INDICATION Prophylaxis against infections in abdominal,pelvic,orthopaedi c,cardiac,pulmonary,oesoph ageal and vascular surgery where there is increased risk from infections.

For the treatment of many different types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, skin infections, gonorrhea, and urinary tract infection
CONTRAINDICATION AND ADVERSE EFFECT Contraindication: Cefuroxime for Injection USP and Dextrose Injection USP is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics. Solutions containing dextrose may be contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to corn products.
NURSING RESPONSIBILITY Use IV route for severe/life threatening infections such as septicemia, or in poor-risk clients, especially inpresence of shock.

CLASSIFICATION Anti-pyretic
AND ADVERSE EFFECT Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to drug. Use cautiously in patients with long term alcohol use because therapeutic doses cause hepatotoxicity in these patients. Hematologic: hemolytic anemia, neutropenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia. Hepatic: Jaundice Metabolic: Hypoglycemia Skin: rash, urticaria.
NURSING RESPONSIBILITY Use liquid form for children and patients who have difficulty swallowing. In children, dont exceed five doses in 24 hours. Advise patient that drug is only for short term use and to consult the physician if giving to children for longer than 5 days or adults for longer than 10 days. Advise patient or caregiver that many over the counter products contain acetaminophen; be aware of this when calculating total daily dose. Warn patient that high doses or unsupervised long term use can cause liver damage.

Short term goal After an hour of nursing intervention, the patient temperature will subside from 38.9 C to 37.5C
Provide surface cooling such as TSB and removing of extra clothing Encourage increase fluid intake
After an hour of nursing intervention, patient condition improved with a temperature of 37.8C
To prevent dehydration because increase in body temperature causes fluid loss such as sweating To prevent further existing discomfort and promote rest
