From the secretary generals desk

A culmination of youthful energy, brilliant ideas that can revolutionize the world as we know it and a plethora of nations. Truly, this is the very spirit of any MUN. Add to that the electric vibe that CV radiates, and the result? CVMUN 2011. Organizing this MUN has been a brilliant learning experience. Right from the beginning of this journey in April 2011, with the guidance of out teacher coordinators, Mrs. Chandra Vasudevan and Mrs. Jayashree Madhukar along with our amazing social sciences department, members of the organizing committee have enjoyed themselves thoroughly. From deciding on committees to zeroing down on agendas and planning countries, the overall experience has left us enlightened about issues that plague our world. After much trial and tribulation, we narrowed down on agendas such as availability of healthcare facilities for the children of today and the need for privacy across cyberspace that are of growing concern to todays teenagers. As future leaders, it is the delegates responsibility to deal with these issues as carefully and with adequate research, arrive at as conducive resolutions as possible. As Secretary General, I am truly grateful to have as awesome an organizing committee as this years. Amid the chaos of dealing with academics, organizing the MUN, the flurry of excitement that comes with Culturals, this amazing team has never failed to surprise me with their suggestions, hard work and solutions to tame the madness. From a more personal aspect, this year, Id love to see some good debating, excellent preparation, exciting moderated caucuses, viable and well thought-out resolutions and yes, the inevitable, super fun motions for entertainment! Above all, I hope CVMUN 2011 serves as a platform for delegates to have fun, make a ton of like-minded friends and equip then to tackle any situation come what may.

Mitali Vaidyanath, Secretary General Mitali Vaidyanath is a simply remarkable individual. As the secretary general for the CV MUN, she is all set to make sure that this event turns out to be a grand success. Being a secretary general, she has high expectations from the delegates, panel members and of course from herself! She wants to ensure that all the delegates gain their maximum through active participation and, also enjoy while doing so. A fReaKish animal lover she volunteers at Blue Cross. Self confessed mini-dictator this drama queen likes to be on stage. A fan of moderated caucuses, she wants them to be interesting and interactive with the delegates coming up with interesting topics. Mitali Vaidyanath, the athlete is an oxymoron but will walk in support for the right cause. She is uber cool butll take you by your horns if you ruffle her! -Lavanya G and Swetha Rakhecha Akshyah Kumar Deputy Secretary General The first thing I asked her was, what she expects from her delegates. And, bang came the reply: I want them to have loads of fun. She is known for her statistical reports and non stop reading (Relax delegates, She means novels). FYI, you can open her bag anytime and find a novel in it! Arguing Debating is her passion and being a topper in academics, she always does her homework right. She will listen and will ask you questions, whatever maybe the topic! Fight delegates as thats what she wants. Also stay away from the 3 Ds : Dumb, Dull and Dreary! -Swetha Rakhecha

Sanukta Mylandla Chair She feels that the ideal delegate must have good diction and be so confident that he/she can make the wrong sound right. Also, preparing for a Model UN is a way to understand the newspapers better. She feels that in order to succeed, a delegate must keep his/her calm even when being bombarded with questions and criticism. She believes, If you cant live in a country, might as well represent it!! Besides MUN-ing, Sanukta enjoys reading novels and Marvel comics. If you want to know about the latest sitcoms, shes your girl. -Mitali Chordia Indira Sunkara Vice-Chair A very jocund person who is passionate about debating and loves to give speeches and talk... Regardless of the topic. According to her, ideal delegates should know their countrys stance on related topics and, must also give interesting speeches on their topics. She will be testing your grey cells by putting forward miscellaneous questions. One thing that I can tell about her is that she really is the second smiling assassin of India! -Parul G Bhavana Shankar Moderator An amazing dancer of western style, she has been learning Bharatnatyam for 15 years, so I recommend you attack her during the Point of Entertainment! Her ambition is to be an actress- so you might want to take her autograph soon... Before she hardly recognizes you. She likes playing Badminton and has won various prizes. During the summer, she spends her time conducting summer camps for the kids. Well, this school captain has a mild case of glossophobia but can grill you when required! -Spandana Bhandari

Vignesh Piramanayagam Chair One of the most talented chairs you can ever find, Vignesh expects his committee to be cooperative and lively when in session. He can do anything but dance, so delegates ask him for anything during POEs, except that. This future film director loves anime and wants to direct movies with lots of special effects. According to him, hard work and good participation in the discussions pay a lot. An excellent debater, he knows the randomest of facts and intends to question you on them! With him as the chair, the committee will have a blast as he will be awaiting an opportunity to snub his delegates. :P -Lavanya G Lavanya Narayanan Vice-Chair She is an avid debater, likes playing with words, is a good actor and an aspiring Sports Reporter (reason being a huge fan of Rahul Dravid). When asked about strictness and seriousness in MUN, she says that even she has suffered the battle of nerves being a delegate last year, so she doesn't plan to be hard or curt as a Co-Chair. But, then she finds seriousness necessary, though wants Point of entertainment to be used too (Ah! thank god!). -Prerna Subramanian Yashwanth Bathala Moderator About the MUN he says that it would give a fine experience and understanding to students and serves as a good platform to meet a lot of people and work with them harmoniously. He has an aversion to corruption, politics and as you would expect Doing his homework!! As of now, he has his sights set on joining ISRO or DRDO. He expects the delegates to prepare well and have good amount of self-belief. The delegates under him can take it easy because he is a very joyful person and says so himself! -Samyuktha B

