ORGANIZATION PROFILE
The Naval Science and Technology Laboratory (NSTL) Visakhapatnam was established on 20th August 1969 under the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) as a NAVAL System Laboratory to understand research and development of Navy in the field of under water weapons, marine engineering systems etc. Dr V. Bujanga Rao currently heads this establishment. Making humble beginning in the fields of Design, Development and Testing of Underwater Weapons and Associated Systems Hydrodynamic Studies and Performance Evaluation of Marine Vehicles both Surface and Submerged and provide comprehensive Model Testing support ,Stealth technology for naval platforms,Design, development and evaluation leading to production of Torpedoes, Mines, Targets, Decoys, Fire Control Systems, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles(AUV) and induction into services and also to establish test facilities for the same,Establish world class Hydrodynamic Test Facilities for evolving design criteria through model tests for surface and sub-surface vehicles and torpedoes ,Develop structural design capabilities and materials for mitigation of radar, infrared, magnetic, acoustic and ELFE signatures leading to stealthier platforms NSTL has continued substantially to the technology growth in co-ordination with IISC, IITs, CSIR labs, education institutes and Design, Development and Testing of Underwater Weapons and Associated Systems,Hydrodynamic Studies and Performance Evaluation of Marine Vehicles both Surface and Submerged and provide comprehensive Model Testing support ,Stealth technology for naval platform. And at the same time it has helped the country in selfreliance and saved considerable amount of Foreign Exchange.
