Nu Flow Brings Pipe Retrofit to Great Heights

Nu Flow successfully completed a pipe-retrofitting project at San Diegos tallest building without interfering with the buildings normal operations. The pipe system was rehabilitated with the patented Nu Flow process by pulling a seamless structural liner into place, avoiding costly and disruptive repairs. Project: Rehabilitate failing vent line using Nu Flows Pull-inPlace structural liner. Customer: Irvine Company, a nearly 150-year-old, privately held, best-of-class real estate investment company with operations throughout California. Site: One America Plaza, one of San Diegos most prestigious buildings located steps from the waterfront. The 34-story, 623,000 square foot building is San Diegos tallest building. System: Three separate segments of 19-year-old 6" cast iron vent line located behind finished tenant spaces and walls. Situation: The system was experiencing failure in the vent system due to the accumulation of corrosion and scale flakes in the pipes. Two obstructions were 3 stories in height and consisted of impacted cast iron scale and debris. With 75 percent of the pipe blocked, the problem prevented sewer gas (methane) from properly venting up and out through the vent system. Instead, it was traveling through the sanitary wet drain pipes and corroding them at an accelerated rate. In order to access and replace the failing pipe, the customer would have had to cut open the walls and complete renovations after the repairs. Solution: Nu Flow cleared and retrofitted the system in place with our long-term, affordable and noninvasive pipelining solution. The work was performed during off hours to avoid disruption to tenants. Nu Flow was able to clear the 3-story obstructions and remove the debris without causing destruction to the building.

Once cleared, multiple liners were installed over the areas of past blockages so there would no longer be cast iron exposed to the inside of the pipe. This solution saved the customer from significant repair costs and restored the vent system to proper operations while protecting it from similar problems in the future.
