Industrial applications
After eight years of positive development in the Indian market, the Grundfos Group now expands its Indian sales company to include production facilities, too. The company, which has approx. 80 employees, today inaugurates new buildings covering a total of 5,000 m2 in the Indian city of Chennai. The company thus gives the starting signal for production in India. With a DKK 20m investment it is our goal to provide even better service to the Indian market, where our primary focus will be on the industrial pro duct range, including product types like Hydro Boosters for pressure boosting and CR pumps, NB and NK pumps for industrial purposes. Group Chairman Niels Due Jensen says about the inauguration: "It has been said that anything is possible in India especially following the political reforms, which were introduced in the 90s. At Grundfos, we are optimistic about future pump sales in India, particularly now that we have established our own production facilities in the country." Local production will enable Grundfos to deliver its pump solutions quickly and with a high degree of adaptation to local conditions. Grundfos India is responsible for sales to both India, the Maldives Islands, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The strength of this local sales and service struc ture showed for instance in connection with the Tsunami in December last year, when Grundfos was able to move quickly to help the affected areas. Grundfos in India since 1997 Grundfos first set up in India in 1997, and since then the company has experienced a most positive development. The Indian economy provides great scope for growth, and Grundfos expects its local production facilities to enhance the Group's image in the Indian mark et. With a population of more than one billion people, India holds great potential. Grundfos offers solutions that can improve living conditions for large parts of the population, who will experience quality and stability in water supply and drainage, energy-efficient pump solutions for the growing industry and environment -friendly solutions for heat supply and air conditioning. The special climatic and topographic conditions of India and its neighbouring countries represent great
challenges, and Grundfos is looking forward to confronting these challenges and delivering high -quality products that will benefit the population of the entire area.
Mr N.K. Ranganath, MD, Grundfos Pumps India Pvt Ltd Our Bureau Chennai, March 19 Grundfos Pumps India is on an expansion mode. It inaugurated its phase II of the Thoraipakkam facility on the Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai by investing Rs 17.6 crore, and has bought 16 acres near Sriperambudur near Chennai to construct an additional production facility with work expected to commence in 2011, according to Mr Carlo Parola, Senior Vice- President, Grundfos Group, Denmark. India is our shining star, Mr Parola said. Last year, while the group's revenue was down by nearly 10 per cent, the Indian subsidiary managed to grow by nearly 3 per cent over the previous year, which is a major achievement in the backdrop of the global recession. In the first half of last year, things were slowing down in India and it was a concern but things improved dramatically in the second half, he told newspersons. No plan has been made so far on the investment or products to be manufactured at Sriperambudur. The company could also consider putting up additional facilities in other parts of the country in future, he said. For the calendar year 2009, Grundfos India reported revenue of Rs 208 crore compared with Rs 201 crore in the previous year. The group as a whole reported revenue of 2.3 billion, he said. The new facility inaugurated on Thursday comprises material handling equipment needed to handle pumps and components in the manufacture, assembly and storage operations. It has a test bed capacity' that is built to 300 kw and the entire load is supported by generations, which will help in the testing of large pumps used for infrastructure projects, said Mr N.K. Ranganath, Managing Director, Grundfos-India. Grundfos Pumps India assembles and sells large capacity pumps used in a range of applications industrial, wastewater, commercial buildings, IT parks, hotels, hospitals and government buildings. The Indian market for pumps is estimated to be around Rs 4,000 crore, and of this the addressable market is around Rs 2,700 crore. The demand is coming from all the sectors that are moving out of recession slowly, he said. We will have a better growth this year but it will not be the same as in the past of around 30 per cent, he said. We expect the industry to grow at around 15 per cent. The West is the biggest market for the company, followed by South (Tamil Nadu and Karnataka), North and the East. However, the growth rate last year was higher in the East, he said.
Grundfos Pumps India Pvt Ltd, a 100 % Danish subsidiary, has inaugurated a new 7000 sq metres facility in Chennai. The facility was constructed with an investment of Rs. 17.6 cr. The new facility boasts sophisticated material handling equipment' needed to handle pumps and components in the manufacture, assembly and storage operations and also houses an office area of 1000 sq metres. The new facility has a test bed capacity that is built to 300 Kw and the entire load is well supported by back-up power, which will help in the testing of large pumps used for massive infrastructure projects. In addition to this expansion within the existing facility, Grundfos has acquired 16 acres of land near Sriperumbudur to cons truct an additional production facility and the work is expected to commence by the year 2011. Further, Grundfos India is working with IGBC to get a certification of Green Factory Building to push its agenda of energy efficiency, water conservation and environmental friendliness. Speaking on the occasion, Carlo Prola, Senior Vice President, Grundfos Group, said "India is one of the most important overseas markets for the company in the Asia - Pacific region. The expansion of the Chennai based facility further strengthens our capabilities to adapt to the local market and signifies our commitment to long-term business operations in India. We had established our first facility in March 2005 and have since grown four times the size in turn over." NK Ranganath, Managing Director, Grundfos-India, said "Grundfos chose to expand its operation at a time when the markets were witnessing a down turn. We plan to increase our footprint in India and expand our operations by setting up another facility near Sriperumbudur. Our vision is to be the best pump company in all the segments that we operate in. We continue to be eco friendly with our products and our factories. " The need for this expansion arose out of the demand for energy efficient and reliable pumps in the market and current plans are to produce end suction pumps, Hydro boosters, submersible and vertical multistage in line pumps. The Indian market has overwhelmingly welcomed these pumps in view of its world class quality and performance.
