A FLIGHT OF HOPES AND DREAMS

By: Lester Avan G. Andrada A Feature Article I want to fly. This is a statement I said to myself before submitting my application documents to the Office of Institutional Linkages (OIL) for the Student Exchange Program to Far East University, Korea. After accomplishing all the requirements all that are left with me are hopes and faith that I will make it to the program though I was a bit unsure and somehow lack confidence because of certain factors. I was aware of the tough competition among other aspiring applicants and the high standards set by OIL. But for me, theres no room for false hopes. All that I am thinking now is that if THIS is really for me, THIS is for me! I really want to study abroad. I want to widen my horizons and explore knowledge in other academic setting and I think Korea is the best place. With all its rich culture and sophisticated historical repertoire, a year of study in Korea will be a great experience! When I discovered about the program of the Far East University-Korea, I felt that it will be a very good place for me to really explore and reach out to the big world. I surf the internet and looked for their website to know more about the school and I was surprised and amazed when I saw it. Travelling to other places overseas has been one of my greatest dreams in life. I can still remember my childhood days when I used to be astonished so much when looking at images of great places and unusual sceneries in other countries. I loved to watch foreign movies and I was always found reading history books and atlases. There were also times, I recalled, I used to love experimenting on dishes, thinking that I will be able to prepare any foreign delicacy while being guided by an international recipe book.

Yes, I really want to travel and experience life in other country particularly in Korea. I want to know more about itsrich culture and ways of living. Im interested to know how human interactions operate in different settings and how they share life experiences. It is a great blessing for me to be given a chance to study abroad. Not everyone is given with this kind of opportunity and I believe that this Study Abroad Program of FEU-Korea can really make a big change in my life. We are just living a simple life in our family but of course, we are still hoping of making it better someday for I believe that my hopes and dreams will soon come true. Then luckily, a blessing came as a surprise. Upon knowing that I passed the initial screenings for the Student Exchange program at OIL-UPLB, I got so excited and started doing my necessary preparations. Since I was informed that Ill be doing some tutoring and teaching tasks, I come up with teaching materials and review on teaching techniques. These teaching materials include modules and work sheets of English Grammar lessons both for beginners and intermediate levels. I also prepared my lesson plans for teaching so that when Istart the job, I wont find any difficulty in handlinglessons to my students.I also collected many excellent materials that can efficiently facilitate true and effective learning. I also started collecting instructional materials and books for the Korean Language since I know that the Han-geul is the medium of instruction in Korea. Watching Korean films also became one of my hobbies. I may have undergone many trials and difficulties. Failures have gone down on my way and I was tested by the hardships of life. But, these do not stop me from dreaming and believing that someday, after all those trials and failures, theres always victory and triumph waiting at the end of the road. All we need to do is to continue believing in the power of our dreams, do not lose hope and never ever give up.
