Nokia Siemens Networks SRAL XDTM Microwave Radio Low capacity digital radio system

Nokia Siemens Networks SRAL XDTM microwave radio fits any transmission requirement in mobile, fixed and private networks. SRAL XD supports all the capacities from 2x2 to 32x2 Mbit/s in a wide range of frequencies from 7 to 38 GHz, providing a reliable, easy-to-install and cost- effective access solution.

Nokia Siemens Networks SRAL XDTM is based on a split architecture: Indoor Unit (IDU) and Outdoor Unit (ODU) are connected by a single coaxial cable carrying traffic and DC power supply. IDU features traffic interfaces, service channels and switching functionalities, whereas ODU, which houses modem and radio units, transmits and receives radio signals. A complete radio platform for PDH applications SRAL XD has several indoor units to optimally support different site and operator requirements. Basic PDH applications are effectively addressed by SingleBoard IDU, which is a monolithic board providing up to 16xE1 traffic interfaces and a set of standard functionalities, whereas high-end applications are addressed by plug-in IDU, which is based on a modular architecture and features a wide set of traffic interfaces (E1, E3, Ethernet) and advanced functionalities. Nokia Siemens Networks all-outdoor solution, named Outdoor Access Unit, is available as well; it provides 1+0 configuration with traffic capacity up to 8xE1 and different power supply options. All IDU versions, being independent from modulation format and frequency bands, can manage either Normal Density or High Density ODU.

Customer benefits SRAL XD meets the increasing demand for digital transmission services. It provides operators with a cost-effective evolution in capacity and spectrum utilization. The software selectable modulation adds a new level of flexibility: while 4QAM is more robust, 16 TCM modulation halves the required frequency channel width, which can reduce the regulatory license fee, and takes advantage of the better availability of narrower channels. Automatic Transmitter Power Control has been implemented to increase the system performances, reducing power consumption and interference in crowded nodes.

Being modular, indoor unit can be extended and its configurations changed easily and cost-effectively. SRAL XD provides up to four Ethernet interfaces to meet demands arising from the growth of IP traffic in networks, thus allowing combined transport of TDM and IP traffic over a single radio channel. The equipment features automatic testing and commissioning facilities, which enable fast deployment and maintenance. Configuration settings and system upgrades can be remotely performed via software download, thus avoiding timeconsuming and costly site visits.

Data communication networks and management SRAL XD Indoor Unit offers a wide range of management and service interfaces, as well as enhanced routing functionalities: the combination of these new features dramatically improves its interworking capabilities to fit any DCN requirement. SRAL XD, as all Nokia Siemens Networks microwave product lines,

can be managed not only by the existing Microwave Nokia Siemens Networks NMS (NetViewer) but also by third party Management Systems: open interfaces are available to integrate SRAL XD and all the other Nokia Siemens Networks Microwave Radio transmission equipment in multivendor transmission networks.

Key features Several protection methods: hot stand-by, frequency diversity options and Ring protection up to 32xE1 (SNCP like) Low power consumption and high compactness (a single 44 mm high unit is able to implement any pro tected or unprotected terminal configuration) Frequency agile ODUs reduce RF spares and consequently OPEX expenditure Wide range of built-in supervision interfaces allow integration in any DCN, reduce usage of additional routers and eliminate the need of external adapters. Enhanced Ethernet functionalities (VLAN switching, QoS management (802.1P or ToS based)) to prioritize real time and data traffic Build-in Cross-Connect capability eliminate external cabling and improve network reliability
