Wanjeru Kingori English 1302-046 Corder 27 Febuary, 2011 American Stonehenge There is a huge influence of mystery in Georgia that surrounds the place known as American Stonehenge. Much like that of the English Stonehenge located in Wiltshire, there is a buzz in the air as to the origin of such a massive slab and what purpose it seeks to convey. American Stonehenge seeks to answer that very question through the use of influence on the society in which it exists, historical observation and the mystery it entails. In American Stonehenge, the first task given to the reader is to convey an opinion on the large slab. The author states that not everyone is comfortable with the notions of Stonehenge. In this, a platform is set in which one realizes that there are those who support the writings of apolocalitic instruction and those who are turned off by it. Some view it as a monument that must be protected, while others go so far as to vandalize it. It is in this comparison that the author indirectly asks one to formulate an opinion as to what the monument might or might not be. In the second part of American Stonehenge titled Story of the Guidestones, the author takes us on a journey to understand the history of American Stonehenge. The story starts off with a description of the man known to build the great monument. According to Randy Sullivan, the author of American Stonehenge, the man was an elegant gray haired gentlemen who traveled under the pretense Robert Christian. Mr. Christian had come to town dreaming bigger than was accustomed as was shown in the disbelief by Elebtrons Granite president. It is here that

Christians purpose for the slabs meaning are revealed when he states that he wishes for it to serve as a set of guides for apocalyptic times. It is in this look back that the reader is given an origin from which to start. As Sullivan continues, we are engaged by the construction of the slabs to the final touches of it; therefore giving us, the readers, a journey of sorts that we seem to have traveled with Mr. Christian The mystery of American Stonehenge is what probably holds the most weight to a reader after being taken on a trip through its influence to its historical origins. The very man known to build the monument has not one track record known to the worlds eyes. There is no way to know if he was mentally insane, or a genius. It is that very notion, along with the information written of the slabs that drives the mystery of Sullivans American Stonehenge. It is an unknown factor in contrast to the historical and influential factors fed to the reader. Sullivan builds on this with the very first sentence of his mystery section, when saying it was a draw for conspiracy theorists and investigators of all kinds. He continues by naming the titles of many books that authors have written in response to the monument and there take as to what all of it really means. It is a rather brilliant approach as Sullivan attempts to do what good authors do, by saving the best for last. American Stonehenge could only be understood by observing its influential, historical and unknown traits. Sullivan knows this in writing his piece and very much so puts forth an effort in doing just that. His analyzation of all three create a worthy work in which the reader is plunged into the world of American Stonehenge and is left wondering if there is more undiscovered or if such a work is really just a crock. Either way, Sullivan leaves it to the reader.
