LEADERS MANUAL

Leadership Meeting July 10th, 2011


Purpose of the retreat: To help new freshmen integrate into high school by providing information and relationships that will assist that process. It is also to challenge you as leaders to take some of the responsibility for the development of the new freshmen. Objectives of the retreat: New freshmen would come away feeling cared for by upperclassmen Freshmen would get to know upperclassmen For freshmen to learn about some of the pitfalls they might encounter in high school in order to recognize and avoid them Freshmen would realize the things that will help them live & thrive for God in high school For upper classmen to see the new freshmen as peoplenot just newbies to pick on. New freshmen would get to know one another better Interaction with adult volunteer leaders For freshmen to have a positive beginning for their high school years What do we want from you? Evident acceptance of new freshmen (examples?) Remember what it was like to be a new freshman (the good and the bad) A servants heart A loving selfless attitude Your first-born childjust kidding! But we do want you to take your responsibilities very seriously. If you cant keep the commitment, dont make it. How can you help right now? Share your ideas Divide into working teams Talk about what you wished you would have known going into high school How do you feel you can help the new freshmen belong to our group? Determine how your responsibilities can help with our topics at each session (i.e., games, skits, testimonies tying in with talks).

Outside games: Competition games on Saturday morning We will also need a night game for Friday night (couch game?). Suggestions for games: http://www.thesource4ym.com/ . Indoor crowdbreakers & games: We will need at least 15 minutes worth of games/crowdbreakers each session Session One: Friday Night

Skits & Dramas: To help enforce the topic and to provide laughter moments. Suggestions: http://www.thesource4ym.com/ or http://www.skitguys.com/ Gifts & Decorations: We need banners for each topic, a Welcome Freshmen banner, and any other banners that you feel are appropriate. The decoration team will go out before the rest of us and set up all the decorations, so that when the freshmen arrive you can welcome them off of the bus. Gifts will be put on each freshmans bed to help personalize the weekend and let them know they are special. (Examples: candy, stress balls, gift card, something personalized, like a mix CD, journal (w/ note), etc.) Debrief Groups: Each of you will be leading a discussion group to help drive home the speakers talk. Youll have the same group all weekend. We will divide up into groups once we arrive at camp.

Testimonies: We would like one testimony per session that relates to the topic we discuss.

Worship: Praise and worship music for each session (3 to 4 songs each meeting) Photography: We need someone with their own camera to take pictures of the weekend! Video: We need someone to film the event and create a five-minute video to use in church. Well use it later to see what we did and as a promotion for next year. Technical: Set up & run Media Shout, PowerPoint, Movies, Clips, etc Be responsible for all equipment safely getting to GCC & back to ECBC!!!

Friday, August 12th 2:00 p.m. Decoration and Technical Teams leave to set-up 3:00 p.m. Freshmen begin arriving at ECBC 3:30 p.m. Leave for Garden City Chapel 5:00 p.m. Arrive, unpack, get settled 5:30 p.m. Welcome, rules, introductions, Etc 6:30 p.m. Dinner 7:30 p.m. Session #1 9:00 p.m. Debrief time 9:30 p.m. Snack break 10:00 p.m. Couch game 11:30 p.m. In Rooms 12:00 a.m. Sleepy time (Lights Out) Saturday, August 13th 8:30 a.m. Wake-Up 9:00 a.m. Small Group Prayer Time 9:30 a.m. Breakfast 10:15 a.m. Session #2 11:45 a.m. Debrief time 12:00 p.m. Lunch 1:00-2:30 p.m. Competition games 2:30-5:30 p.m. Free time (swim, beach volleyball, basketball, sleep, sea shack, etc.) 5:30-6:30 p.m. Freshen Up 6:30 p.m. Dinner 7:15 p.m. Session #3 9:00 p.m. Debrief time 9:30 p.m. Games Night/Snack Break 11:30 p.m. In Rooms/Pack 12:00 a.m. Sleepy time (Lights Out)
