Have an emergency come up? Have an invitation to have lunch with friends you havent seen in months? Then the Forum is just your place. Finally, someone you can trust your loved ones with when you need a little time awaytheyll take care of your loved ones needs, while you get some needed time! If you are a caregiver for your parents/adult special needs children, you know its a 24/7/365 undertaking you have lovingly taken on. The Forum is here to support you! Melinda has many years of experience caring for others. She is CPR certified, and most importantly, loves seniors and special needs people. Both Matthew and Melinda are available to answer any of your questions and look forward to helping the community meet the growing demands of full-time care giving for their family members. Today when most families need two incomes to get by the cost of nursing homes and/or home care can be too much. There has been much research and prayer about how much to charge for their services. They feel that they have found a price that families can afford. It is really a service to help the community families , that is the main goal, so The Forums costs are very fair when comparing similar area centers. There will be a continental breakfast, a larger meal at noon and a light supper. Snacks and drinks will also be provided. The individual dietary needs of each guest will be considered, with choices available as substitutions. Medications will be monitored, with reminders if needed. Safety will be the number one concern, with the guests being lovingly supervised. Please call the Forum for more information, and to make an appointment for your loved one. 989 287-2998. Matthew and Melinda look forward to helping you, the caregiver, when you need some extra help.

ue showing their animals through Saturday, July 9th. Monday evening at 6p.m is the Natural Horsemanship show. Some people call the event The Horse Whispering Show. The horses are put through an obstacle course with the trainer using only a long lead line and verbal cues to get the horse to go through the obstacles. The carnival will be in place by the evening of Tuesday, July 5th. Ride all day wristbands will be only $10 everyday. The fair board worked out this deal with the carnival as a way to help celebrate the New Fair Grounds.
The Poormans Tractor Pullers from the Cedar Springs area will be in the grand stand Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. It is amazing to see what can be done with a souped up garden tractor. Kids Day games and giveaways start at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning and run through 2 p.m. Dynamite the Clown and a magician will be on hand to entertain the children. Thursday evening brings the annual 4H and FFA Livestock Auction at 5 p.m. Several hundred area businesses and individuals usually attend this annual event to support the hours of work the 4Hers have put into their livestock projects.
The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.

