The following are the corrected and improved section relevant to NCUTE and SVPISTM Nodal Centre for

Upgradation of Textile Education (NCUTE) 6.17 NCUTE was established with the broad objective of enhancing textile education through improved training of teachers to meet the challenges of emerging technology and quality of input and to establish dynamic system for reform of textile education. current custodian of NCUTE. 6.18 Although about Rs 50 lakhs is earmarked for the various activities of the NCUTE during the financial year 2011-12, yet steps are needed for full fledged operationalisation of this Centre. Currently, the Centre is being run in an ad hoc manner without a full time coordinator and support staff. The NCUTE will be fully functional by the end of current financial year. During the financial year 2011-12, the Centre is expected to conduct 4 seminars on Orientation to Textile Education Teachers on latest trends in the Textile Industries. It also plans to conduct 3 conferences for teachers / industrialists inviting papers on the theme of Developing Textile education in India. 6.19 The operations of NCUTE at SVPISTM during the first year of plan period is bound to be challenging. The Institute has drawn up strategy by creating a road map for implementation of NCUTE activities in a phased manner. The following are the few challenges; (a) Issues pertaining to quality of textile education include inter alia, lack of comprehensive evaluation system such as oral assessment for students, lack of publications pertaining to new researches, awareness on new textile testing/pilot manufacturing equipments, development of faculty and promoting competitive grants for academic achievements. Lack of common core curriculum and syllabi across the centres. Inadequacy of publications and source books, catering to Indian fashion & textile scenario. Need for relevant material in apparel fashion, costume designing, technical textiles, modern textile technology.

For initiating its work, the Institute in association with various organizations across India has conducted six one day seminars Designing and Developing Textile Education, at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, Kolkatta, Kannur and Baroda. Feedback was received from various stakeholders like industries, academicians and students. The data is being analysed and a report in this regard is being prepared.

Nodal Centre for Upgradation of Textile Education: 7.32 The NCUTE will focus on enhancing the overall quality of textile

education particularly through efforts towards improved academic evaluation system (such as oral assessment for students, industrial training / projects by students) , promotion of research publications awareness on new textile testing / pilot manufacturing equipments, initiation of new Published e-journals, organizing development programmes for faculty and industry personnel, and promoting competitive grants for academic achievements. It will also help in development of new curriculum and guidelines for UG and PG syllabus in the case of UG course, industry-needed subjects such as textile trade management, etc. For PG courses, research-based curriculum will be strengthened with the support of practical knowledge gained during industry project.. It will focus on upgradation of source books and publications in modern concepts. It will act as a consortium to develop textile learning software and its dissemination. It will become an Advanced Training Centre (ATC) like body for faculty development
