Outdoor Exercise Area

Last year the Humane Society received a special bequest specifically to help animals at the county animal shelter. The Board of Directors discussed goals for improving conditions at the shelter and the first two projects were completed mid-June. Working with shelter staff and county administrators it was decided to build an outdoor exercise area for dogs and cats awaiting adoption. Two 15x45 chain link areas were constructed for dogs and a smaller outdoor covered area was completed for cats. Visit our local shelter on Johnstonville Road and see how nice it is. Someday we would like to have a picnic table and chairs in the outside area so people can visit with the dogs and cats and use the area as a way of getting to know the dog or cat they are looking to adopt.

Get Reimbursed for Spay/Neuter!

Lassen Humane Society has some Grant money to give financial assistance to Lassen County Dog Owners to fix their dogs. Call 257-4555 for information. Our Spay/Neuter Reimbursement Program is continuing and we now offer $50 reimbursement for a Dog or Cat Spay and $40 for a Dog or Cat Neuter. This offer is for Lassen County Residents. If you know someone who has an intact dog or cat, please tell them about our program. There are still many unwanted animals being turned in at the shelter.

Yard Sale: Success!

This years yard sale was a huge success. According to Bonnie Mueller, coordinator for the event, she had up to half a dozen dedicated volunteers helping to get ready for the sale. Hundreds of hours went into making this years sale the best yet. Bonnie has retired from doing this yard sale again and will concentrate on other fundraising projects. We thank her and her crew of volunteers for all their time energy and help. This annual event grew each year for the last eight years, going from an actual yard to the commercial building at the fairgrounds (pictured above and right). We hope someone will step up and volunteer to organize the sale next year!
