Dr Tim Mack Megatrends Conference Essay Dr Tim Mack Megatrends Conference Essay As we know, nowadays the world has

been experiencing dramatic changes in different sectors such as in the environment, economy, technology and others. These changes in the world may be known as megatrends, for BNET Dictionary this term was made popular by John Naisbitt in his bestseller Megatrends. For Babylons Free Dictionary, megatrend is a major movement, pattern or trend emerging in the macro environment or an emerging force likely to have a significant impact on the kinds of products consumers will wish to buy in the foreseeable future (Babylons Free Dictionary). It can be synthesized that a megatrend is a radical change in different sectors of the world that on the future will probably affect human life. Dr Tim Mack proposed the following 6 Megatrends in his Megatrends Conference: 1) environmental changes, 2) economic change: rollercoaster of poverty, 3) health, 4) technology problem solving, 5) greater mobility and 6) cultural transformation. Environmental changes can be categorized as one of the most interesting megatrends because it is interesting to know about the changes we are creating in our environment and how these changes will affect us in the future. Environmental changes can be easily related to our daily life. We are responsible for the use of water while we are taking a bath, washing our cars and hands, for the pollution we create while lighting a bonfire or using unnecessarily our cars. People use to pollute the world by using products which and necessarily for daily life. How can we reduce our pollution if we necessarily need those products? People can find different ways for stop polluting our environment, for example: while a person is taking a shower, the tap can be turned off while a person is soaping himself/herself. Also, people can take a walk to the store that is near to his/her house instead of using the car. There are a lot of alternatives that people can start using for taking care of the environment and to make slower the environmental changes. Actually, there are too many effects that environmental changes can bring to society and can affect them in the future. Dr. Tim Mack mentioned different consequences such as water scarcity, ice melting and pollution. He said that by 2025 there will be 3 billion water scarcity compared to the 70 million today. Also, he explained that if Greenland and Antarctic melt off the global sea level will increase by 70 meters. Another theme was the growth in urban population, and statistics showed that world human population will double by 2030 and that 9 cities will have a population over 20 million people. As a conclusion, it can be said that in our daily life we are affecting the environment and that these could bring us dramatic environmental changes. Dr Tim Mack mentioned some dramatic consequences that probably will start being seen in a couple of years. We should start using different alternatives for stopping the pollution in the environment. Megatrends are and will affect us in the future creating new problems to the society that is increasing exponentially.
