Emanuel School - An Illustrated History

This book has been commissioned to celebrate125 years of Emanuel School in Wandsworth from 18832008. However, as any Emanuel pupil knows, the history of the School starts much earlier than 1883. In fact the Foundation dates back to 1594, and Lady Dacres Will, followed by the granting of our royal charter in 1601 by Queen Elizabeth 1. Historically speaking, Emanuel is without doubt one of Londons great schools. The text is enriched by detailed research and lively anecdotes and complemented by over 150 images in colour and black and white, which bring the Schools remarkable history to life. From only 20 pupils, and one Master, to over 700 pupils, 70 teachers, 40 support staff and one Head Master, Nigel Watson has successfully charted the development of the Foundation over Pupils enjoying break time in the school grounds the last 400 years as it has expanded and changed in ways which Lady Dacre could scarcely have imagined. Emanuel School An Illustrated History is an informative and authoritative account of the life of Emanuel School. This book will appeal to anyone with a direct connection to the school (pupils, parents, OEs, staff and Governors) but also to anyone who has an interest in the history of education in England from Elizabethan times to the present day.
