BIKE TO WORK DAY VOLUNTEERS Staff circulates final sign-up sheet for any revisions, shirt sizes, etc. EL CAMINO BUS RAPID TRANSIT (BRT VTA PRESENTATION) -City Staff has attended on-going meetings with the VTA, Council Study Session on 6/20/11. There are two options; a dedicated median lanes, or mixed flow. The early concept plan from San Jose to Mountain (to Showers) would include 4 regular vehicle lanes and 2 dedicated BRT lanes in the median, then switch to mixed flow travel lanes within Palo Alto (final configuration still to be determined). Anticipate 30% reduction in travel time compared to local bus routes. PA has a lesser need for dedicated median lanes due to estimated ridership, congestion, and being the terminus of the route. -Questions from PABAC members: what types of bike capacities? On Board? Front load racks only? The busses would have at a minimum 2 racks. On-board bike hangers are possible at the expense of seating capacity. Longer term plans to possibly extend into San Mateo County, but not included in the current project. The existing 522 VTA lane will become the BRT line. SAN ANTONIO ROAD MOUNTAIN VIEW CONNECTION IN BIKE PLAN AND SAN ANTONIO SHOPPING CTR EIR Bruce England from City of Mountain View BPAC describes issues with the proposed San Antonio Shopping Center project. The project does not include bike lanes on San Antonio, but instead a wider bike/ped mixed-flow path on the sidewalk. MV Council-transportation committee did not approve the BPACs request which is leading to the further outreach and advocacy. Asking for

6.

PABACs support of the MV BPAC. Without a quorum, the Palo Alto PABAC cannot approve a motion to support as a group, but the members in attendance would provide a letter on their behalf in support of bike lanes on San Antonio, and improved access and connection to Palo Alto. Members reference a study done in Palo Alto for bikes on shared sidewalks, and showed that this was more dangerous due to wrong-way riding with driveways, etc. 7. BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN TRANSPORTATION PLAN a. Administrative Draft Report An Ad-Draft report will be sent to City Staff in a couple of weeks. Draft for public review would be ready by mid-July.. b. Discussion of Proposed Bicycle Network:
Missing Across Barrier Connections at San Antonio/Charleston Andrew Boone has concerns regarding projects that were in the 2003 plan, but are now removed. Response is that some projects were removed because of realistic feasibility, community input (or lack of), and may still be covered in general policies and city-wide upgrades Spreadsheet includes highest of priority projects. Map also includes some projects that are not as high of a priority as those on the spreadsheet. General policy and improvements intended to cover lower priority projects Alta would like input and comments for the spreadsheet from PABAC and Staff Other Suggested projects not identified include: Terman Path connection 101 Oregon Bridge improvements Charleston / Fabian connection to Mountain View California Avenue Tunnel improvements Colorado at Middlefield Alma Street Oregon Expressway to Mountain View Future discussion with major changes desired.
