Message From Our Leaders:

By: Brother Jensen 2nd Counselor, Bishopric I have always loved the month of July. Over the years, some of my absolute favorite memories have been created in the month of July. Whether it was sliding down the big waterslide that once existed at Bear Lake, jet skiing in Miami with my wife, or watching a sunset for the first time with my new baby girl (ok that was just last night but it was another a good time). There are so many wonderful opportunities in life for us to experience. President Monson, in this months First Presidency Message, states: "What is most important almost always involves the people around us. Often we assume that they must know how much we love them. But we should never assume; we should let them know." This month I would encourage all of us, to reach out to our loved ones (friends, family, Brother Jensen, whomever) and to go create a great new memory. Turn off your electronic toys and go to Dennys and see how long you can make a plate of fries last. Or go hike the Y or find a fun place to watch the fireworks. Something. Anything. But do it with those that you love and remember that what is going on in the lives of those around us, actually makes up much of what our lives are about. I promise you that as you take a greater interest in the lives of those around you and strive to reach out and love more, that you will come to know the Savior better and feel of his perfect and eternal love that He so freely offers.

JULY HOME TEACHING MESSAGE:

Brother Im Committed
By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf Two young brothers stood atop a small cliff that overlooked the pristine waters of a blue lake. This was a popular diving spot, and the brothers had often talked about making the jumpsomething they had seen others do. Although they both wanted to make the jump, neither one wanted to be first. The height of the cliff wasnt that great, but to the two young boys, it seemed the distance increased whenever they started to lean forwardand their courage was fading fast. Finally, one brother put one foot at the edge of the cliff and moved decisively forward. At that moment his brother whispered, Maybe we should wait until next summer. The first brothers momentum, however, was already pulling him forward. Brother, he responded, Im committed! He splashed into the water and surfaced quickly with a victorious shout. The second brother followed instantly. Afterward, they both laughed about the first boys final words before plunging into the water: Brother, Im

committed. Commitment is a little like diving into the water. Either you are committed or you are not. Either you are moving forward or you are standing still. Theres no halfway. We all face moments of decision that change the rest of our lives. As members of the Church, we must ask ourselves, Will I dive in or just stand at the edge? Will I step forward or merely test the temperature of the water with my toes? Some sins are committed because we do wrong; other sins are committed because we do nothing. Being only sort of committed to the gospel can lead to frustration, unhappiness, and guilt. This should not apply to us because we are a covenant people. We make covenants with the Lord when we are baptized and when we enter the house of the Lord. Men make covenants with the Lord when they are ordained to the priesthood. Nothing can be more important than keeping a commitment we have made with the Lord. Let us remember the reply of Rachel and Leah to Jacob in the Old Testament. It was simple and straightforward and showed their commitment: Whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do (Genesis 31:16). Those who are only sort of committed may expect to

only sort of receive the blessings of testimony, joy, and peace. The windows of heaven might only be sort of open to them. Wouldnt it be foolish to think, Ill commit myself 50 percent now, but when Christ appears at the Second Coming, Ill commit myself 100 percent? Commitment to our covenants with the Lord is a fruit of our conversion. Commitment to our Savior and His Church builds our character and strengthens our spirit so that when we meet Christ, He will embrace us and say, Well done, thou good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21). There is a difference between intention and action. Those who only intend to commit may find excuses at every turn. Those who truly commit face their challenges squarely and say to themselves, Yes, that would be a very good reason to delay, but I made covenants, and so I will do what I have committed to do. They search the scriptures and earnestly seek the guidance of their Father in Heaven. They accept and magnify their Church callings. They attend their meetings. They do their home or visiting teaching. A German proverb says, Promises are like the full moon. If they are not kept at once, they diminish day by day. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have committed to walk in the path of discipleship. We have committed to follow the example of our Savior. Imagine how the world will be blessed and transformed for good when all members of the Lords Church live up to their true potentialconverted in the depth of their souls and committed to building the kingdom of God. In some way, each of us stands at a decision point overlooking the water. It is my prayer that we will have faith, move forward, face our fears and doubts with courage, and say to ourselves, Im committed!