Bhavana Sunder Chair She describes herself as a very versatile person and believes that MUN helps students to be more sentient, confident and enhance their knowledge. She expects the delegates to participate in the discussions and not be reticent. Things in her like list include music and theatre while the love list includes dogs! Her leisure pursuits are singing, playing throw ball, drama, reading books and writing. As an advice: she cant put up with people who deviate from the topic and beat around the bush. Before signing off, she says, live in the moment... -Samyuktha B Prerna Maheshwari Vice-Chair MUN-ing is important because it is only through such conferences that teenagers understand and discuss world issue is her credence. You also get to meet different people your age, from all walks of life and get to know them better. She believes it is important to feel a sense of attachment to whatever work you do. Now, delegates dont get overwhelmed by this description of Prerna. She is just another teenager like you and me, who enjoys reading, dancing, listening to music and shopping. But, delegates do try not to cross this co-chair. She has a purple belt in karate!! :P -Mitali Chordia Mahima Priyani Moderator Smart and sassy describe her best. She might be sleepish-looking but is actually always on high alert! She has fooled many a teachers like this and you might just be the next in line. By the way delegates Ill give you a candy if you find her home-state! Shell serve you long questions which she loves, laced with elaborate hand gestures. Lavanya Chopra Chair Hyper just about describes her. An amazing person she is both an incredible delegate and debater, who has the bombs to blow you off your feet! I consider her to be the daughter of Goddess Ix Chel as she might just be the person building the buildings of the future. She loves grilling sessions and wants her delegates to pounce on each other. Once she has set her mind not even The Fates can dare play spoilsports. She also has the cutest evil grin ever! As an advice delegate, I request you all to give her a hard time deciding the best coz this is what she wants. With her the session can be anything but dull! -Swetha Rakhecha Surya Dev Singh Vice-Chair This Vice Chair loves to make a point as he has so often mentioned! Unlike me, he rather likes to be a delegate more than anything! Surprised at his selection, he eagerly started preparing with his team (what with strategies and all!*sigh*). This maths genius likes to make resolutions and wants his delegates to be pukka in their countrys stance. I also feel that this vice chair is gonna use his discretion to pass many moderated caucuses! Apiraman Arul Moderator This Mod is obsessed with Canada (too bad they dont have a sec council delegate) and obviously football! Hes a cheerful and fun loving person. So delegates you know the guy to demand the Point of Entertainment from! :P He think it is always the best if you research a little more about other countries than your own. He wants the delegates to be Punctual, Presentable and Prim! Respect him delegates, or youll face his wrath.

UNICEF
Kavya Narayanan Chair This smarty pants is an extremely fun-person, somebody wholl keep you happy and entertained at all times. Chairing UNICEF this time, she is looking forward to this years edition as much as we all are. Debating and MUN-ing are two things Kavya absolutely loves. She is also one of CVs best singers. [ Delegates, remember to keep this in mind. Point of Entertainment. DEMAND IT. ] Well, I can assure you that you delegates in UNICEF are gonna have a GREAT time with Kavya. There wont be a single boring moment- Guaranteed!! -Deepika Eashwaran Govindaraj M. Vice-Chair A very frank and friendly person, he loves music and like to debate. He expects all the delegates to be very formal and diplomatic, which would completely term him as a no-nonsense guy. His favorite part about the whole MUN is the emergency situation as this is the time when the delegates prove their spontaneity and the debating skills, which means that the delegates who perform well in this are definitely going to earn a few favorable points from this vice-chair. -Neha Nandakumar

Mitali Rawat Moderator Her friends describe her as complete prankster. Highly independent, she lives on her own as a paying guest! Her to do lists includes changing the entire political system and ambition is to become the youngest women President of India. Arguing, debating, talking, etc are all her cup of tea! One of the craziest things that she has ever done is to have ice-cream in the middle of the night all alone. Her main focusll be on developing countries so representative delegates please be vigilant. -Swetha Rakhecha

Mitali Chordia Editor-in-chief Well, well, well.....she's lively, optimistic, geeky, good-humored and ever so cheery. As for her leisurely pursuits, dancing tops the list (only to turn into her Achilles heel) followed by swimming, socializing, and the everyday television watching. She is exceptionally good at putting words to paper and, also putting others at ease. To her, the MUN is a lively affair that encourages outside classroom thinking. This bubbly lady is also one of the best spellers of our school. At the end of the day, she is utterly, properly, and simply frisky. -Vidhi Maheshwari Swetha Rakhecha Editor-in-chief, Organising is just her cup of tea! Being a delegate doesn't appeal to me as much, she gushes. As a very mild person, she has a knack of giving out orders without getting too pushy. When I asked her how she spends her free time, she said I dont have free time!! When I probed her further, I got to know that she loves Korean and Taiwanese Drama which she follows sincerely whenever possible and also plays badminton and tennis. If you want to tell her something then make sure that she is not reading anything! -Smriti Pradeep A kutty line on the people whove helped this magazine come to life! Tarun Lak (cartoonist) Hes smart, artsy and just, plain awesome!! Tarun Lak is the man to go to if youre searching for an artist. Aditya Baskaran (freelancer) A cool dude who writes well.
