Key Responsibilities included providing generic and mental health social work ranging from probation work, casework, group and family therapy and community work/community development.

RESUME OF WORK EXPERIENCE AND EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Dr Maforah has a long history of lecturing, research promotion and supervision for Honours, Masters and Doctoral Students; as well as training, education and development in a variety of fields. She is currently a part-time lecturer at University of the North West. In her early years in the Social and Mental Health field, Dr Maforah worked and trained in the following sectors: research, substance abuse, family and gender issues, child care and recently HIV and AIDS, among others. She was the principal founder of the

Ipelegeng Child and Family Centre attached to the University of North West where she coached and mentored under and post graduate Social Work and Psychology students.

As a Senior Researcher for the Medical Research Council in Cape Town, Dr Maforah did extensive research in Urbanisation and Health, Poverty, Development, Womens Health and Gender issues. She has had wide exposure as a university lecturer (University of Cape Town and University of the North West). She has travelled extensively abroad as a visiting research fellow. She has delivered papers at local and international seminars and conferences since 1985. She joined the public sector in 1994 and served in the senior

management echelon for 6 years where she led many overseas delegations on womens issues, poverty and development. During this period, she was part of task teams which pioneered major transformation processes in this country; among these, the

championing of a number of development strategies, models and programmes which informed social development and integrated rural development programmes in the country.

Dr Maforah has been consulting in social development and broad development management interventions for the past nine years with a wide range of clients in both the public and private sectors. As a born and bred South African, she has thorough knowledge of the Country and its Provinces; speaks and understands most local languages and cultural idioms. She is the author and co-author of numerous journal articles as well as technical reports; and serves in a number of professional national and international bodies. To name a few: The SA Epidemiological Association, the Association for Women in Development, the National Womens Network and the Harvard Business School Alumni.

She has presented papers and made presentations at a number of national and international research conferences and seminars. Examples of these include: visiting research fellow at a Womens health Course at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (1993); visiting lecturer at the Epidemiological Research methods at Umea University in Sweden (1994); Womens health conference, KEMRI, Nairobi (1995); Abortion matters, Amsterdam: The Netherlands (1997).

Dr Maforah has been consulting for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on HIV/AIDS programmes [Leadership Development Programme (LDR) and Community Capacity Enhancement Programme (CCEP)] since 2005; and has to date been involved in the regional training-of-trainers programme in this regard. She has completed her recent mission with the UNDP in April 2010: The most recent assignment was the Lesotho Mission on Skills Refinement on CCEP involving fifty-four Trainers and Facilitators drawn from both the public and private sectors including civil society representing the three

district municipalities where CCEP is being implemented.

As part of the core implementation team, Dr Maforah initiated and implemented the Community Capacity Programme for the United Nations in South Africa (three Provinces: KZN, Limpopo, Eastern Cape), Botswana and Lesotho. She is also a regional consultant for Salvation Army Welfare Organisation (SWASO), a Washington-based Organisation and has successfully implemented their training of trainers programme in two countries: Zambia and Uganda. To this end, her work has exposed her to development and practice of social development models and interventions in the region and internationally from highly scientific to the more community-based participatory facilitation programmes.

Dr Maforah is an accredited facilitator, assessor and moderator with Services Seta; and has demonstrated commitment to the promotion of Skills Development and the NSF principles and policies for the betterment of the lives of historically disadvantaged individuals and communities in particular women and children.
