Nu Flow Pipe Retrofit Brings Littlefield Fountain Back to Life

Nu Flow successfully completed a pipe-retrofitting project at the University of Texas at Austin and brought their monumental fountain back to life. The system was rehabilitated with the patented Nu Flow process, eliminating corrosion and leaks. Project: Retrofit the failing 5" to 10" water supply system that was experiencing failure due to the effects of water corrosion. Customer: The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas, a major research university established in 1883 that is home to more than 50,000 students, 2,900 faculty and 21,000 staff members. Site: Littlefield Fountain, a monument by Italian-born sculptor Pompeo Coppini, located on the main campus of The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. System: 200 feet of 10" return line, 120 feet of 6" drain line and 32 feet of 5" cast iron feed line located underneath the fountain and surrounding landscaping. Situation: The historic fountains failing water supply system pumped three thousand gallons of water every minute, but corrosion and leaks in the system eventually forced it to be shut down. The water was discolored due to the corrosion inside the pipe which was also causing a loss of water into the surrounding area. Solution: Nu Flow was able to retrofit the system with our long-term, affordable and non-invasive pipe-lining solution. Nu Flow rehabilitated the supply system without disruption to the beautiful fountain and surrounding area in a timely fashion.

Once access points were created and the pipes were cleared with a pipe jetter, the patented Nu Flow process was used to rehabilitate the system. With bends and limited access, our technicians lined the 10" pipes in 30-foot sections and the 6" pipe with a one hundred foot liner and three smaller runs. After the liner cured, the entire system was pressure tested by The University of Texas at Austins Engineers and received excellent results.
