1. About This Document

This document contains information about an update to Experion PKS R101.0 release. It is
recommended to fully understand the notices covered in this document before proceeding
with the installation of this update.
This document describes the changes incorporated in this update, the contents of the update,
what problems have been resolved in this update and what the known problems are.
For more information about release R101.0 in general, refer to the R101.0 SCN.
Important Notes:
This update applies to non-redundant and redundant Servers as well as Process Clients,
ACE and SCE systems. All systems must be at R101.0 before applying this update.

4. Special Consideration
4.1 OPM from R101.0-10.14 to R201.0-8.26 Fails at IOLIM
Upgrade
ATTENTION
PAR 1-3G1SKN
Error Indication: "Unable to Send Unconnect Messages
[EPKS_E_E_ERR_CL_UNABLE_UCONMSG(6L.101.10910)]".
Description: During migration of FIM or IOLIM modules, migration fails. This
error can occur either during upgrade or downgrade of firmware.
Recovery: Not applicable
Workaround: The user must manually update the firmware on the FIM or
IOLIM using ntools.
Manually update the FIM or IOLIM using NTools as follows:

Upgrade the FIM or IOLIM on the Secondary chassis using

NTools. (if already upgrade/downgrade to intended release then
don't flash firmware)
b)
Upgrade the FIM or IOLIM on (new) Secondary chassis. (if

already upgrade/downgrade to intended release then don't flash
firmware)
c)
Synchronize the chassis.
d)
Now perform the OPM.

5. Installation
5.1
Preparation
Experion PKS R101.0 Patch 14 is valid for your system if the version of your current
control software is R101.0 Patch 11. Your control software must be Process Server,
Process Client, ACE or SCE.
Verify that version PlantScape R101.0 Patch 11 is installed on your system by running
Notepad and opening file C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Engineering
Tools\ProductVersion.txt. If the line R101.0 Patch 11 Installed (R101.0.10.11), DAY
MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM is present, your system is at the correct version
to apply this update. If theyre not, this update cannot be applied to your system and you
should phone your local TAC for assistance.

Experion PKS R101.0 Patch 14 Installation

Copy and Unzip the Patch Installer
The Patch Installer is provided as a exe file, which must be extracted before the patch
can be installed. Copy the patch to your system and extract it as follows:
1. Copy the patch file R101_Patch14_Rev2.exe to your C: drive, into a temporary folder
of your choice (e.g. C:\Temp\patch).
2. Double click on R101_Patch14_Rev2.exe and then click on the Unzip button to
extract the files into a temporary folder (e.g. C:\Temp\patch).

Installing R101.0 Patch 14 in Process Server

Although it is not necessary for you to backup your system, nor is it required that you
export your Engineering Repository Database (ERDB), you should consider doing both
in case something unforeseen occurs.
ATTENTION
For Process Server systems install the patch as instructed in the table, per
the column that applies. Please note that patching a Redundant Server
system means you need to follow the steps in the ServerA and ServerB
columns in the numeric order shown (i.e. start in the ServerB column,
performing steps 1 10, then do steps 11-20 in ServerA column, etc.)

Perform the following steps:
1. Close all running applications.

3. Click Continue on the Welcome to Experion PKS R101 Patch 14 Installer dialog
box to proceed with the patch installation operation.
Note: If any of the files to be patched are missing from the system, then a message box
some files needed for the Patch Installation are missing... will be displayed. If you
encounter this error, click No to abort the installation and then report this issue to your
local TAC.
4. Click OK to confirm the Patch installation.
You may verify that the Patch was installed by examining the contents of file
C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Engineering Tools\ProductVersion.txt. If the
line R101.0 Patch 14 Installed (R101.0.10.14), DAY MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS

5. Restart the computer.
5.2.4
Final Tasks
When youre done installing the patch, the Patch Installer files that were created during
the unzip operation in section 4.2.1 are no longer needed. Delete these files from the
temporary directory on both servers and client machines.

5.3
Update the Firmware

There are two Experion PKS Engineering Tools utilities for updating firmware.
Network Tools (NTOOLS).
Controller Migration Wizard.
Although both utilities check that firmware revisions in the hardware are compatible with
the release and are used to update firmware (where required), they serve different
purposes. The Controller Migration Wizard is used to automatically update firmware
when migrating between releases (including patches), while the Network Tools utility is
used to manually update firmware in the following scenarios:
To ensure that a replacement module is of the proper firmware revision.
When commissioning one or more modules for the first time before initiating control
operations.
To manually update the firmware using NTOOLS, refer to Upgrading Firmware in

Hardware Components in section 6 in the R101 SIUG.
For updating the firmware either while on-process or off-process, refer to the subsection
matching your system configuration in Migrating Controllers in section 23 of the R101
SIUG.
Refer to the table below for the latest firmware version information and file locations.

Carefully read all message dialog boxes displayed during the firmware update.
Do not extract modules, remove power, or disconnect communication cables,

otherwise, you may have to return the module to the factory for reprogramming.

5.3.1
Firmware Revision File Reference

ATTENTION
TC-PCIC02 requires an updated device driver version 4.02.01 which is also
included with this release. Do not update the firmware of the TC-PCIC01 or
TC-PCIC02 until after you have updated the device drivers for these devices.
To update the driver, navigate to System Properties and select the
Hardware tab. Click on Device Manager.
Select the TC-PCIC module and right click.
Select Update Driver
Follow the Update Driver Wizard instructions.
Note: The driver file can be found in the following location C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Engineering
Tools\system\Firmware\PCIC\DRV_4.02.01\abvbp2k.inf
This table details the firmware versions embedded within this Patch update.
WARNING
The downloading (flashing) of Experion PKS firmware should only be done
either in a spare chassis or with the system off control.

R101.0 Software Installation and Upgrade Guide on steps to register the new EDS files.

6. Experion PKS R101.0 Patch 14 Removal

Verify that the patch is installed on your system by running Notepad and opening the file
C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Engineering Tools\ProductVersion.txt.
If the line R101.0 Patch 14 Installed (R101.0.10.14) on DAY MM/DD/YYYY
HH:MM:SS AM/PM is not there, patch is not installed; skip the following steps.
Perform the following steps:
1. Via the Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Install folder
2. Double-click Remove_R101_Patch14.exe, and then close the Windows Explorer
3. Click Continue on the Welcome to Experion PKS R101 Patch 14 UnInstaller to
proceed with the Patch removal operation
4. Note: If any of the files to be restored are missing from the system, then a message
box some files needed for restoration are missing... will be displayed. IF you
encounter this error click No to abort the patch removal and then report this issue to
your local TAC.
5. Click OK to confirm the Patch removal
6. Verify that the patch is removed from your system by running Notepad and opening
the file C:\Program Files\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Engineering
Tools\ProductVersion.txt. If the line R101.0 Patch 14 Removed (R101.0.10.14),
DAY MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM the patch was removed
7. Restart the computer.
