SYNOPSES OF COURSES QKM 2113 MATHEMATICS I CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 The course covers topics that include real number system, polynomial, exponents, radicals, logarithms, system of equations, system of inequalities and matrices, with emphasis on problem solving techniques as applied to business and economics. QKM 2123 ECONOMICS CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 This is an introductory course aimed at exposing students to the basic concepts and tools in conventional economics. This course is made up of two parts. The first part deals with the basic concepts in microeconomics such as the basic economics problem of scarcity and choices, market operation, firm behavior and the organization of industry in competitive markets. The second part of the course deals with the basic concepts in macroeconomics by focusing on the circular flow model, national income accounting, national income equilibrium determination and macroeconomics instability which covers the study of unemployment and inflation in the economy. The studies of macroeconomics also include the role of fiscal policy in dealing with economic instability. QKM 2133 STATISTICS CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 The course introduces the basic ideas of statistics and probability. The first part of the course emphasizes on descriptive statistics covering topics such as collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of data, measures of central tendency, location, skewness and variation. The second part of the course deals with fundamental ideas of probability and its application. Topics covered include counting techniques, conditional probability and independence, random variables and their mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson and Normal distributions. QKM 2143 ACCOUNTING 1 CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 This is an introductory course on basic accounting. The course covers the essential procedures in double entry bookkeeping to complete the accounting cycle, using the journals and ledgers, and the preparation of financial statements with year-end adjustments. In addition students will learn how to calculate the monetary value of stock using variety of methods. QKM 2213 MATHEMATICS II CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 The course covers topics on mathematical functions, limits and continuity, derivatives and integration with applications. In general, this course exposes students to calculus and its various applications in business, economics and other areas of problem solving.

QKM 2243 ACCOUNTING II CREDIT HOURS: 3 / CONTACT HOURS: 4 This course will enable students to identify the major differences and similarities between financial and managerial accounting. The first part of the course deals with preparing financial statements for different economic entities such as, businesses with incomplete records, partnership and manufacturing corporations. Students will learn to evaluate business performances and internal cash control with the preparation of cash flow statements. The second part of the course introduces basic cost accounting techniques and tools used by managers for decision making. Students will learn the costing methods used to track costs and find the most favorable combination of costs and revenue that will improve profitability.
