Memory Verse Fun!

Memory Verse: Praise Him with the timbrel (tambourine) and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! (Psalm 150:4) Props: flute and player if possible Question: Say, "Has anyone ever taken music lessons or tried playing an instrument? Was it different or odd the first time you tried? Were you excited? Allow some kids to share. God desires us to praise Him with instruments and movement. Show a Bible. Say, This is Gods Word. We are going to read our memory verse from Gods Word. Model read the verse to the children. Read the verse together as a group. Ask for a volunteer to come up and read the verse to the group. Show them the verse written on the dry erase board in large font. Turn it around so that they cannot see it in advance before you show it. You may want to use PowerPoint if available. Point out the reference (Psalm 150:4) and tell them that Psalm is in the middle of the Bible. Then say 150 is the chapter or Psalm and 4 is the verse. Have them read the verse together with you three times.

Say, Look at the word dance To dance is to hop, skip, tap your feet, or waltz. When Jesus lives in our heart, He is happy if we desire to tap our feet for Him as we sing music. He also gave people the skills to make instruments so we can use in church for nice sounds. The word stringed is a thin cord made of metal that is used for violins and bass guitars from the string family. If you do not belong to God's family, you can today. If you do belong to God's family, you can thank Him this morning. GAME Musical Chairs Explain to the kids how to do this game. I will put on some music. As the music plays, you will walk around the chairs. When the music stops you must quickly find a chair (you will not need to take away any chairs for the way we play this game. Be sure you do have one chair short for the amount of children present). Pull out a name from a jar and that person must say the verse. If they say it correctly, they get a prize. If they cannot say it correctly, they must forfeit to someone who can say the verse correctly. Then, reward that person. The game continues with everyone playing the whole time. Repeat this whole process several times. Make sure someone does not purposely try NOT to get a seat in order to win again over and over. You can set a limit on times. Sing the Doxology one time. Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen! Sing a song using movement such as If Youre Happy and You Know It Stomp Your Feet. I have found that kids do very well with this old song even using it in the public schools. They love doing the motions!
