Processing data. After the file copying is completed, the setup program starts processing the data of the BAM. a. Create database files. Log in to the SQL Server 2000 of the current version with the account sa and create database files. If the files are successfully created, the following files listed in Table 1 exist on the BAM hard disks. Table 1 Storage positions of database files Database Alarm Alarm Bam Bam Log File Type Data file Log file Data file Log file Data file Default Location D:\MSSQL\Data\Alarm_Data.MDF E:\MSSQL\Data\Alarm_Log.LDF D:\MSSQL\Data\Bam_Data.MDF E:\MSSQL\Data\Bam_Log.LDF D:\MSSQL\Data\Log_Data.MDF

b. Initialize the database. The setup program initializes the database and processes the initial data in the database. Depending on the database capacity and the efficiency of the server, this process may take some time, from several minutes to tens of minutes. c. Check the SQL Server database. CAUTION: The attributes of the database are critical for execution of the program. Therefore, do not change them unless it is required. After the BAM database is initialized, the following databases exist in the SQL Server:

Alarm: used by the alarm process Bam: used by the host database Stats: used by the traffic measurement process XSman: used by the monitoring process

Each of them is created in its database file, and the attribute of each database has been correctly set. Among them, auto create statistics and auto update statistics are set to TRUE, and the others are set to FALSE. 5 Update the environment. After processing data, the system registers the information used by the BAM to the Windows 2000 Server, for example:
o o o

Adding environmental variables Setting the auto-run characteristic for the program Creating or updating the program folders
