Standard Pathway (AMC Examination) FAQs

If you want to sit for the Australian Medical Council (AMC) Examinations for non-specialist registration in Australia, you must first be assessed as an eligible candidate. The non-specialist application process determines your eligibility.

How do I begin the application process? If you have access to the Internet you should apply online to the Australian Medical Council. Please refer to the Online Application Wizard FAQ What criteria must an international medical graduate meet to be eligible for the AMC Examination process? An applicant must provide evidence of identity and must possess a primary degree in medicine and surgery awarded from an approved course of study by a medical school listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) publication World Directory of Medical Schools, in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), or in other publications approved by the AMC. Note: Prior to receiving the AMC Certificate; applicants must also have met the English language proficiency requirements stated in the National English proficiency policy. The AMC advises candidates to complete English language proficiency requirements before undertaking the AMC MCQ Examination, to expedite registration through the Standard Pathway. While candidates will still be eligible to sit the AMC MCQ Examination prior to submitting evidence of English Language proficiency, from January 2009 evidence must be provided of completion of English Language requirements before the AMC will award the AMC Certificate. What if I want to sit for the AMC MCQ Examination on a specific date? You must submit your application and documentation to the AMC by the credentialing closing date as listed on the dates & venues page in order to be eligible to sit for the relevant AMC MCQ Examination. What happens if I forget to sign the 'Form declaration' included in the P1 Form? You will incur an administration fee as per the AMC fee structure and you will be asked to resubmit the application form correctly signed and filled in. What happens if I have an ineligible witness sign my 'Form declaration' included in the P1 Form or Form A? You will incur an administration fee as per the AMC fee structure and you will be asked

to resubmit the full application and ensure that you have an eligible witness certify the forms and documents What if my passport does not contain my signature or full date of birth? You must submit a statutory declaration or affidavit stating why your signature or date of birth does not appear on your passport. What if I have changed my name or varied its spelling and it is now different from the way it appears on my documentation? You must supply evidence of your name change or variation (for example, a marriage certificate or change of name certificate) or submit a statutory declaration or affidavit that explains all variations of your name. What if my documentation is certified incorrectly? You will incur an administration fee as per the AMC fee structure. You must resubmit all documents and ensure that the correct wording is used. Click here for more information. What if my documentation is not certified by the same witness who signed my application form? You will incur an administration fee as per the AMC fee structure. You must resubmit the documentation, which must be signed by the same witness who signed your application form. If this is not possible, you must supply a statutory declaration or affidavit stating why you have a different witness. What will happen once my application has been assessed? Once the application has been assessed, we will inform you by letter of the outcome. If we have assessed you as eligible to undertake the AMC Examination, we will include a Form C-1 application for the next available AMC MCQ Examination with the assessment letter. You can then apply for the next available AMC MCQ Examination before the stated closing date for the examination series. If we have assessed you as ineligible to undertake the AMC Examination, we will send you an email or letter stating what we still need to complete the application process. What if I have questions?
