World Aquaculture 2003 was one of the most highly attended WAS meetings ever. In 2011, WAS will once again hold World Aquaculture 2011 in Brazil. This time, it will be held in Natal, Brazil and located in the midst of many kinds of aquaculture. In 2003, aquaculture in Brazil was doing well, but now the aquaculture industry is doing even better. Aquaculture now has its own Ministry in the Brazilian Federal Government meaning there is a lot of government support for expansion of aquaculture in Brazil. Natal will be the perfect place for the world aquaculture community to assemble to consider Aquaculture for a Changing World". The program will explore the many aspects of this topic as well as addressing technical and practical changes in aquaculture.

BEYOND THE CONFERENCE

Natal is in the Northern part of Brazil and has many touristic activities available. Right on the beach there is much to enjoy in Natal - including the delicious local cuisine. Trips to the Amazon area, Fernando de Noronha and other marvelous sites are easy from Natal. Natal is one of the safest cities in the world and the safest in Brazil. Whether you like laying on the beach, snorkeling, diving, trekking or exploring the city, Natal will not disappoint! Stay in touch with the program developments for

Speakers: Dr. Wilson Wasielesky FURG and Dr. Yoram Avnimelech Israel Institute of Technology The course was scheduled to present basic information about intensification of shrimp and Tilapia culture systems. It includes different issues like historic of the BFT systems, autotrophic and heterotrophic processes, microbial processes and nitrogen cycle in BFT Systems. Different management procedures will be presented mainly the use of different aeration type, feeding and how to feed in BFT systems. The course also includes the discussion about procedures of Tilapia and shrimp growout in tanks, raceways and lined ponds, and perspective of the use of BFT systems around the world. Speaker: Dr. Ricardo Calado Universidade do Porto The present course will addresses the most relevant advances in the breeding and rearing of marine ornamental species. Details on spawning, embryo development, larval rearing, plankton culturing and tank design will be presented, both for fish and invertebrate species. This course will highlight the concerns towards the establishment of sustainable collection, production and trading practices for marine ornamentals, as well as the urgent need to develop reliable traceability protocols to distinguish cultured specimens from wild conspecifics. Speaker: Dr. Thales Passos de Andrade UFC Topics that will be addressed during the lectures: 1. Course introduction, purpose and schedule. 2. Introduction to gross anatomy and normal histology. 3. Fixation procedures for routine histology, collection of samples, shipping and standard histological techniques. 4. Normal histology and post-mortem change of principal organs and tissues. 5. IMN history, geographic distribution and other agents causing myonecrosis in shrimp. 6. Demonstration and lab session on IMN diagnostic histopathology. 7. OIE molecular diagnostic methods for detection of IMNV (theory, equipment used and application for ISH, RT-PCR, RT-LAMP and qRT-PCR). Commercial available diagnostic platforms will be discussed. 8. Strategies to prevent, to control and to farm shrimp in the endemic zones of IMN in Brazil. SC04 Job Opportunities for the Aquaculture Professional Speaker: Dr. Lorenzo Juarez The course on Job opportunities for the aquaculture professional will be a primer directed to students of aquaculture as a guide to the habits and actions conducive to good professional opportunities in the field of aquaculture.