We're pleased to present to you this year's Annual Water Quality Report. The purpose of this report is to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. Our water source is ground water from glacial material. The Village of Howard City has three operating wells; the primary well is located on North Orton Street in the Village. There are two backup wells located within the Emory Street ball eld. We want you to understand the efforts we make to maintain and improve the system by which you receive your water and steps put forth to protect our valuable water resources. The State performed an assessment of our source water in 2004 (currently looking at update) to determine the susceptibility or the relative potential of contamination. The susceptibility rating is a six-tiered scale from very-low" to" high" based primarily on the geologic sensitivity, water chemistry and contaminants sources. The susceptibility of our source is low for our primary well and moderate for the two backup wells. A copy of the report is available at the Village Ofce. The Village of Howard City routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminates in water provided by public water system. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations establish limits for contaminations in bottled water, which must provide the same protection for public health. This table shows the results of our monitoring for the period of January 1st to December 31st, 2010. As water travels over the land or underground, it can pick up substances or contaminants such as microbes, inorganic and organic chemicals, and radioactive substances. All drinking water, including bottled drinking water, may be reasonably expected to contain at least small amounts of some constituents. It's important to remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk. Our drinking water meets or exceeds federal and state requirements. In the table below you will nd many terms and abbreviations you might not be familiar with. To help you better understand these terms we've provided the following denitions: Not Detected (ND) - laboratory analysis indicates that the constituent is not present. Parts per million (ppm) or Milligrams per liter (mg/l) - one part per million corresponds to one minute in two years or a single penny in $10,000. Parts per billion (ppb) one part per billion corresponds to one minute in 2,000 years or a single penny in $10,000,000 (10 million). Maximum Contaminant Level - The Maximum Allowed (MCL) is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology. Maximum Contaminant Level Goal - The Goal(MCLG) is the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety. Turbidity- Having sediment or foreign particles stirred up or suspended; muddy. Running annual average- RAA- Average over 12 month period. Maximum residual disinfectant level MRDL means the highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants. Maximum residual disinfectant level goal- MRDLG means the level of a drinking water disinfectant below, which there is, no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reect the benets of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contaminants. Total Trihalomethanes TTHM are a byproduct of chlorinating water that contains natural organics. Haloacetic Acids HAA5 are a byproduct of chlorinating water that contains natural organics. Regulatory Action Level - AL The concentration of a contaminant, which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements, which a water system must follow. The State allows us to monitor for certain contaminants less than once per year because the Concentrations of these contaminants are not expected to vary signicantly from year to year. All of the data is representative of the water quality, but some are more than one year old. The table below represents the most current testing information available. Lead Contaminants If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. The Village of Howard City is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by ushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead. WATER QUALITY DATA TABLE The following table is data of the water that was being supplied for the time period of this report it is not representative of the current water supply
2010 Water Quality Report For the Village of Howard City Providing you Quality on Tap June 27, 2011
** Regulated at customer tap Unregulated contaminants are those for which the EPA has not established drinking water standards. Monitoring helps EPA to determine where these contaminants occur and whether it needs to regulate those contaminants What does this mean? As you can see by the table, our system had no violations. Were proud that your drinking water meets or exceeds all Federal and State requirements. We have learned through our monitoring and testing that some constituents have been detected. The EPA has determined that your water IS SAFE at these levels. All sources of drinking water are subject to potential contamination by substances that are naturally occurring or man made. These substances can be: Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations and wildlife. Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally-occurring or result from urban storm water runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining or farming. Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture and residential uses. Radioactive contaminants, which are naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities. Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can, also come from gas stations, urban storm water runoff, and septic systems. All drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agencys Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791. MCLs are set at very stringent levels. To understand the possible health effects described for many regulated constituents, a person would have to drink 2 liters of water every day at the MCL level for a lifetime to have a one-in-a-million chance of having the described health effect. Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immune-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791). We at the Village of Howard City work around the clock to provide top QUALITY ON TAP. We ask that all our customers help us protect our water sources, which are the heart of our community, our way of life and our childrens future. Because of the age of some of the system we do from time to time experience some turbidity or aesthetic problems with our water, which are totally harmless. We have a ushing program in place to keep this to a minimum. If you do experience brown or milky looking water situation please contact the ofce so we can record the problem, and instruct you on what to do. We continue to improve our system, which is sometimes reected as rate structure adjustments. Thank you for understanding. We encourage public interest and participation in our decisions affecting the communitys drinking water. Regular Village council meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month in the Municipal Complex council meeting room at 7:00 PM. The public is welcome. The Village of Howard City employs two state certied operators to whom you may direct any questions. rates on everything from car loans to home mortgages. That is assuming that you would qualify at all.
2. Employment Many companies will run a credit report on you before they will hire
you, especially banks, retail stores or anywhere else that involves cash transactions. These companies view someone with bad credit as being at a higher risk of theft or fraud.
3. Home & Auto Insurance Almost every insurance company will check your credit. You will be charged higher premiums if your credit is bad because they see you as more of a risk for insurance fraud.

I have received my basic shots here at the shelter and unless I am claimed by my old owner, my adoption date is June 24th. Come and meet me and get to know me. ID# 11/06/34.

Your Living Room On Wheels
By Craig W. Armstrong

We have all been there-with a friend or a coworker, possibly even the boss. You have to go somewhere and they want to drive. You open the passenger door and you cant even sit down. You assume there is a seat under the fast food bags, the empty coffee cups, books, papers from work, some old mail, an ice scraper, gum wrappers, kids toys, some CDs and... youre not sure but is that a can of aerosol cheese? Their comment is always the same: Just throw that stuff in the back. Obviously these drivers need help in keeping their cars interior clean. In an extreme case they could start with a shovel, but there are steps we can all heed to take care of the inside of our cars.
Like keeping your home clean, vigilance is the key. Clean out your car once a week. If you
Youre going to have stuff from work and for work. The key here is organization. If you dont have a briefcase or other handled bag, get one. Use folders, binders, manila envelopes... whatever it takes. You may not have time to le everything the moment you get it or need to use it,
Two culprits of a cluttered interior are kids and your job. Your little ones are so cute and sweet, making those adorable comments from the backseat that youll later post on Facebook. But lets face it; most of these little angels can be pigs. Its just part of being a kid, but no less annoying. The best way to keep kids from cluttering the car is by providing a garbage container. Either buy one or have the kids make one by decorating a goodsized canvas bag. (This might even give them a feeling of ownership and a desire to use it.)
spend any time in your car you are going to accumulate stuff during the course of a week. To keep these items from taking over the interior, you can throw them away, organize them in the car or move them out of the car.
Keeping your cars interior clean is a worthwhile endeavor, but you wont be able to keep it spotless all the time. Youll probably nd a French fry between the seat cushions from time to time. However, with a commitment to weekly and monthly upkeep, your car will be ready (without embarrassment) for passengers.
By doing a weekly sweep, youll make monthly cleaning much easier. Once a month, shine the plastic, clean the glass, polish or brush the upholstery and remove any recent stains. When youre done, top off your efforts with a little air freshener.
No matter how hard you try to keep it out, dirt is going to be tracked into your car. So add vacuuming to the schedule. Every week, get rid of the clutter, sweep the oor and shake out the oor mats. If your pet travels with you, your weekly cleaning will include brushing out pet hair.
but make time at the end of the day (or week) to move everything to a designated spot.