Bishop Larsons Goodbye

I'm honored to share some final thoughts with you, my dear brothers and sisters. The most common question that I have been asked since my release is, "How do you feel?" This question is a bit complicated to answer--but I'll give it my best shot: It's always an adjustment when a window in your life closes. Working with you young single adults has been the greatest church service blessing of my life. I can't begin to enumerate the rewards that have come through service in this fantastic calling. I shall miss those rewards dearly. The most important of those comes from working so closely with people to help them take advantage of the atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is difficult to describe how beautiful it is to see how that most miraculous act that has ever happened in this universe is made effectual in someone's life through the grace and mercy of He who performed it. I can say with all certainty that repentance works. I also testify that the mantle of your priesthood leaders is real. It was always so neat to experience someone coming in and bearing his or her soul to me and to God and to know exactly what I was supposed to say. Heavenly Father would show me through the Holy Spirit a path that could be followed to overcome whatever trial, sin, or adversity that person was facing. I loved being able to feel and experience that revelation. It was almost tangible. As real as that mantle is, it has surely passed from me to Bishop Randall. I

This newsletter needs an official name! Make your mark on ward history by submitting your most creative newsletter name ideas that will help solidify our Ward Identity for years to come. A name will be selected during the first week in August and the winner will receive hmm, I dont know; lets say some extra blessings or something. I wanted to say that the winner would receive a voucher good for one free sin but I couldnt get Bishop Randall to get on board with that idea. Maybe we can get Gustavo in on this to help out with a prize for the winner. Submit your ideas to provoysa230ward@gmail.com with the word CONTEST in the subject line.

felt it leave, and I received a witness of it coming upon him, as I'm sure you did. I know that he can help you now in ways that I could when it was upon me. He has that mantle, and it is given to him to bless your lives. Most importantly, he has the ability to help you gain access to the atonement. If there is anything of severity that you need to repent of (pornography, masturbation, the law of chastity, word of wisdom, etc.,) please meet with him. The repentance process takes effort, work, and patience. But I testify that it is ALWAYS worth it!!! It would be worth giving up all you possess--even your very lives. It would be worth any sacrifice, any humiliation, and any difficulty--to be clean--having been sanctified by He who did experience humiliation, false accusations, terrible pain and agony, and the weight of sins on your behalf. I love the story of when Lamoni's father was willing to "give away all my sins to know thee." (Alma 22:18) Many bishops talk about feeling empty after being released. While it's true that I will miss you all dearly, I really don't feel this emptiness. I LOVE serving in the kingdom. It doesn't matter where. It doesn't matter what calling. I love to love people, and I love to be anywhere that the Lord would have me. I try to see every opportunity with faith and optimism, and I feel it to my core. I also love to look back with gratitude, to feel deeply indebted to my Father in Heaven, but not to long for times past (that's a monumental waste of time.) The present can ALWAYS be better than the past if we will make it

so. The future holds so much freedom, thanks to our loving Heavenly Father and the atonement of our Redeemer! I had a couple people ask me if they can do anything for me to thank me for my service. I do have one request: love Bishop Randall and the 230th Ward like I could feel that you loved me. If you believe it will continue to be one of the most amazing YSA wards in the world, it will continue to be that. I look forward to being at your various life events (temple marriages, baby blessings, etc.) You are my dear friends. I pray that you will stay faithful so that we may have reunions like Alma and his great companions: Ammon, Aaron, Omner, and Himni:
Alma 17 1 And now it came to pass that as Alma was journeying from the land of Gideon southward, away to the land of Manti, behold, to his astonishment, he met with the sons of Mosiah journeying towards the land of Zarahemla. 2 Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. 3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.

I love you all!! Bishop Larson

Do you know the saying, the numbers dont lie? Well, the members of the Provo YSA 230th ward are hoping that if there ever were some dishonest digits out there, they were discovered during the month of June in the form of home and visit teaching reports. During the month of June Elders Quorum reported visiting about 5% of the families they were assigned, while the Relief Society reported visiting about 30% of the sisters; both are 52 week lows. For the Month of July, Elders Quorum and Relief Society have worked hard to prepare all of the Home and Visit Teaching assignments. If you are not sure who you are assigned to visit, E.Q. contact: Ken Cline polycline@gmail.com R.S. contact: Ji Hye Park paia.erd@gmail.com
