Literature Review Internship with the World Health Organization (WHO)

Are you interested in getting some experience with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO)? Are you looking for an opportunity to work internationally but lack the funding to travel internationally? Are you looking for a chance to get involved but require flexible hours that will fit your schedule? Are you a pharmacy student or pharmacist who has literature research experience?

If your answer is YES to the questions above, here is an opportunity for you!
Through IPSF, WHO will recruit one or two pharmacy student(s) and/or young pharmacist(s) to work on a new literature review project. Under the supervision of staff from the WHO, student(s) will execute a literature review on the following question: Does active participation of representatives from key stakeholder groups in the governance structures of health professional schools affect the quantity, quality and relevance of health professionals?

NB: Key stakeholder groups will be defined as the actors in the outcomes framework (e.g. policy makers, education and training institutions, professional associations, regulatory bodies, health services, communities and civil society, including students)
The goal of this project is to transform and scale up the education and training of health professionals so as to contribute to health system strengthening and to improve health outcomes. WHO will provide structured guidance to help the intern(s) to develop the search strategy and summarize the findings. A detail protocol and PICO have already been developed for this project. The internship will start immediately on July 24, 2011. Because the work associated with the literature review can be done independent at the convenience of any location, student(s) will be able to work on this project from their own home. The hours related the internship is flexible and the literature review is set to be completed by September 30,2011 . Eligibility WHO may accept applicants who meet all of the following conditions as interns:

Applicants who are enrolled in a course of study at a university or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification (graduate or post-graduate). Applicants who apply for an internship within 4 year of completion of their formal qualification may also qualify for consideration; Applicants who have completed three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution prior to commencing the assignment; Applicants who are fluent in English and preferably in other working languages of the office of assignment; Applicants who are not related to a staff member (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister or mother/father); Applicants who have not previously participated in WHOs internship programme; Applicants with experience in literature review would be preferred.

When accepting an internship, interns agree to: Conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the standards of conduct expected of a person working in an international environment in the context of the WHO. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on IPSF or WHO and not engage in any activity that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Organization. Provide the receiving programme with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship. Interns may not disclose or make use of any unpublished or confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of their internship. The provisions relating to texts prepared for publication apply also to interns. Submit a written report at the end of the internship to be reviewed by the supervisor and other interested parties. How to apply for the IPSF-WHO Internship All IPSF members are eligible to apply. WHO will be responsible for the final selection of applicant(s). Successful applicant(s) undertaking this internship will not be financially remunerated by WHO or IPSF. The deadline for this application is 21 July 2011. Please also include your previous experience in literature review where available.