By Craig W. Armstrong Its like a mufed squeak followed by a high-pitched bong, and sometimes it just hums. It almost sounds like its humming that old ABBA song... oh, I cant remember the name of it, but it sounds like that. Is this how you explain to your mechanic the noise your vehicle is making? Have you ever used the word galonk? Have you ever imitated a Madagascar hissing cockroach when describing a noise or mentioned anything about what it would sound like if someone squeezed a duck... really hard? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you probably need help conveying troublesome sounds coming from your vehicle. Cars and trucks make lots of sounds; some are normal and some are a denite indication that something is not functioning properly. Most people have a good idea of
Automotive Guide
which sounds are normal and which ones need to be checked out. The important thing is to be as accurate as possible when describing those abnormal noises to your mechanic. Like doctors, mechanics need to have a reasonable and thorough explanation of the patients symptoms; they will rely on you to give them that information. Be able to explain when you hear the noise. Is it at start-up or when you turn off the vehicle, when you are going uphill or around a curve, when youre braking or when the gears shift? Be specic in your explanation. Next describe the location of the sound. Rather than using the terms right or left side of the vehicle, you can avoid confusion by referring to the drivers side and the passengers side. Is the noise coming from the engine, underneath the car, from the rear, around the tires? You may even want to draw a diagram indicating the troublesome spot. Often a mechanic will test-drive your vehicle and listen for sounds so they can accurately diagnose the problem, but how many times have you taken in your car and it wont make the noise or do that thing for the mechanic? The main way to avoid this frustration is to be an expert, prepared witness. Explain any and all known maladies associated with the noise. There may be vibration or leaking uid. Explain where you feel the vibration-in the steering wheel, under your feet, etc. Indicate the location of any leak and the color of the uid if possible. Are there any other noticeable differences in how the vehicle is riding or handling? To repeat: Be thorough and specic in your explanation. Mechanics expect a certain amount of charades from customers (and they probably enjoy them sometimes), but accuracy in your explanation will help them do a better job of repairing your vehicle and getting you back on the road faster.

Automotive Guide
Polish vs. Wax
By Craig W. Armstrong Most of us make a concerted effort to take care of our cars. We get the oil changed and have the tires rotated when were supposed to, and we have a mechanic take a look if it starts pinging or dinging. Most of us even make sure the car is clean, either running it through a car wash or scrubbing it ourselves. But beyond the standard washing, do we ever repair its nish or protect it? Do we wax it or polish it? Do we even know the difference between the two procedures? Waxing a car and polishing a car are two different processes that use two different substances and achieve two different outcomes. Waxing a car is in essence adding a layer of protection. Waxing adds shine to a car and gives it that wet look, but it also protects the car from the elements and ultraviolet light. Waxing also protects the cars color from fading and helps delay oxidation by forming a physical barrier against dirty, corrosive substances. So, what does polishing accomplish? When you polish a car you clean it. Polishing eliminates scratches, rust, dirt and wax. Polishes contain abrasives that actually remove a thin layer of the cars paint. Polishing also brings out the color and Polish usually comes in liquid form but can also be purchased in spray form. Polish can be chemical or abrasive, with abrasive being used more for small areas of rust or scratches. Because polish has the ability to remove a layer of paint, caution is recommended. Be sure to read the application instructions thoroughly or your car could end up with a bare metal nish. So which comes rst, waxing or polishing? Because polish can remove wax, obviously you would wax your car after polishing it. Remember, when you are waxing you are sealing. Youve washed your car, youve polished it (removing rust, scratches and oxidation) and then you wax it to seal in all of your hard work. As you might have already gured out, wax and polish are composed of different elements. Wax comes in two forms, paste and liquid. It can be natural or synthetic, with natural wax containing a large amount of carnauba wax, derived from the carnauba palm. adds shine.
