Objetivos da unidade curricular e competências a desenvolver:

 Possibilitar os formandos a comunicar em inglês num contexto de Enfermagem

 Facilitar o uso e compreensão de terminologia de Enfermagem numa língua estrangeira
 Aumentar os conhecimentos de assuntos relacionados com a comunicação entre doentes e
auxiliares de saúde
 Preparar os formandos para as realidades de trabalhar no estrangeiro
 Providenciar os meios com os quais os formandos podem se relacionar com doentes da língua
mãe inglesa
 Preparar os alunos para entenderem, traduzirem e compreenderem artigos de natureza técnica e
científica no que concerne a sua área de estudo.
 Rever conhecimentos já existentes da língua

Licenciatura em Enfermagem, sendo a sua plenitude alcançada com o estágio profissionalizante.

Objectives of the curricular unit and competences to be developed:

 Enable participants to communicate in English within a nursing environment

 Facilitate the use and understanding of nursing terminology in the foreign language
 Raise awareness of issues related to intercommunication between patients and caregivers
 Prepare students for realities of working in health care abroad
 Provide the means with which participants can relate to English speaking patients
 Prepare students to be able to fully understand technical and scientific articles concerning
nursing.
 Review prior knowledge of the language

The competencies defined by the Ordem dos Enfermeiros (OE) are acquired throughout the nursing
graduation, and reached its fullness with the last clinical practice (estágio profissionalizante).
The competencies must be developed according to the capacity, capability and expected development of
the student and based on the objectives of the graduation.

- Vocabulário técnico essencial para a prática clínica na área de enfermagem e para a compreensão de
artigos técnicos e científicos relacionados com a área de formação.

2. O processo de admissão de um paciente. Registos de enfermagem.
3. A dor: Localização e descrição; Avaliação; Interação com paciente; Alívio.
4. Sintomas e lesões. Registos de enfermagem. Interação com o paciente.
5. Monitorização do paciente. Estatísticas e sinais vitais. Leitura de gráficos, estatísticas e medidas.
6. A ferida. Descrever feridas. Tratar feridas. Interação com o paciente.

Fundamentação:
No que concerne às aulas teóricas, será elaborada uma avaliação diagnóstica. Relativamente às aulas
teórico-práticas, os alunos serão divididos em grupos heterogéneos com vários níveis de Inglês, numa
lógica de interajuda e complementaridade.

Substantiation:
As for the theoretical lessons, students work in groups according to their level of English, in a way which
maximizes their potential and enhances their knowledge of the language. Regarding the theoretical and
practical lessons, the students are divided into smaller groups (ideally more heterogeneous in what
concerns the level of English), and they work on scientific articles, that are chosen in an interdisciplinary
perspective.
