Nu Flow Prevents Escape at Lee County Jail

Nu Flow has successfully completed a pipe-lining project within a county jail while in full operation. The pipes were restored using Nu Flows patented Pull-in-Place technology thus preventing waste water from escaping from the sanitary system. In a facility where digging through floors or tearing open walls is clearly a no-go, Nu Flow delivered an effective solution. Project: Line corroded cast iron drainpipe while inmates remain present with no down-time to the drain system. Customer: Lee County Jail, Fort Myers, Florida, a near capacity jail in the most populous county in Southwest Florida. Site: Half of Lee County Jail, a medium / maximum security facility with over 2,000 inmate beds. System: Under-slab sanitary system consisting of 4, 6 and 8 diameter cast iron pipe extending from the main sewer line to the collection points for the sanitary stacks that consolidate the waste from the five-story facility. Situation: Old corroded pipes were causing backup problems and limited water flow. Digging through the foundation to replace the drain lines was not an option at Lee County Jail since it was at 94% capacity and officials could not move the inmates. Furthermore, the sanitary system had to remain in operation. Adding to the challenge, inmates were flushing anything from trash to ripped up mattresses down the system in their attempts to back up the plumbing. Solution: Nu Flows solution saved the customer from the need to securely relocate the prisoners and staff. Pipes were restored back to original size by removing all buildup and corrosion, all while avoiding the need to dig or damage the building. Nu Flow used their patented Pullin-Place technology to line the 4 to 8 pipe, including multiple 45 and 90 degree bends, branches in the system and transitions in pipe diameter. Nu Flows Pull-In-Place technology makes this possible to pipes as small as 1 in diameter.

By using trenchless technology, the once corroded pipes were cleaned out and restored back to original size, eliminating the backup problems. Our Pull-in-Place technology enabled us to line through multiple 90 degree bends in the pipe from a single pair of access points.

Nu Flows patented trenchless lining system involves double-entry access to pull an epoxy-saturated felt liner with an internal bladder inside the host pipe. The bladder is inflated for curing in place and is later removed, leaving in its place a smooth, jointless new pipe inside the host pipe. This lining method provides the ability to line multiple 45 and 90 degree angles, as well as the option of lining specific sections of pipe without lining the entire length.
