Living the Lectionary 2nd Sunday After Pentecost

Season: Pentecost Week of June 26th Gods People

About the Season: The season of Pentecost is a season of being given the gifts of God for the purpose of living out His mission on earth as His Body. Its color, green, implies the growth of the Church both personally and as a Body through the work of the Holy Spirit. About this Sunday: Our readings on this Sunday deal with the empowerment that God gives to His people. God not only saves us from our sins, but gives us a place in the great and glorious work of His

Kingdoms coming on earth. The Church is not only a hospital for the sick, but a training center for medics who have once been sick themselves. Reflecting on the Readings: Jeremiah 28:5-9 Words of Gods People Gods people are called to speak Gods words prophetically, not to just say what people want to hear. Here, the people want to hear words of peace, but Jeremiah can only prophesy disaster. What words of God are tough for you to deliver? Psalm 89 The Joy of Gods People The psalmist rejoices in the steadfast love of God which we know is always there for His people. How do you show your joy over Gods ever present love for you? Romans 6:12-23 The Work of Gods People Paul explains that the work of Gods people, by the power of the Spirit, is sanctification being made holy through sinning less and doing more good. How are you doing as a worker? Matthew 10:40-42 The Ambassadorship of Gods People Jesus promises His people that wherever we go, we are acting as His representatives and that those who welcome us welcome Him. To whom do you see yourself as Gods ambassador? Law and Gospel: Law: Gods people are called for a purpose in this world, to love our God and to love our neighbors. As much as we might like our calling to be self-serving, its not. Only immature and wicked people serve only themselves. Gospel: Our sins are forgiven. This is the beginning and the most necessary part of the Gospel, but God adds to the richness of our

Gospel filled lives as He gives us responsibility and empowerment in His Kingdoms work. Living the Lectionary Ideas: Learn: What the word vocation means when used in a theological sense. Lutheran theology gives each Christians vocation a prominent role. Do: Welcome or encourage another person from this congregation who you feel is doing Gods work. Live: Embrace your ambassadorship this week. Seek out opportunities to speak and work on behalf of God and His people. Prayers to Consider Thanksgiving for the ordination of Pastor Mark Adrian Thanksgiving for years of life for Mary Hafner, Catherine Knickerbocker, and David Buenrostro.
