiples, composites) to represent numbers in various ways. Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening 1.4.7.B. Write multi-paragraph informational pieces(e.g., letters, descriptions, reports, instructions, essays, articles, interviews) Use relevant graphics (e.g., maps, charts, graphs, tables, illustrations, photographs). Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. Lesson Objective(s) (Stated in observable and measurable terms) Students will be able to create a Photostory 3 to depict the Ladder Method to find the LCM, GCF, or simplified fractions of any two numbers. Students will successfully create a Photostory 3 with 80% compliance to the rubric. Assessment Plan (What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?) Students will be Use the rubric as a checklist for completion. Students will give peer reviews for other students Photostory Projects. Students will be to upload their Photostory to the class web site. Materials: The students will need their books, folders, notebooks, pencils, Sieve of Eratosthenes Packet, Photostory 3 software, and computer. Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs: The lesson will initially be presented in the inclusion room with teacher modeling. Then all students will have hands-on in the computer room as well as the students with special needs will be able to use the resource room or attend the After Math tutoring sessions. Enrichment Techniques: The lesson will initially be presented in the inclusion math room. Then the students who need enrichment will be able to work more independently. Students may be required to complete the project for both LCM and GCF.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able to participate in the lesson): Students will have access to their packet: the Sieve of Eratosthenes, the notes from the lecture, and their peers. Students who still have trouble will be able to work with peer tutors or come for extra computer time. Students will be able to ask any of the adults in the room after they: Ask three before me. Students will have time in the resource room or after school computer sessions if needed. Students will have an opportunity to work with their peer tutors.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: Today we are going to use Photostory to illustrate the Ladder Method. We will use our knowledge of Prime Numbers to find the Least Common Multiple (LCM); the Greatest Common Factor (GCF); and to simplify fractions. Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

Students will review the Ladder Method from their notes. Students will list the slides for their Photostory. Students will watch the teacher create a Photostory shell. Students will watch the teacher create a few of the slides and add narration. Teacher will show an example of a finished Photostory Project.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

Closure:

Students will create a Photostory shell. Students will add all necessary text and graphics to each slide. Students will add narration to each slide. Students will ask at least three peers for constructive criticism. Students will upload their Photostory to the class web site.

Students will be able to use describe the steps they took to create their Photostory Project. Students will be to upload their Photostory to the class web site and access the Photostory Projects of their peers.
