Indian Institute of Bank Management,formerly known as North Eastern Institute of Bank Management, is an autonomous management institute located in the North Eastern region of India and serving banks, financial institutions and their customers all over the country in developing sharp management skills.Its user organisations include banks, financial institutions and other undertakings in the government and non-government sector in India and Nepal. Efforts are on to include clientele from the neighbouring countries of Bhutan, Bangladesh etc.With its own state of art campus, IIBM is located on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati, the gateway to the picturesque north eastern states of India. Situated on the banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra, Guwahati is home to the famous Kamakhya Temple and the Sankardev Kalakhetra. Shillong, referred to as the " Scotland of the East", is merely a three hours drive away. Established in 1980, the institute is engaged in training, research and consultancy activities. Shri V.Leeladhar , Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India is the present Chairman of the Governing Board and Dr Subir Chowdhury, former Director IIM Calcutta is the Vice Chairman. The Board includes eminent persons and representatives of banks, financial institutions and the Reserve Bank of India. Shri P. K. Mishra is the Director of the Institute. IIBM continually strives to develop a collaborative alliance between the financial sector institutions and its user organisations covering business, industry, government and nongovernment sectors for mutual growth and development. It is dedicated to the cause of national development through fostering banks, financial institutions and other undertakings of the country in general and the north eastern region in particular by creation, application and dissemination of knowledge. Its mission is to become a worldclass institute of higher learning in Bank and Financial Management.
Towards this endeavour, the Institute focuses on the competency development of people through training and education to create competitive advantage for banks, financial institutions, business, industry and the government and non-government sector. In addition to the regular competency and management development programmes, the institute also conducts in-house programmes for business, industrial organisations, banks and financial institutions on demand. The Institute has modern dynamic classrooms facilities with hostel supported by an extensive library of books, journals, films, database and a fully equipped computer lab with 24 terminals.

OUR LOCATION
The gateway to the North-Eastern State, Guwahati is situated on the Southern Bank of the mighty Brahmaputra river, the son of Brahma. A reference of Guwahati has been mentioned in Kalika Puran and Mahabharata. Historically, the city was known as Pragjyotishpura meaning the Light of the East. The present name Guwahati is apparently derived from Guwai meaning betalnut and Hatt meaning market. The capital of the state of Assam, Dispur lies in the heart of the city and is the hub centre for all socio-cultural, political, industrial, trade and commercial activities of the entire region. Guwahati, boasts of presiding the largest Tea Auction market in India. The panorama of traditional articrafts of entire North Eastern Region encompasses handicrafts and handloom items which are exhibited and marketed through the State Governments departmental stores like Pragjyotika, Jagaron, Purbashree at Ambari and two of the main commercial markets in Panbazar and Fancy Bazar. Guwahati is the commercial nerve of the North East India. The major places of tourist attraction in the city are Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Temple, Balaji Temple, State Museum, Sankardev Kalakhetra and a cruise in river Brahmaputra. Apart from his, the silk village of the state, Soalkuchi, situated not very far from the city is a must visit for tourists.
The Indian Institute of Bank Management (IIBM), Guwahati is located at Jawahar Nagar, Khanapara (adjacent to Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara) and is about 4 km from Dispur Capital Complex, 10 km from the Railway Station and 37 km from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport. Those coming by air may avail prepaid taxi from the airport and come to IIBM via 37 NH Bypass, which is about a 45 minutes drive (taxi fare Rs. 430/- approx). Those coming from the Railway Station/Bus Terminus may take a Taxi/Autorickshaw (auto fare Rs. 75/80 approx). Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara, being a very old institution is a well known reference point for locating IIBM.

Library The Institute's library is on the first floor of the academic-cum-office block. The library has a collection of about 10,000 books, 2000 reports and receives about 90 periodicals and 11 dalies. The Library brings out a monthly bulletin entitled "News Brief" providing news abstracts on developments in N E Region besides periodical documents on Basic Statistics on Banking in the North East. The Library facilities are extended to the bankers and research students from the universities/institutions. Computer All the computers in the Institute are networked and efforts are on to develop V-SAT connectivity and intranet facility within the institute. The library information has also been computerised and is available on the local area snetwork.
Hostel
The Institute has a Hostel block in the Campus for accommodation of the participants. It contains 19 double-bedded rooms, 4 guest rooms with AC & T.V. facility and a Doctor's chamber. In addition, there is a dining hall and a recreation room having facilities of T.V., carrom board, chess and gym equipments. There are plans to convert all the rooms into AC with TV facilities.
