Objectives: By the end of a two-day professional development experience with Globally Connected Learning Consulting, participants will have learned about the urgency of globalizing the curriculum based on their new understanding of a global interconnected world, 21st century skills and literacies in education. Participants will have started building a personal learning network to become globally connected educators. Methodology Participants of the workshop will spend two days working collaboratively as a learning community. They will use web 2.0 tools as they upgrade lessons and units to globalize their teaching and classroom. Participants experience new forms of global learning first hand. The workshop is designed to practice strategies that the theory behind 21st century pedagogy preaches and get educators started on a path to global awareness, globally connected learning and an interconnected world. Introduction Go over workshops goals and agenda.


21st Century Skills, Literacies and Fluency Who are the illiterate of the 21st century? Participants explore the definition of being literate and discuss how students may be tech-savvy but lack digital literacies. We will take a closer look at Global and Network Literacy.

Designing a globalized lesson or unit This session will include working in small groups to identify and investigate characteristics of global awareness, teaching and learning. Groups work on units, lessons or projects to upgrade their curriculum.

Breakout Sessions- Customized sessions to address specific interests or tools.


The Globally Connected Teacher, Classroom and School - From global competencies, connections, collaborations and communication to tools and projects designed and created for you and your students to investigating the world, bring in perspective, knowledge, skill and disposition.

Culmination - Groups will upgrade a traditional lesson or unit to incorporate global competencies. Participants will present their global upgrades and post a link to lesson or unit online in order to amplify learning opportunities.

Personal Learning Network Your PLN is no longer tied to your zip code and you no longer work and learn in isolation. It is literally available 24/7, since the other side of the world is asleep at different times than you. You are able to connect to educators from around the world who are ready and willing to connect with you and your students and to teach beyond the walls of their own classroom. This session will walk participants through developing, maintaining and extending a personal learning network.
