Praise and Prayer

Pray for laborers for the
University of Newcastle (both short and long term)

LABORERS FOR THE HARVEST

The Current Reality Next years missionary team is uncertain. My 2 year commitment at Newcastle is nearing an end, and at the moment Nick our faithful Aussie leader is the only one committed here for 2012. Newcastle Student Lifes partner, the Greater Northwest Region of Campus Crusade, is strapped for laborers itself and no one has raised their hand for Newcastle. Given this reality, Newcastle Student Lifes future is uncertain. What began at the University of Newcastle in 2007 with a US Summer Project, consisting of staff and students from the US, was a vision for Newcastle of a spiritual movement where everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. In 2009 the first full missionary team consisting of 2 Aussies and 3 Americans began establishing a movement of multiplying disciples at Newcastle uni. 2010 saw Newcastle invaded with 3 more Americans, and in 2011 we are 1 Aussie and 4 Americans. We have 5 student leaders and approximately 15 involved students and up to 47 students regularly impacted in some way by Student Life. There are over 17,000 students on campus, and by our best guess, 200-300 who truly follow Jesus. (In my opinion that is a liberal estimate). We estimate that an average student knows about 10 people on campus they can influence. That means that 2000-3000 people (once again a very liberal estimate), that know someone who truly follows Jesus and about 15,000 students who do not know someone who truly follows Jesus. We are a long ways from our vision becoming reality. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2 Please ask the Lord of the Harvest to send laborers to Newcastle. This is our biggest prayer request for the next 5 months. Pray that God would raise up temporary workers from the US and for long-term laborers from Newcastle to reach students at Newcastle. Pray that our current students would catch the vision while they are here at uni, that they are Gods workers first, and uni students 2nd. Our Mid-Year Conference (MYC July 11-16) is a great place for this, so please pray for that conference as well.

Praise God for Ben deciding to join the team next year; pray for his future

Pray for at least 10 students to come to MYC July 10-15

Continue to pray for Peter

to continue coming closer to believing in God and one day accept Jesus as Lord

ONE SUCH LABORER

Where am I? In the midst of the need God is already beginning to answer that prayer. One of our Movement Builders, Ben (picture on right), has decided to forego his plans and join in what he feels are Gods plans for his lifethat isto join the missionary team next year! I have had the privilege of meeting with Ben every week this semester to help him learn how to share his faith in a more relational way. Ben is exactly the type of laborer we hope God sends. He grew up in Newcastle and will be graduating at the end of the year from the University of Newcastle. Student Life began in 2007 and will hopefully produce its first native laborer in 2012! Please pray for Ben as he finishes his uni career as a student teacher and while he fills out the application and makes other important decisions.
