11. (a) Discuss the different arrangement of burners in a pulverized coal fired furnace. (b) Explain with a sketch of direct firing system and its merits. (or) 12. What are the different methods of controlling the superheat temperature of steam? Explain any two with suitable sketch. 13. (a) What are the different types of condensers? Explain with suitable sketch of surface condenser. (b) Write a short note on equivalent evaporation. (or) 14. A steam power plant works between 40bar and 0.05bar. If the steam supplied is dry saturated and the cycle of operation is Rankine, Find (a) Cycle efficiency (b) Specific steam consumption. 15. Air enters at 1 bar and 15C into the compressor of a constant pressure open cycle gas turbine plant and leaves to compressor at 6 bar. Temperature of the gases entering the turbine = 700C Pressure loss in the combustion chamber = 0.1bar. Compressor efficiency = 80% Turbine efficiency = 75% Combustion efficiency = 90% Find (a) Heat supplied per kg of air circulation (b) Thermal efficiency of the cycle. Take gama = 1.4, Cp = 1kJ/kg K for air and gas. (or) 16. (a) Distinguish between fission and fusion reaction. (b) Explain with a neat sketch of pumped storage plant, what are its advantages.
