Reflection The course Child Psychology requires us to make a presentation of each topic given. As a student, I also have the opportunity to present the topic which is Social Learning Theory and Humanistic Leaning Theory. Now I have to do a reflection based on my presentation. Thoroughly, it was a nervousness experience. This is because I am not familiar with such topic besides Behavior and Cognitive Theories. I was afraid that I did not supply sufficient input to my friends. It was also an interesting experience because this topic is totally different from the theories that I learnt. It focused more on the child rather than the teacher. Therefore in this reflection, I need to discuss my strength and my weaknesses and also how it contributes to my personal and professional growth as a teacher. My first strength is that I was able to deliver my presentation confidently. Although my heart was beating really fast during the presentation, I managed to overcome the fear throughout the whole presentation and stood in front of my friends and be relaxed. It was due to my preparation that I made few days before the presentation that made me through it. I have discussed it with the other few of my friends from other classes about the same topic and went through the reading materials that I have analyzed. In order to be confident, it actually requires a lot of effort rather than to think that it is a gift from God. I tried practicing it in front of the mirror and I have also consistently pre-presented it with some of my housemates few nights before the day of the presentation. This was also the feedback that I got from another few of my

friends days before the day of the presentation. He said the way I presented my topic was in a relax manner and because of that, they wanted to listen to what I say in a relax manner too and that made them understand what was the topic that I delivered. Secondly, I managed to relate the points with the suitable examples to give the explanation more clearly. Without this method, it is hard for someone to understand the topic that I present. I too actually had problems in understanding some of the point that I have prepared to be pointed out, but however, I managed to explain the topic to my friends by giving a clear and interesting analogy that relate them indirectly to the topic. As a result, some of my friends gave me positive feedbacks to the analogy that I have treated them with. I like one of my points which I have related it to RAM and a laptop. I related it with the point that people are born with inner nature. In order for me to find the suitable example, I have to put myself in the audiences shoes and to understand what example to be given that would really give significant meaning to them. My weaknesses that could be seen clearly are that I tend to mispronounce some of the words that come out of my mouth. There may be two biggest probabilities that this happens and the first reason is because I come from the East of Malaysia, Sabah and my slang is a little different from other people that I learn with and some of the words may not sound as it is to be. The second reason to this is that my words would come out tumbling out of my mouth as something that could not be understood when I speak too fast and words come out of my mouth before I even put them in the right sentences. This could also happen when I get too nervous at some point. However, in the end I manage to cover my mistakes by re-explaining it to my friends.

My last weakness is I was lack of understanding of some minor points in my presentation. They did not give major effect but it indirectly disrupted the flow of my presentation. The reason for this weakness is I think due to my learning style. Before I have to explain to my friends, I need to listen to others first. However, this course requires me to do a lot of reading before presenting. Thus, this limits my understanding to present my topic. Luckily, I managed to get some input from my other friends and it helps me a lot. This topic helps me not only for my personal but also for my professional growth. Personally, it helps me to know more about other theories that give significant impact to learning environment. Professionally, it helps me to understand that learning should be students centered and not teacher centered. In order to be a more efficient teacher, we need to consider the students feeling as well. That is to make the lesson meaningful for them. In conclusion, teaching is not only to deliver input, but also to understand the students as a whole person. This method cannot be taught overnight, it requires a lot of effort and experience. This is very important as the students future lies in our hands.
