CASE STUDY 2
Ms. DL, a 70 year old lady with Osteoporosis fell while climbing a fence (June 28, 2005). She sustained an undisplaced oblique fracture of the left lower lateral malleolus. Initial recommended treatment by the admitting orthopaedic surgeon was immobilization in a short leg plaster for 6 weeks.
BEFORE:
After nearly 4 months in a short leg cast, Ms. DL was again reviewed on the October 6, 2005, after followup CT scans were taken (See figure 1). Results revealed that the fracture was still clearly shown with little radiographic evidence of healing. Ms DL was instructed to wear a Moon Boot, and was told that she may need to consider a bone graft and internal fixation. BODIHEALTH.COM 18 Figure 1 CT Scan October 4, 2005 AP View
AFTER:
On the October 17, 2005, Ms. DL commenced a treatment plan on the BodiHealth device. On November 7, 2005, following 21 days of treatment, a review xray revealed that the fracture was consolidating with satisfactory alignment (See Figure 2). Figure 2 XRay November 7, 2005
Reports after a further CT scan on the 25th November 2005 revealed there had been progression in healing of the fibular fracture compared to the CT study done on the 4th October 2005. There was now solid bony union at the posterior and medial aspects of the fracture (See Figure 3). Figure 3 CT Scan November 25, 2005
RESULTS:
After some 4 months there was no radiographic evidence of healing. She began EPRT BodiHealth treatments and after 2 months her fracture had healed.
