Figure 19 SOM to PS1201 Power Supply Connections
Each turbidimeter must have a PS1201 to provide ac power. The power supplies may be interconnected via a two conductor, shielded cable with a length less than 400 meters. Although these types of connections are usually made between two PS1201 Power Supplies, information for interconnecting between other modules is presented in the instruction manuals for those modules. For connections between two Power Supplies, refer to Figure 20 and proceed as follows:
Figure 20
1. Make sure no power is being supplied to either PS1201 Power Supply. 2. Unscrew the four screws securing each PS1201 face using a flat-bladed screwdriver. 3. Lift the faces off both of the Power Supplies and set them aside, or, store the front cover by screwing the right side of the front cover to the left side of the back enclosure. 4. If necessary, use a punch and hammer (from the outside of the enclosure) to remove one of the left three unused knock-outs on the bottom of each PS1201 enclosure. Center the punch on the knock-out for best results.
Section 3
5. Route the interconnect cable (Cat. No. 52157) to each PS1201 enclosure through the holes created in Step 4, using the strain relief fittings provided. Make sure the outer cable insulation is just captured by the strain relief fitting. 6. Strip six inches (15 cm) of outer insulation from the cable (Cat. No. 52157). 7. Strip -inch of insulation from each wire and insulate the shield wire with appropriate tubing. Insulate the non-connected end of the shield wire with electrical tape. 8. Connect the ends of the cable as shown in Table 8. See Figure 20 on page 32.
Note: Connect the shield only at one end of the interconnect cable (choose either end). Insulate the non-connected end with tape or heat-shrink tubing.
9. Tighten the strain relief fitting using the supplied washer and locknut until the cable no longer slides in the strain relief.
Note: To assure the PS1201 continues to meet NEMA 4X, I.P.66 enclosure ratings, use only the supplied NEMA-style enclosure strain relief fittings.
10. If other power or network connections are to be made at this time, refer to the appropriate section in this manual or the individual device manual. If no other connections need to be made, continue with the remainder of this procedure. 11. Ensure the gaskets are properly seated and replace the faces on both power supplies. Replace the corner screws and tighten to 10 in-lb (1.1 n-m) maximum to maintain the NEMA rating.
The network signals require a terminator for proper operation. As shipped from the factory, the terminator is disabled on all devices.
Important Note: Failure to properly terminate the network may cause total network failure. Only one device must have the network terminator enabled.
Section 3
Figure 22 Network Termination
Section 4
One-fourth inch OD rigid or semirigid tubing is recommended for sample lines. Run them as directly as possible between the turbidimeter body and the sampling point to minimize sample flow lag time. The optimum flow rate is 250-750 mL/minute (4.0 to 11.9 gal/hour). Flow rate into the turbidimeter may be controlled with a flow restriction device on the inlet line. Flow rates below 250 mL/min. will reduce response time and cause inaccurate readings. Flow rates above 750 mL/min. will cause the turbidimeter to overflow into the drain. Inaccurate readings may be seen if the flow rate is too high.
Section 5
5.1 AC Input Power
Please refer to the PS1201 Power Supply Manual for all necessary information for wiring the PS1201 Power Supply to AC power. When all network and AC wire connections have been completed, make sure all modules are closed and enclosure gaskets and covers are securely in place to maintain the NEMA rating on the equipment. Supply sample to the turbidimeter and initially allow it to flush the turbidimeter body for one to two hours. Supply power to all PS1201 Power Supplies. Check the status of all modules and sensors. If the module or sensor has an external configure light, the light should be flashing. (The configure light is internal to the Signal Output Module (SOM) and AquaTrend with SOM.) The configure light on each module and sensor will be extinguished when the modules are configured by the software.

Note: Even though the Digital Display Module is physically connected to a sensor, it will not display readings from the sensor until it is configured by the AquaTrend (see section 7.2).
Section 7
The DDM must be added to the AquaTrend network before the AquaTrend can recognize and route data to the module. After the module is added, it must be assigned to a specific sensor. The yellow LED on the Digital Display Module flashes when the module is initially plugged in to indicate the module is not configured. After the module is configured by the AquaTrend, the yellow LED turns off. (The light shines steadily while the CONFIGURE button is being pushed.)
5. The AquaTrend will display the available sensors and their names. Select the desired sensor and press ENTER. 6. The AquaTrend will display the available DDMs and their names. Select the desired module. Press ENTER. 7. The AquaTrend will confirm the DDM has been assigned to the sensor.
